...79100 Full Year 2.04 2.53 1.37 .35 1.80 Full Year 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 Amazon.com reported a large deficit in the third quarter. Despite a 27% topline advance, year over year, the company logged a loss of $0.23 a share (excluding one-time items) in the September period, owing to its ongoing investment in its physical and technological infrastructure. Indeed, inflated costs related to Amazon’s aggressive investment strategy have led to shrinking margins of late, and taken quite a toll on the bottom line. But we continue to view the recent margin pressure as a near-term concern, which will likely be alleviated as these initiatives pay off and expenses moderate. Margins ought to improve in 2013. Although the company will likely report a steep drop in share net this year, (our 2012 estimate now stands at $0.35, versus our previous expectation of $0.80), we expect costs to moderate quite a bit in the coming quarters. This, coupled with the likelihood that Amazon’s investments will begin to pay off in the months ahead, should allow margins to expand again in 2013. In fact, we look for earnings to bounce back next year, to $1.80 a share. The long-term outlook appears solid. We expect the top line to expand at a nice pace over the long haul. And, as costs moderate further, much of this growth should find its way down to the bottom line. What’s more, a large portion of the company’s recent investments have been committed to improving Amazon Web Services, which tend......

...Financial Report Essay: For admirers of fine crystal, there is something magical about the name Swarovski. For admires of speed and glamour there is something magical about the name Ferrari or Lamborghini. And, without a shadow of doubt, for the lovers of high technology, innovation and music there is something magical about the name Apple. While ages ago our ancestors were bothered by the question of who came first a chicken or an egg, today the question is different. As the fame and success of Apple company and its products is increasing, the question one may rise is for example: what came first … the iPod or iTunes? In my paper I would like to present the financial report of the iTunes. To begin with I would like to give some background history of the product because even though the product itself is familiar to everyone, some may still wonder of its origin and principle function. As a matter of fact iTunes came first, even though it seems that we started hearing about the iPods much earlier. Before the iPod was released, Mac users had had the ‘iLife’ on their computers. The Ilife also included iTunes version 1.0 – however it looked rather different from the “modern” iPods or itunes. The main difference was that the iLife has a three-note icon and not the double green one which people are familiar with today. So, as we can see, the iTunes was around, for for the Mac only, of course, from January 2001. In April of 2003, a new version of iTunes (4.0) was released. That......

Understanding Financial Statements

...Understanding Financial Statements Objective: Analyzing the financial statements of ProtoLabs and compare it with NN Inc to understand various ratios and how it affects the decisions of investors and creditors. About the Company: ProtoLabs was founded by Larry Lukis, as The Protomold Company in 1999. Larry is a successful entrepreneur who was previously a part of a $100 million company whose aim was to design a better printer but was constantly floored by the time it took to obtain the injection molding parts. He then went on to develop a process which would not only take less time to produce injection molding parts but also reduce the costs for product that do not require large quantity. With a rapid growing base the company developed technology to create bigger and more complex parts and introduced Firstcut CNC machining services. The company now provides 3 kinds of services i.e. Additive manufacturing, CNC machining and injection molding. The company went public in year 2012. Liquidity Analysis: Liquidity ratios are used to determine the ability of a firm to payoff its short-term debts. The rule of thumb is that the higher the liquidity ratio, the more is the firm considered safe. Current Ratio: The current ratio measures the company’s ability to pay of its long term and short-term debts. The current ratio takes into account all the current assets of the company (liquid and non-liquid) in comparison to current liabilities. The Formula for calculating......
