I am writing this article specifically for those of you whom are interested to get involved and carryout your civic obligations, to make your community, city, state and country, a better place to live, for yourself, your family and loved ones. Please understand that the first rule of becoming a true and effective political, social justice activist is to do it for yourself, your family and loved ones, thinking globally, but acting locally, with NO expectations of receiving any credits, rewards, or recognitions of any kind, with utter humility. - Your unmatched and gratifying reward will be the smiling faces of healthy and happy children, knowing in your heart that your efforts played a role in making that happen. By many estimates in the United States there are close to 1 million political and social justice activists, which means only 1 million people are aware of what is really going on in this country. That would leave out 349 million people whom are at the mercy of the nation-less corporate media, which http://www.venusproject.org/volunteer/what-can-i-do-to-help-my-country.html 1/5

This Is What I Should Do to Improve My Performance

...THIS IS WHAT I SHOULD DO TO IMPROVE MY PERFORMANCE PREPARE BEFORE EVERY SIGNIFICANT EVENT. The best way to improve the performance is by good preparation. For example, if we are going to present a paper or to take an exam our performance mainly lies on how much we prepare on it. By good preparation we will get an idea what we are doing. Sometime even though we are brilliant if we didn’t prepare the result will be bad. A good performance lies on hardworking and how much time we take to prepare for it. For example, if we ask someone who failed or performed low they might have only one answer “I didn’t prepare well”. We must have a good idea what we are going to do. HAVE GOOD CONTROL OVER THE EMOTIONS AND MOODS. Emotions and moods have a good control over the performance. If we are too much emotional it will affect our performance. The emotions are more action oriented and the moods are less action oriented. Research shows that emotions are critical to rational thinking. For example, if we are excited or happy it will have a high positive affect on the performance and if we are sad or nervous it will affect our performance very badly. I still remember the first paper presentation of my life. I felt nervous to speak in front of the audience and it affected my performance. We must have good control over the emotions and moods so that we can improve the performance. HAVE ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF REST The adequate amount of rest is a key factor in performance. We must have......

What Repression Can Do to a Woman

...What Repression Can Do to a Woman Since the beginning of time women have been treated as second class citizens. Women were repressed and were forced to face many problems. At that time women were mainly controlled by their husbands and could not freely do things without the consent of their husband. This paper shows how this is evident in the "Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin and "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner. In both stories, the use of literary elements such as foreshadowing, symbolism, and significant meaning of the titles are essential in bringing the reader to an unexpected and ironic conclusion. The similarities begin with both of the authors being raised in the south. We can presume that is one way they could described the situations that they faced so accurately; situations like political and social presumptions problems especially for women at that time. Chopin writes how “women are to be seen and not heard”. That was the standard for women in those days. Women had no basic rights like voting and generally lived under their husband’s rule. Chopin's stories seemed very modern even though it was written over 120 years ago. Chopin stretched boundaries with her writing. The late eighteen hundreds were a rough time for women and there were not the options like divorce that is available now. Through Mrs. Mallard, we could see the social repression that women felt at that time. Therefore, in this story there is so much domination, Chopin said "They......

What We Can Do More Than Service

...Cancan Li Professor Bald English 121 MA 2 What We Can Do More Than Service Cooperating with different people including college student volunteers and local neighbors living in the Capital Hill community, Seattle, I volunteered at Central Lutheran Church Community Lunch Program, which provides free meals three times a weak to nearby low-income and homeless people. Every early Tuesday morning, I worked to prepare food and set dining room before our guests’ coming. Many homeless people slept overnight near the church’s entrance and gathered in front of the transparent door at ten o’clock. Being locked out before the lunch was served, they spent more than two hours lying on the door and kept staring at people inside who were busy in the kitchen. Compared to people outside, each volunteer in that kitchen was under massive pressure because of not only the heavy work but also their stinging gaze on back. That is the first time I realized the homeless people’s participation in service work was necessary and inevitable for a successful and effective community service program. Most social programs owned by business or government hire trained faculties, admit part-time volunteers and very limited service beneficiaries, homeless people in this case, to keep service running. Service receivers are traditionally defined by incapacity of serving like patients on operating tables who do not probably take scalpels to open their own chests. This misconception......

“Am I a Product of My Past or Do I Have a Choice in What I Do? Why Do I Do What I Do?”

...I believe that our environment can inhibit our options, but the choices we make can enhance our experience within the environment we have been placed in. In my stance on the question at hand I would like to present my take on Skinner’s ideas that, “It is the environment which is responsible for objectionable behavior, and it is the environment, not some attribute of the individual, which must be changed.” and, “A person does not act upon the world, the world acts upon him.” I understand Skinner’s view point, however, I differ from his ideas in three ways: first, we are products of the choices we have made in the past; secondly, our physical environment can be changed by us; and third, our mental environment is influenced by authorities, but not controlled. In the following paragraphs I will use observational learning, instinctive drift, and behavior modification to explain each of my personal views pertaining to the question, “Why do I do what I do?” I have lived in Southwest Kansas my entire life because my parents chose to start their lives here; therefore I am a product of the choice my parents made for me seventeen years ago pertaining to where I live. However, like any environment there are ecological factors to consider such as weather, wildlife, and resources. For example, let’s say I had only previously encountered garter snakes and bullsnakes and had had positive experiences with both, and my parents had never told me to fear snakes. Then one day I encounter...

Trade Is the Only Way a Country Can Develop. to What Extent Do You Agree with This Statement

...Trade is the only way a country can develop. To what extent do you agree with this statement? Trade involves the transfer of the ownership of goods or services from one person or entity to another in exchange for other goods or services or for money. Trade is seen by many as a way to promote economic and development, with the future aim of increasing the Human Development Index (HDI- composite statistic of life expectancy, education, and income, indices used to rank countries into four tiers of human development) and thus moving further along the development continuum. With expert leg-growth has been the main approach to development, trade may not be the only panacea for development. Other approaches to development such as aid and political avenues also have to be explored. However, the main process to development is industrialisation (manufactured goods create more income than raw materials/primary products) with this we see countries moving through the Clark Fisher model; moving from primary through to tertiary sectors. This increased revenue would promote wealth and improving living standards. In turn, this would make way for the 'trickling down' effect, the increased wealth means surplus money would be available for new industry to be established. Furthermore, this surplus of money may be reinvested into vital infrastructure and increasing the indices needed to value the HDI. Exploring and analysing approaches to development will form the basis of my......

What Should I Do?

...What Should I Do? First off I would begin to reassure Kim that I understand that she has never been through a planning process before, so there’s no need for her to panic. I would then explain to her that the departmental plan is merely a written explanation on how to accomplish and to achieve the objectives discussed and agreed upon in last month’s meeting. I would then begin to tell her to utilize and incorporate her expertise of her 7 years as a sales specialist. She should deal directly with the warehouse clerks and get a printout of what time of the month or year sales is at its peak. I would first suggest that she juts down the specifics on what takes place daily in her department, and also I would suggest that other associates in that department compile the same thing and submit them to Kim. That way she will get the gist of what everyone in her department does and everyone would then be in agreement with that objective. Kim should also seek the previous manager for advice and expert advice if at all possible. I think that Kim’s initial reaction to the planning process is a usual one. Everyone if put into a new position would get cold feet. Even if you have had experience in and with a company for years, your new roll and what is expected in a promotion is new. No one knows what to expect until trained and it is okay to ask questions. Until she becomes familiar with what is expected of her, any new task will seem overwhelming, until she gets the hang of it....

Global Warming and What You Can Do to Help

...We hear the term “greenhouse gas” a lot—but what is it? Humans add various gases to the earth’s atmosphere every day; these gases (known as “greenhouse gases”) consist primarily of carbon dioxide, ozone, chlorofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide, and methane, and tend to warm the earth. Trees help counter greenhouse gas production during photosynthesis, by taking in carbon dioxide as waste material and producing oxygen, which of course we all need to survive. Scientists predict that the daily addition of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, combined with daily removal of large portions of the world’s forests, will raise the earth’s average temperature by several degrees in the next century. This in turn will raise the level of the sea and potentially create significant changes in weather patterns on a global scale. As we move into the future, many climatologists expect that most of the United States will warm. What we do not know yet is how to scientifically predict which parts of the nation will become wetter or drier. We do know there is likely to be an overall trend toward increased precipitation and evaporation, and more intense weather systems, in the form of violent rainstorms, blizzards and sun-baked, drier soils. The Facts—What Do We Already Know About Changing Global Conditions (Global Warming)? Global temperatures are rising. Observations collected over the last century suggest that the average land surface temperature has risen 0.45-0.6°C (0.8-1.0°F) in the last...

Five Little Things We Can Do for My Country

...Things We Can Do for My Country 5 Little Things WE Can Do to Help our Country I believe that in order to help our country be a better place to live in, it has to start in helping ourselves to be better individuals first. We have to keep in mind at all times that everything we do, even the smallest ones has something to do with our country, so we might act responsibly as well. Here are the 5 little things we may not be aware of but can be a great help: 1.Obey your parents A good community starts in a good family. The way we are at home reflects to what we are in a bigger environment. Before we become good followers in the laws, we are followers at home first. We become better if we always obey our parents. Our parents only want us to be successful in the future and so, listening to them will help us achieve our goals.Their words are always the best guide for us to be molded into a responsible, caring citizen. 2.Throw your garbage properly. It’s just a matter of discipline. Let’s us help promote the cleanliness of our society, even nobody’s looking. We have to respect our country before anybody else does. 3.Treat everyone like a brother or sister of your own. We have to treat our co-Filipinos the way we treat our own siblings. Let’s avoid getting a crab-mentality and be happy for the achievements of others instead of pulling them down. Let them be our inspiration to help ourselves rise. Let’s always help, forgive and love each other. 4.Do not lose......
