Vacations in the Sun

The city of Miami is increasingly highlighted year after year with their lavish hotels and fancy social scene. The term vacation is very custom to South Florida being that it is family vacation hotspot for every season besides the blistering heat of the summer. South Florida is loaded with many popular cities that attract tourism for their own personal reasons. Each area has its own spin on the beautiful physical features that Florida has to offer. Although the state of Florida as a whole is located in the southern region of the US it is not entirely warm all year around. With that being said the primary focus of vacation destinations fall in South Florida more specifically on the eastern coast. Significant amounts of people that are able to afford a privilege like this obtain homes in both the North East and in South Florida. These snowbirds spend their winters in their Florida homes and summers up North. The average age of a snowbird is roughly the age of retirement or around sixty-five years old. For the remaining population throughout this world who do not have homes in Miami, for example, need a place to stay upon their arrival. These vacations are most often intended for leisure and an escape from a family or individual’s everyday life. Luckily, vacationers have breathtaking choices of where to unwind and forget about whatever thoughts cause them uneasiness. Collins Avenue is located in South Beach, Miami and is flooded with world-class hotels that tend to each and every one of the guests needs. The placement of Collins allows the gorgeous strip of hotels to be located directly on the beach providing outrageous views. Many guestrooms and suites have spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the twinkling necklace of lights that reveals Miami Beach at night. Rooms and suites are mostly fully equipped with high definition flat screen TVs, advanced sound systems, as well as top of the line computers either in each room or just down the hall. The ultra-luxurious amenities ultimately attempt to provide a paradise for their guests that cannot be found anywhere else. Working people seek for leisure to balance the difficulties in their everyday lives. In the 1940’s a French philosopher wrote an essay in order to better help understand that relationship between one’s work, leisure, and private life. Lefebvre was a French sociologist, intellectual and philosopher who was generally considered a Neo-Marxist. He was a respected professor and a credited author. Lefebvre studied at the University of Paris and graduated in 1920. Shortly after, he was working with Paul Nizan, Norbert Guterman, Georges Friedmann, Georges Politzer and Pierre Morhange in the Philosophies group seeking a “philosophical revolution”. Lefebvre joined the French Communist Party in 1928 and later published attacks on opponents of its line such as Nizan. His studies are reflected in this essay by his ability to go in such detail to the entire human population and analyzing their perception of work and leisure. Lefebvre wrote an essay that targets the relations between work, leisure, and private life with regards to an individual’s life. He believes that a person’s choice of leisure was subjective upon their work and is normally different from one another. The word leisure is defined as being able to shut the stressful part of one’s mind off temporarily and strictly take part in enjoyable activities. It is clear that people must work but Lefebvre believes that the way modern work is performed is detrimental to the individual performing it. The essay encapsulates the idea of individuality and therefore the lack of that is created by work. Lefebvre states that work alienates humans from themselves and does not allow personal development. Although they are still serving society and developing something, they are stunting the intellectual growth of their minds. The generic nature of most positions in the work world prevents workers to express themselves as well as diminishing the control of their decisions. Leisure is intended to be the opposite of work but many common forms of leisure can be criticized and questioned if they really are in fact defined as leisure. To an office working man or woman the thought of a week in a hotel in South Beach could never be questioned as not being a week of leisure. Breaking the chains of their cubicles and freely walking down the beach with sand sifting through their toes while the waves break on their ankles is one of the best gift they could ask for. Looking from the outside there is no chance that one of these hotels couldn’t not only be leisure but one of the best leisure’s possible. However, with his intelligence and experience Lefebvre would find aspects of the leisure’s provided by a hotel on Collins to critique. World wide the beach is heavily desired as somewhere to get away but according to Lefebvre tanning does not seem to qualify as a defined leisure because of the isolation involved and overall damage it can cause. Vacationers seek out hotels in warm areas for the advantage of having a beach and most people enjoy the beach to get suntan and lay out for hours. At the majority of hotels it is second nature to walk to the beach and automatically tell the chair attendant how many chairs are needed and then point out where while he sets them up with towels and thankfully takes a tip. Once comfortable the vacationer will shut their eyes for hours on end silently soaking up the sun. Ironically when people lay out there is little conversation that takes place. It is odd that in an attempt to run away from alienation in the workforce vacationers find leisure in lying by themselves that is just as much alienation as working is. The sun does have some good vitamins but is also quite dangerous to human skin. Diseases develop from the radiation that can lead to sicknesses as terrible as cancer. Although it happens over time the suns negative effects are in fact way worse than the temporary darker skin it provides. Miami is very close to the equator and has very direct sunlight making the radiation that much stronger. Work and leisure at first appear to be two very different words but especially when analyzed through the lens of Lefebvre’s beliefs it is clear that they are not so easy to differentiate. Instead it is more beneficial to study the relations between the two and find a balance that makes every day life enjoyable yet productive while incorporating a mix of work and leisure. Lefebvre examines leisure very closely but does provide valid arguments about the truth of leisure and what is actually pure leisure.…...

The Sun

...“SUN” The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is almost perfectly spherical and consists of hot plasma interwoven with magnetic fields. The Sun is a G-type main-sequence star comprising about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System. The Sun consists of plasma and is not solid. It rotates faster at its equator than at its poles. This behavior is known as differential rotation, and is caused by convection in the Sun and the movement of mass. The Sun is a Population I or heavy element-rich star.  The formation of the Sun may have been triggered by shockwaves from one or more supernovas. The Sun does not have a definite boundary as rocky planets do. Through most of the Sun's life, energy is produced by nuclear fusion through a series of steps called the proton–proton chain. This process converts hydrogen into helium. The Sun is a magnetically active star that supports a strong, changing magnetic field that varies year to year and reverses direction about every eleven years around solar maximum. The Sun's magnetic field leads to many effects that are called solar activity which carries material through the Solar System. Solar activity changes the structure of Earth's outer atmosphere. All matter in the Sun is in the form of gas and plasma because of its high temperatures. This makes it possible for the Sun to rotate faster at its equator than it does at higher latitudes. The Sun was formed about 4.57 billion years ago from the......

...The shadow of the palm trees reflecting on the soft sand at the beach side, while the waves of the beach are hitting the ground, is what makes this place so special. Just to imagine sitting at the beach while the palm trees are creating a shadow on my skin, and at the same time their branches are waving back and forth to provide a clear and clean breeze, is so relaxing. Therefore, I chose this State for my favorite vacation place. This alone that the nickname of the State is Sunshine State (en.wikipedia.org) shows a lot because that is what it is all about, a place to recognize the sun and its amazing features warming up the world to the joy of its people, making the climate so pleasant and relaxing. In fact, throughout the winter season, the climate is never below 60 degree and frost has never been reported there (www.statesymbolsusa.org). Furthermore, whenever I was there the sun always shone brightly comforting me with his strong sun rays, making it a place to escape from the cold New York during the freezing winter days. While strolling down the long and endless boardwalk, I got so inspired by its breathtaking sceneries. Starting from the beautiful beach view continuing to the white sand covered shore on one side, and on the other side many sky-high luxurious hotels each one with its amazing spa areas including incredible outdoor saunas and heated pools. Even after sunset the area does not lose its nice view since the colorful eye-catching lights take over by......

...Tarsha Strong English 1101/Mrs.Staton Reflective Essay 29 June 2013 A Memorable Bahamas Vacation Its 10:15 am, we are getting ready to board the ship. I am relieved to be standing after sitting in an RV for 10 hours while riding from Georgia to Florida. My aunts, cousins, and my mom are smiling and hugging each other because they are happy to see my family that we have not seen in awhile. We wave goodbye to my uncles as they drive off. As I walk toward the ship I become anxious and excited. I’m holding my luggage and smiling at the attendant. I look at my mom and say, “I can’t believe we are headed to the Bahamas.” We are standing in a long line waiting to check in our entire luggage. The security officers are making sure we don’t have things that are not allowed. Now that we are finished, my mom and I head to our room. We take the elevator to the third floor where our room is located. I open the door to our room and I see two twin beds with cute little animals on them made with towels. My mom has an alligator and I have an elephant. I take a picture and smile because I think this is so cool. Now its time for me to shower, so I sit my luggage on the bed, take out a nice sun dress, and head for the shower. First we head to the top floor of the ship. Everyone must do a safety drill. The captain comes on over a loud speaker and welcomes everyone to the cruise. Then he begins the speech of all the safety rules. The staff members are demonstrating how to use the......

Indeed, it was a perfect vacation. It happened on the month of December year 2011. I was with my family and some family friends. In this tropical country we decided to go to Boracay—an Island cultured by different races. Back at 1950's I heard this place was a virgin paradise and only the natives was to benefit its beauty. At this time this place is the Philippines' most well known tourist attraction. Figure 1: Boracay Island (Copyright of TravellingInspiration) Geography When we got there as like any other places where you can take your vacation, we saw large hotels but around them were vegetation. It is like a hybrid of establishments and trees. It was beautiful to see. There is a region where I saw a mountain where hotels were at the slope of the hill. I came there at one of the Inns and the view outside was outstanding. I said to myself, "So this is how it feels like if you live at the edge of the cliff." It was beautiful! "Boracay Island’s shape is somewhat similar to a butterfly (See Figure 1 on page 3), which is appropriate for its beauty. In......

Vacation

...Sample Essay – My Summer Vacation I had a fantastic summer vacation! My family and I spent a lot of time at the beach. We also went on a trip to Disney World. We ended our summer by traveling to southern California for a soccer tournament. It was nice to be able to spend so much time with my family this summer. In the beginning of the summer, I went to the beach with my kids at least once a week. We were so lucky because every time we were at the beach I saw the dolphins splashing playfully in the surf. We would usually arrive around 12:00, when the sand was as hot as coals in a barbecue. Sometimes we would stay until 7:00 in the evening. At the end of the day I loved to watch the flaming red ball creep slowly down into the shimmering ocean. Going to the beach is my favorite thing to do in the summer. Towards the middle of my summer vacation, my whole family and I flew to Florida to visit Disney World. We had never been before, and I could not believe how big and beautiful the Disney property was. It was like being in the center of a rainbow. Everywhere you looked, there was loads of color. The weather was hot and humid. We were soaked with sweat the entire time, but we were able to refresh ourselves in the beach-like pool. We stayed at a hotel called The Beach Club, and the pool there actually had sand at the bottom of it. It was fun to travel all the way to Florida. As my vacation was coming to an end, we made a trip to Huntington Beach for my......

Vacations

...Vacations Doris A. Davis Vacations Cruises appeal to many travelers because they are considered all-inclusive vacations. Pay one price and receive accommodations, meals, entertainment, and transportation between island and port destinations. But once onboard, many cruisers find themselves shelling out hundreds of additional dollars for shore excursions, alcoholic beverages, and gratuities. What happened to their supposedly all-inclusive vacation? Many land-based resorts also refer to themselves as all-inclusive, yet [the properties offer a different set of included amenities. As I look at the picture my mind can imagine exactly what my experience would be. So what does it really mean to be all-inclusive? I have compared the pictures of all-inclusive resort and cruises at sea I believe all-inclusive land resort vacations are the best. All-inclusive cruises and resorts tend to include different amenities in the base price. Book a mainstream cruise, and you'll receive accommodations, all meals and snacks, certain beverages at meal times, use of the ship's facilities (such as the pool, kids club, and fitness center), onboard activities and entertainment, and transportation between ports-of-call. You will have to pay extra for soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, tips for a waiter, spa treatments, shore excursions, airfare, and airport transfers. Luxury liners may include tips for the waiter and alcohol in their base price. On the other hand, book an all-inclusive resort......

A vacation can be divided into three groups such as: great scenery, good food, and great weather. For most people, the hardest part about a vacation is figuring out where to go. Majority of the process of finding the spot is the scenery. There are many islands that have amazing views, and also huge cities that have city views; it's entirely up to you and your preferences as to where to go. Niagra falls, for example, is an amazing place to visit. The scenery is breathttaking, everyone consider the visit at least once in their life time. Summer Vacation

...My Ideal Summer Vacation A warm and sunny afternoon last day, I was in a deep thought. I was thinking, if I would be given a chance to have a summer vacation without worrying about the expenses, maybe it could be my ideal one. This thought triggered me to ask myself, “What would be my ideal summer vacation looks like?” To start my visualization, I would like to spend it in a place afar from the noisy streets of the city. A place where the only sounds I can hear are the chirping of the birds, the waves crashing on the shore and the laughter of my family. In that place, the trees are dancing gracefully and flowers are waving gently with the wind. In the distance, the shore is filled with sand so white, crystal clear water and with porpoises on the sea side. On the top of the hill resides our home, a small bungalow type but filled with so much contentment and joy. Inside of it are simple things to suffice our needs. Upon entering the entrance door, you will see the clean and tidy living room, with a window on the right that offers a beautiful sight of the blue ocean. Beside our home, there stood a tall and old narra tree that gives us shade during the day. Flowers of different kinds and varieties grows around the yard abundantly. Then, I can see the endless sky above with shiny shimmering stars blinking at night and in the water, it seems the unreachable stars are within my grasp. In a distance, I can see the fire keeps burning from the bonfire we have made, and beside it,...

Summer Vacation

...My favorite summer vacation was when my Father took me to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. What made it even more memorable was the fact that it was my very first time on an airplane. I cannot recall another time in my life when I experienced so much joy. That trip to Universal Studios was the first time my Father and I actually did something together, just the two of us and was something brought me close to my Father. In this essay I will tell you about my plane ride over there, what I did right when I got there, and about my time at Universal Studios. I can still remember how excited I was before take off, I mean it felt like forever while we sat in the plane waiting to take off. Just all the anticipation that was inside of me had just made the wait even longer for me. Finally, I heard the pilot say 'prepare for take off'. When I heard those words I was so overjoyed I could hardly contain myself. That rush I got once the plane took off was an experience like no other. The plane ride was about hours long and I enjoyed every minute of it. Little did I know, that was less than half of the fun I was going to have at Orlando. After we got off the airplane, we rented a car and drove to my Uncle Joe?s house. We finally got there and then we all went out to eat dinner. We went to some Italian restraunt and boy was it good. To this day, I have never tasted anything as good as the Veal Picata I had that day. I ate...

Best Vacation

...Best Vacation I Always Have Last year I had the best summer of my life, because I got to go on the vacation of my dreams again. We rented a bright blue Jeep, and headed to the beach in Destin, Florida for a week of extremely relaxing rolling waves, and very fine white sandy beaches. The first night there I was sitting by the blazing fire having a fruity adult beverage, and the sweet smell of the air reminded me of my childhood vacations to the Port Aransas beach in Texas with my parents over summer break from elementary school. I will never forget the outstanding memories I created with my parents on my childhood vacations. I could see the constant waves in the ocean from across the crowded beach, and I would always be so excited to step on the soft, white, sandy beach. As a young child, the first thing I would do is change into my one piece lacy swimsuit and run out to the beach. My cousins and I would spend the day splashing in the salty water, until we were too tired to keep our heads above the water. Then we would sit under our yellow umbrella on the soft damp sand and eat a bite of our favorite foods. It felt so good to have the bright sun blazing down on me. Our favorite thing to do was build the biggest sand castles on the beach. My cousins and I would have contests to see who could draw the best artwork in the sand. The grains of sand glistened in the sun like glitter on our newest handmade T-shirts. I will never forget how the gigantic boat......

Family Vacation

...my family and I have saved for a vacation. We have a good sum in our vacation fund and after the past three years of working hard, we deserve some time to relax and enjoy each other. We all have two weeks off in September and are starting to look at where we want to go. Each of us has a place in mind, but no one is committed to any one place. Mainly we want to go somewhere that offers lots of activities to keep us busy, a place we can relax, and somewhere that will add to our family memories. I have researched several popular vacation locations and finally found Bora Bora, one of the islands in the French Polynesian chain, near Tahiti. Bora Bora has all the ingredients for a wonderful family vacation that we will remember the rest of our lives. Bora Bora is known as a popular exotic destination and will be a great location for our vacation. The main requirement for the place I want our family to go for our vacation is that it has a variety of activities so that we can all fill our time with fun. Of course, vacations are supposed to be relaxing, so wherever we go it should be a place that soothes the soul. Bora Bora has all the requirements but is not within our vacation budget, so I did further review on this travel destination in order to show my family this is a once in a lifetime vacation. To meet all of our vacation requirements, I knew the place would have to be tropical. I researched many places including Hawaii and Mexico. Vacations to either one of those places......
