...titled article, ‘The two faces of power,’ noted that 288 the ‘first face’ of power, the authority to choose between alternatives, may be less important than the ‘second face’ of power, the ability to control what alternatives are under discussion in the first place. Whereas Dahl and others saw this as a relatively open process, where any social group with a legitimate problem that could potentially be converted into votes in an election could gain access to the political agenda, others saw the process in a decidedly more negative light. Following Bachrach and Baratz, many scholars attempted to study not just governmental decision making, as the pluralists had done, but also nondecisions, or agenda control, as well. For example, Matthew Crenson (1971) noted that air pollution was rarely discussed in public or government in one city despite a very serious pollution problem. In another similar city with much less pollution, however, public and governmental leaders discussed it often and took steps to combat it. The reason behind the difference in the behavior between the two cities appeared to be the ability of powerful economic interests to control the agenda. John Gaventa (1980) followed this study with an analysis of poverty-stricken Appalachian towns and the ‘quiescence’ characterizing the demobilized populations there. These agenda theorists argued that power was most evident when objective conditions of suffering were not the subject of debate. Bachrach and Baratz (1962),......

...Crucibles case, people were being accused of being witches and in the red scare act thing they were being accused of being communist. It is also similar because if you did not confess to being a “witch” or a “communist”, then they would take away your property and kill you. The difference between them that i noticed through the play was that there was an affair involved well at least the ages were different but that’s what i noticed. An example of this is that when somebody didn’t confess, they did die by getting hung. I’m pretty sure that during the red scare they were hung also. The last thing that i remember is that towards the end of the Crucible, Giles Corey was the one that said “ more weight” when they were pressing stones were stacked on him so i think there was somebody that did that too. Today, McCarthyism i used after 9/11 because after the planes hit the twin towers, muslims are now blamed for the entire problem when most of them more in likely wasn’t even apart of it or just didn’t care in which is just terrible to my opinion. i mostly used google just typed in what the question was then used i think just the first thing on the list well i never used wikipedia...

...Afternoon, you see a young lady walk up a flight of stairs to unlock a door, she drops the key and it falls down the stairs where she has to go back down and retrieve it. Without this key she cannot enter her house, but we see later that a man has no problem with the key in the same door. What if the key is not really a key? What if the key is the key to happiness? What if happiness isn’t what we think it is? What if it’s just an illusion of what makes us fall down the stairs. It’s never set in stone how our lives will end up. You have to fight through the obstacles in your way if you want to be happy in life. The same is true in the Meshes in the Afternoon. We see the lady running up and down stairs. I believe this is how her life has been. She has been in an up and down struggle with life. There have been hazards on her path to happiness; this is why we see her hesitate when we see the knife on the stairs. This is the same in life today. It’s never easy, but we keep pushing, we keep running up those stairs. We also see the lady in the film multiple times with a key. This key also has transformed into a knife. To me, in correlation to the stairs, the key serves the purpose of happiness. Even though the key can take her on the path of happiness, it’s what caused her suicide. When she dropped the key maybe this was a sign that she shouldn’t have gone inside. The key was a sign trying to save her life. When she preceded inside that was her unhappiness taking over. That’s......

...org/poverty/untold-story-chinas-rural-urban-migration/ * About 362 million Chinese live on less than $2/day. With most of these poor living in rural areas, the need for income drives them to areas with a promise of new income. * Rural Chinese live a mainly agrarian lifestyle, farming the land and raising livestock. With access to clean water limited, lack of modern equipment and the constant threat of extreme drought, each generation becomes less entrenched in this lifestyle. They look to find work that seems more productive. * http://repository.upenn.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1005&context=elmm * Hukou: the Chinese government has relaxed its control over hukou and local governments now have greater control over the quotas and the criteria under which individuals can shift their hukou * Rural labor surplus: Since the economic reform in 1978, agricultural decollectivization and the implementation of a form of family farming promoted greater efficiency in agriculture (Fang et al. 2009). This shift created a large surplus rural labor force, many of whom migrated. In the ensuing years, persistent urban-rural income gaps continued to create strong incentives for rural-urban migration (Akay et al. 2011; Li 1996; Liang and White 1996; Solinger 1999). Together, these factors have created strong economic incentives for migration in the reform era dating from the 1980s * (http://www.gtap.agecon.purdue.edu/resources/download/4491.pdf) Rural labor......

If this is making use of this energy, would be able to power many electronic devices. A dynamo or an alternator can be used for harvesting the energy generated by a cycle rider while riding. We can charge mobile phones or a small lighting device with the power. Not only in bicycle but also in alternator bikes, cars and exercise bikes use this principle. Bicycle generators are mini-power stations, that allow you to convert human effort into electricity. They have been around since at least the early 1900s, when they used during WWI to power field radio equipment. A bicycle generator can be a very efficient, inexpensive and easy to construct. ...* This is pretty cool that I can upload stuff! So this now has to be 250 words huh… On the Wiki * LOS ANGELES -- Antawn Jamison is joining up with Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash to chase a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. * Jamison will sign a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum with the Lakers, a league source told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Dave McMenamin. * * Jamison * The 36-year-old forward will bolster the Lakers' bench with scoring and veteran leadership while pursuing the first championship ring in a career largely spent as the best player on bad teams. * He won't have that problem with the Lakers, who will have Bryant and newcomer Nash in their backcourt flanked by two elite 7-footers -- although their identities will depend on whether their apparent efforts to land Dwight Howard are successful. Jamison also will be reunited with coach Mike Brown, who was in charge of the Cavaliers when Jamison was traded to Cleveland during the 2009-10 season. * Jamison had several suitors for his services, including his hometown Charlotte Bobcats, the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors, his employer for his first five NBA seasons. For a player who has never advanced past the second round of the playoffs in 14 NBA seasons, the Lakers' chance to contend apparently was too enticing to Jamison. * The Lakers are the fifth NBA team for Jamison, who averaged 17.2 points for an awful Cavs team last season despite shooting a career-low 40.3......
