The Uses of Wireless Technology in Business Many varieties of wireless communication are available today; and many are even tailored for business application. The two technologies that Team B recommends are cellular communication and WIFI. These are two markets that are reaching to expand accessibility and creating new applications to mobilize our business. Through the WIFI on our phone we are able to send picture of designs for new paper products. We can tailor presentations for our target audience and with our WIFI we can show them almost anywhere especially if a client has access to a smart phone. Through these forms of wireless technology our business has the ability to go global.
Pros
Some benefits of the technologies are as follows. One, cellular technology creates the most efficient form of communication within the company, by keeping employees focus on work while they are communicating since they are using company property. Two, it streamlines the process of exchanging important information in the digital form. Simply put this form is the easiest method of exchanging important information like documents, contracts, and or emails. Therefore having WIFI technology available within the company the process of communication is much quicker and easily accessible.
WIFI technology also benefits a company’s workspace because an employee does not have to work in one specific place based on location of the internet hard line points. It allows employees to move around and still be able to exchange information. This is a benefit for conferencing purposes amongst multiple locations.

Cons There are several cons to these two technologies but the most prominent disadvantage is the high expense. There are added costs for both cellular and WIFI technology in our company. There are ways to limit these costs. Mainly through negotiations most companies that supply these technologies are willing to offer discount prices to commercial companies such as ourselves. However there will be a continual cost that a smaller company like ours may not be able to afford. This cost also includes loss or damage of company property.
There is a high probability of accidents or theft occurring in the workplace. Also to mitigate these issues occurring the company can employ and maintain trained staff to monitor the expenses to avoid out of pocket disbursement to the budget. Should this occur the cost will outweigh the benefit.

When using thing such as Wi-Fi in a business setting you have the risk of security breaches. The fact that a person can simply tap into your network and grab all you personnel information as well as the company data is highly risky. But on the flip side the ability to grab data from a cloud is useful for example; a traveling associate can access data from most anywhere.

The justification for choosing either of these two technologies is “either can be or should be viewed as an investment” J. Taylor. This is based on the fact that there needs to be a high expectation of quality and consistent communication between colleagues, management, and customers.
Though there is some risk to be considered using either the technologies. For example you will have to be aware some employees will abuse the privilege of a company cell phone, and use it on the clock for personal phone calls, or use it to play games of leisure during work hours. Risks to be considered for WIFI employees may log on to inappropriate websites such as social networking and play games during times other than approved break schedules. This will cause the company to fall behind on projects, and have to utilize more overtime and extend deadlines. This alone can result in a growing dissatisfied customer base.

Each one of these types of communication can add to a company’s success. This is why cellular communication and WIFI technologies will benefit the company as a whole. Choosing to have WIFI technology at our location will increase our efficiency and communication with our colleagues and lead us into a future of customer satisfaction and gained wealth.

As noted in the previous comparison you will clearly see each kind of technology offers the ability for a functional business to enhance their communication. Clear and concise communication is at large a necessity in order for any company to produce a vision, and execute the team work required to accomplish an established goal. Though the company is looking at initial out of pocket expenses it is the recommendation of Team B the overall expense and gain is measured to determine which line of communication is best suitable for Party Plates. Attached you will find a spreadsheet detailing some of the expected expenses. Please review and advise of any questions or concerns.

Kind regards,
Team D

...Wireless Technology Proposal In the last decade there has been an increase in portable devices and wireless technology especially in relation to the business world. Party Plates prides itself on being current and our recent move to Access is an example of that philosophy. Recently, however, the company has been plagued by a series of problems such as increased infrastructure costs and a breakdown in customer relationships. The consensus is that wireless technology is the solution. Specifically, Party Plates can benefit from smartphone technology and the use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Smartphones will transform our sales people into a more versatile and mobile workforce by utilizing the phones ability to function as a workstation. “Mobile devices increasingly are becoming an integral part of workflow applications” (Rainer Jr. & Cegielski, 2011, Chapter 7: Wireless, Mobile Computing, and Mobile Commerce). GPS will tighten our delivery system by providing real-time traffic information to our drivers. These two types of wireless technology will increase Party Plates effectiveness as a company. The smartphone of today acts much like a personal computer, rivaling laptops in processing speed and possessing most of a PC’s applications. A smartphone in the hands of a Party Plates salesperson would be able to meet with customers, place orders, and keep in touch with the office all from the field. ...WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY IN THE WORKPLACE Wireless Technology in the Workplace Each year, businesses must change their approach to accommodate the rapidly changing elements of modern technology. Television is fading and social media is on the rise, and it seems as if smart phones and tablets are taking over the world. The following are ways that smart phones have revolutionized our conception of business: * Email and Response Times: Email has done a lot the way we think of business communication, and likewise, smart phones have done a lot to change how we think of emails. It once was standard to let emails pile up because you didn’t have the opportunity to constantly check them, causing response time to be one to three business days. Because of the smart phone, the response time has decreased to two to twelve hours. * Increased Attention to Social Networks: Social networks have already ramped up in popularity and importance for businesses. However, thanks to the constant attention users pay to their smart phone, social networking apps have become the single greatest source of word of mouth traffic. * Easier Travel Opportunities: Going on a business trips is now easier. Because of the smart phone, not only can you can find plane tickets and low hotel prices at a moment’s notice, you can find your way around the area thanks to mobile maps and GPS navigation utilities. * Increased Telecommuting Opportunities: Ten years ago, the idea of working entirely......

Use of Spreadsheets in Business and Technology

...Use of Spreadsheets in Business and Technology Marty Montgomery August 25, 2013 Many corporations depend on spreadsheets as a fundamental (Institute of Corporate Auditors, 2006) device in their financial reporting and operational processes. As a result, the use of spreadsheets is an essential part of the information and decision-making structure for these organizations. In developing and using spreadsheets, organizations need to balance their ease and flexibility against the value of reliable information for management’s application. As users of spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel® or Lotus 1-2-3® have become more sophisticated, so have spreadsheets. Once used to support simple functions such as logging, tracking and totaling information, spreadsheets with enhanced formulas and built-in advanced features are now used to support such business functions as complex valuation models. The use of macros and multiple spreadsheets which are linked together allows users to build very complicated—and sometimes convoluted—models and other business functions with minimal or no documentation. In addition, these complex spreadsheets are not usually supported by the same control environment as formally-developed, purchased applications. For example, the developers and users of spreadsheets are usually not trained in structured programming, testing, version control or systems development life cycles, and spreadsheets are rarely restricted from unauthorized access by......

Wireless Technology

...Wireless technology has become an increasingly crucial part of today's world. From health care and retail to academia across the world, wireless systems are improving the rate and ease with which data is sent and received. Two specific examples of the wireless technology used today personally and professionally are local area networks (LAN) and personal area networks (PAN). A wireless local area network, or LAN is a flexible data communications system implemented as an augmentation to, or an alternative for a, wired local area network. These networks rely on electromagnetic airwaves to transmit and receive over a defined area, usually a few hundred feet. (Yahoo-wireless) In most cases, a wireless transmitter will be connected directly to a wired land network using Ethernet cables. Once the network feed has been connected to the transmitter, and a constant power supply is established, a steady stream of radio, or infrared waves with be produced (both are electromagnetic waves). The vast majority of wireless LAN systems tend to rely on radio waves as the carries for their signals, because infrared waves tend to have a shorter distance at which they are able to transmit, and are more easily interrupted. Radio waves, or radio carriers as they are referred to, transfer data through modulations of the carrier signal. The addition of data to a radio carrier causes the signal to occupy more than a single frequency. Once data is imprinted onto the radio signal it is a simple......

...Wireless Technologies Introduction As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as new applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the U.S. Naval Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently the Electrical Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless laptops/desktops available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the technical research necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the Naval Academy should invest. Background In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio path vice a cable. The device that contains the radio and connects to the wired network is called the “Access Point”. Each client that communicates with the access point must have a wireless PCMCIA card. Once both devices communicate via radio transmission, network access can begin. Each client is configured to communicate with a single access point. A client can move from one access point to another. Roaming from access point to access point (cell to cell), similar to cellular telephone technology, is possible. Technology Discussion There are three wireless technology standards on the market today: Bluetooth, 802.11b, and 802.11a. A new standard, 802.11g, was recently approved by IEEE and products using this technology are......
