...based on resumes, according to research conducted by TheLadders. With this kind of competition, you need to have a flawless resume to get through the screening process. We write a lot about resumes — what to do, what not to do — so now we're introducing a guide to crafting a curriculum vitae that will get you into the interview room. However, these rules are general advice we compiled from career experts. Everyone should tailor their own resume depending on the industry they're in and the position they're applying for. Tailor your resume to the specific position you're applying for. elizabethdaniellephotos / statigr.amYou're basically selling yourself on that piece of paper, so mold the information to reflect what your potential employer is looking for in an ideal job candidate. This is different depending on your industry. Miriam Salpeter advises in U.S.News & World Report that candidates should study the company's web site and "look for repeated words and phrases, taglines, and hints about their philosophical approaches." Then, "mirror some of their language and values in your resume." Put your name and contact info at the top. Business InsiderThis sounds simple, but Peter S. Herzog, author of the book "How To Prolong Your Job Search: A Humorous Guide to the Pitfalls of Resume Writing," says that applicants will try putting this important information on the side or bottom. This is how it should be done: 1. Put your name in bold face and/or......

...In a quest to find a passage to Asia, Giovanni da Verrazano explored the North American coast as King Francis had ordered in 1524. Consequently, because of the exploration being done Jacquie’s Cartier made voyages between 1534 and 1543. However, Canada’s severe winters made him give up and as a consequence, the French ignored most of Canada only paying attention to a few fur traders and fisherman. As time went on the fisheries began having great success which made them grow in numbers that rivaled those of New Spain in volume of shipping. In 1550 the French spread to Havannah and along the Atlantic coast of Florida. This is where New Spain was settled in. As a Result, Pedro Mendez de Aviles attacked them in 1565, and executed those individuals who did not want to convert to Catholicism. Because of Francis’s wars of religion more efforts were blocked for the rest of the century. Then King Henry IV came into power and believed that the survival of the state should take precedence over religious precedence. Someone with the same ideals was a Catholic Soldier and explorer by the name of Samuel De Champlain. Champlain made voyages to Canada with the hope and belief that Catholics and Huguenots could work together and even intermarry. In 1608 he established friendly relations with local Indians where he established Quebec. In 1625 the French crown declared that only the Catholic faith could be practiced in New France. Furthermore, in 1638, Jesuit Missionaries made great......

...Carleigh Barringer Honors American Lit. Period 4 October 30th, 2013 Fahrenheit 451 First Draft In the book Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury tells the story of a futuristic society that burns books and interacts with parlor walls. Bradbury’s intentions were not to predict the future, but rather prevent this futuristic society from existing. Throughout the story, Montag is faced with reality while the people around him are oblivious to everything. His wife watches television an extensive amount of time every day. His wife’s friends could care less about their children, and the whole city is ignorant to the war happening. The people in Fahrenheit 451 are totally absorbed by technology, completely disconnected from emotion and utterly unaware of the violence their society portrays, much like our people today. Technology in Fahrenheit 451 distracts and causes people to be oblivious to everything. Mildred, Montag’s wife, cannot seem to remove herself from her parlor room. She sits and interacts with her television for unhealthy periods of time without even realizing it. Mildred cannot seem to be bothered with anything besides playing her part in her TV shows. On page…, it says “______________________________________.” Mildred does not even care about the issue at hand or that she has almost died, all she wants to talk about is her shows. She is indifferent about herself taking a whole bottle of pills. In our world, people are on their phones twenty/four/seven. From personal......

...Current Market Conditions Competitive Analysis Principles of Microeconomics / Eco 365 John Bayer May 12, 2014 In today’s society everything we do is pretty much wrapped up in evolving technology as it constantly changes with time. This paper will discuss how Apple’s I Phone affects the demand, supply, and the equilibrium prices within a market. The analysis of its competitors as well as potential buyers along with customer base will be discussed. The cell phone industry is one line of business that will forever stay busy. According to Gartner in 2013 Apple sold 150,785.9 trailing right behind Samsung with 299,794.9. Most individuals have done away with the use of home phone or in other terms land line phones and starting to use cell phones. This has a lot to do with technology advancing. Cell phones are now equipped to be able to do things that you were once only able to do on a computer. They are used more now for business purposes, social networking, gaming and paying bills online. Thirty years ago Apple introduced Macintosh with a promise to put the creative power of technology in everyone’s hands (Apple, 2014) needless to say they have firmly stood behind their word. Apple’s supply and demand is factored by a number of things. When manufacturers introduce items to their customers or target customers it’s based off the demand of the customer which determines the supply that is later produced. When you have a demand in a product like you do with the I Phone, you...

It’s the speaker (that’s you) who is responsible for using it effectively. Your slides are there to support you and unfortunately if they suck, so do you. There are endless books written on the topic by some very smart people. But there are lots of ways of designing a great looking presentation, and definitely more than one opinion. Ultimately one of my favourite ways to learn is from other people’s mistakes. ...Often we hear the phrase, "promote from within" as one of the best ways to expand the talent pool. Yet sometimes firms do not post internal openings for which anyone may apply.  Instead, they select someone to promote. Why might a firm do this and what drawbacks could result? On the other hand, some firms prefer to look outside the company to increase the talent pool, including posting information on social networking sites.  What are the benefits of using social media for recruitment? A firm might want to “promote from within” because the company wants to attract their employees. Every ones want to work for a company where they will have the opportunities of promotion. This will encourage people to work harder because they want to go up on that ladder of employment. Also, “promote from with in” helps company save time and money on hiring any position. Company will not have to pay the advertising fee, won’t have to read a bunch of applications, and won’t have to interview lots of people. Another plus thing is when you promote someone from with in, that person already knows well about the company and how things work, so they don’t have to spend a lot of times to learn about the company culture and stuffs, which may lowers their performance for the first couple weeks like employees that are hired from outside of the company might. So “promote from with in is a great way to strengthen your company with out having to spend too much to find the perfect candidates. However,......

...Like you, it’s broken, fragmented. Like you again, it’s alone, left to roam the world in a never-ending solitude. Its outline is jagged, angular, from the protruding bones which have been weathered away to an argent hue. The translucent film covering the skeleton conceals nothing at all. The thestral seems incomplete, as if something has been lost and can never be retrieved. Even the wings, its supposed sign of power, look as if they’ll simply flutter away in the whirls of wind. Thoughts of Mother tend to fade away then. It seems as if when you look at it you realise that you are, perhaps, as insubstantial as everything else in the world. One day, you will be lost in the obscurity of infinity, a mere blot in the world’s life but for this second you are something more than that. Something eternal. The thestral gives you a glimpse of infinity, of what could lie beyond the land of living. It gives you hope that life is not simply a thing of darkness and decay but there's a thing which is above us, transcendent, and seeing the thestral reveals part of the answer to everything. It shows you that Mother can’t really be dead. That though she might be an illusion, she is part of the lone thestral for why else could you suddenly see the thestral? The last idea isn’t yet a lucid one but there is some truth lying beneath it. If truth is there, everything else is too. You drop your hand onto its barbed spine, brushing the tips of your fingers against the curves of it.......

Why Socialism Sucks

...Why Socialism Sucks Brandon Smith Alexander Tokarev 4/26/2013 We live in a world in where different ideologies take over the minds of individuals throughout the world. We have different mindsets which are the products of individuals and the situation in which they have been raised over the course of their life. With these ideologies some are conjured up in the minds of people with immense power over the people of their nation. Governments take the form of different types. There are many different types; Capitalism, Communism, Totalitarianism, Oligarchy, Socialism, Democracy, and even Social Democracy. However I write about only one today…Socialism. I will be taking various examples from Milton Friedman’s The Road to Serfdom. In Milton’s first chapter “The Abandoned Road” he speaks of the history of what we have been founded upon. Individualism speaks to our very core, with the development of Socialism we have been straying too far from what we know, what works. In chapter two, “The Great Utopia”, he speaks about how the French writers who laid the foundations of Socialism call for the control of the people through a strict dictatorship. This dictatorship that would take place will inevitably call for the end of all revolutions of the people so that the government may put its plans into action. Democracy and Socialism have one thing in common: equality. However with Democracy it calls for equality in liberty and freedom whereas Socialism calls for equality through......

Rules Suck

...1. The “no head gear” policy has become outdated since people do not wear hats as part of their normal everyday attire. As stated by the ‘code of conduct’ from the school website, “to reflect that school is a place where we do things differently and to be respectful of the learning environment, hats and other headgear (other than religious apparel) are not to be worn in school.” Respect for their learning environment is shown in many different ways and not just by clothes and accessories. A student’s attitude, willingness to learn and behaviour towards peers and elders are the ways to show respect. Instead of banning hats completely, we should improve this rule by limiting them, to outside of the class rooms. As in today’s modern times hats have become a fashion statement for teens and banning it would be a method for oppressing them. 2. The cost of the food at cafeteria is very expensive and is not at par with what is available in the market for example, a freshly made, hot medium cheese or pepperoni pizza costs 5$ and a junior chicken burger from Mc Donald’s costs 1.50$. Whereas a slice of cold pizza costs 3.75$ and a ham burger costs 2.45$. The school should allow commercial vendors to sell their food at the school cafeteria while strictly adhering to food guidelines as it is done in post-secondary. 3. The course,” Mathematics for Work and Everyday Life” should be taught as a mandatory course and not as an alternative to academic or applied math. It teaches you math......

...The neighbourhood was one of the five areas with the highest number of violent and sexual crimes in the capital between April 2012 and March this year, according to the latest open crime data from the website police.uk. Camden Town came behind only Brixton, Shoreditch and Soho and Leicester Square in the audit, where each hotspot had more than 750 recorded crimes within a 1km radius over the 12 month period. Research student Matt Ashby, an online crime blogger and former police constable for British Transport Police, also found that half of all reported offences took place in less than one per cent of streets across London. Mr Ashby, 32, said: “The Camden Town area had 1,100 violent or sexual crimes in the past year, more than all but three other hotspots in London. “Camden Town is a busy shopping and entertainment destination for Londoners and tourists almost 24-hours a day. “With so many people in the area it is inevitable that some of them will be the victim of crime.” The statistics also reveal that there have been roughly 120 crimes in Camden Town for every 1,000 residents over the past 12months, with reported burglaries and vehicle crimes believed to be growing in number. But anti-social behaviour, robberies and violent crimes have decreased since the first half of 2012. Detective Sergeant Lucy Robinson, from the Central Cluster Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “The statistics demonstrate the proactive work by police in the area, who make regular...

...seeks to establish multi-disciplinary, forward looking approach. In this context the importance of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is recognized. These developments prompted VARG to initiate the follow-up project Linking Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management for Sustainable Poverty Reduction is a key contribution to this theme. The project used grounded examples in Mexico, Kenya and Vietnam and exchange of experiences across those contexts to provide insights into how a more integrated approach to disaster risk management and climate change adaptation can be built. Although risk assessments formed part of the studies, main emphasis was placed on analysing the institutional capacity and constraints/opportunities within the policy process. One area within each country was also selected for more detailed investigation to help ground and inform the national-level institutional analysis. The chosen areas were Nam Dinh province in Vietnam, Yucatan State in Mexico; and Kitui district in Kenya. ASSESSING PROGRESS IN INTEGRATION: MECHANISMS AND BARRIERS In each of the country studies assessment was made of current efforts to address disaster risks and climate change, focussing particularly on aspects that can help build inter-linkage between disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. In this context the country studies explored several key components......

...Fortune 500 firms and 47% of Global 500 companies are either deploying or at least testing the iPad (Berryhill). Today, Apple’s primary target market is the consumer, with little effort exerted to capture the enterprise market. While the numbers above regarding the iPad in corporations are notable, its success stems primarily because of consumerization (employees introducing personal device, such as the iPad, into the corporate environment) and the fact that the iPad had little competition just a year ago. Recently, a variety of competitors have entered the market including Samsung, Research in Motion, Cisco and HP. Many of these companies have avoided direct competition with Apple by focusing on the enterprise market (Berryhill). With this strategy Apple is at risk for losing market share. One report says that non-Apple tablets in 2012 are expected to surge by 134% in 2012 and that Android-based tablets have already grabbed 20% of the market away from the iPad in the last year (King). Apple needs to shift some of its focus to the enterprise market in an attempt to sustain its current market share. Just as Google’s Android-based smartphones slow surpassed Apple’s iPhone, Apple runs the risk of the same fate with the iPad (Gonsalvez). The enterprise market is both substantial and profitable. One CEO has said that “the tablet could be part of one of the biggest IT asset expansion and replacement waves of the last two decades” (“BoxTone Mobile Management Surveys”). If......
