Romance Movies

...Romance movies, these tear-jerking films have always caused emotion, even in men. Although, men might hide it better than women, these films are inspirational. There is a basic storyline to any Romance movie, the woman meets Mr. Right and they fall madly in love and are inseparable or vice versa. Of course, it wouldn’t be so emotional if there wasn’t a little conflict to spice it up or a transition of recognition of one’s feelings. Often it is seen that they chase after each other or mess up the relationship and then are reunited. A widely recognized Romance film, The Notebook, is guaranteed to touch even the strongest man’s heart. It also shows a pure and unconditional love sought out by all. It is an extremely captivating story and throughout, no matter what hardships the couple is faced with they stay together and never give up. This movie is brilliant because it involves an undoubtedly enamored couple that endures it all; conflict, finding each other and revelation of feelings, and a true love. In The Notebook, Noah and Allie come from two very different lifestyles. Noah works at the lumber yard and makes $0.40 an hour. Alley on the other hand, comes from a rich family. This movie takes place in the early 19030-1950’S in North Carolina. In this society, it was very difficult for a man of a “lower-class” to be with a woman oh the “higher class”, and well, Allie’s parents did everything in their power to separate them. They ship her off to a private school in New York so...

Romance at Work

...authors of "Office Mate: The ..[->5] so Dating and romance in the workplace is an interesting topic that will cause quite a discussion among many professionals and their coworkers. In the book titled Office Mate: The Employee Handbook for Finding and Managing Romance on the Job, 38% of employees ages twenty- five to twenty-nine have had an office romance (Losee & Olen, 2007, p. 55). Now, many individuals view office romances as an unavoidable trend as a result of people working together that share the same common interests (Losee & Olen, 2007). However, many people wonder what can be done to decrease the problematic situations that can arise when office romances occur in the workplace. A Consensual Relationship Agreement is a written contract that helps to address the issues created by office romances (Hellriegel & Slocum, 2011). This agreement acknowledges that such relationships will develop and ask that the parties inform their immediate supervisor of any romantic relationship (Merrill & Knox, 2010, p. 171). The contract will confidentially verify that the relationship is consensual (Merrill & Knox, 2010, p. 171). The goal of this policy is to prevent cases of sexual harassment, perceptions of favoritism, and inappropriate workplace behavior (Hellriegel & Slocum, 2011). As an elementary educator in the Memphis City School System, I have observed many aspects of office dating and its negative effects. Many times an office romance can go sour and as a result, relationship......

Revolution and Romance

...Michael Bennett Page 1 Dr. Alla Boldina ENG 110-60 REVOLUTION AND ROMANCE Creedy: “Why won’t you die!?” V: “Beneath this mask is more than flesh…there are ideas. And ideas are bulletproof.” With these words, the film, “V for Vendetta” dramatically demonstrates the power of ideas to challenge and overcome the evil of oppression. In film critic Robert Ebert’s review of “V for Vendetta,” he notes the power of ideas, especially the belief that people should not be afraid of their governments, but rather that governments should be afraid of their people. Although Ebert questions the necessity of fear, and believes that governments and people should be able to happily co-exist, I think he trivializes the significance of the film’s message. Although it is an in-depth, well written look at the story, it is one-sided. He gives credit to a novel written by Allen Moore in 1983, on which the film is based, and compares “V for Vendetta” to other movies and stories. The main character, V, is described in detail, and Ebert explains his purpose in the story. The other characters, however, are not mentioned very much, leaving the reader a bit blank. I appreciate that he mentions the main idea of the film, and is generous with quotations. I do fin d his criticism a bit excessive, as he puts down the mask that V wears because the lips don’t move and his vision would be obstructed. Ebert seems biased on behalf of London’s architecture, as he expresses his......

Romance

...What is romance? Romance is a feeling of deep attachment, affection and infatuation one feels for someone. It is an emotion of the heart that gives a new outlook to life. It makes you feel good; feels like you are in heaven. A person in romance needs nothing more than his/her beloved. That is romance! When you look at the clouds flying across the sky, when you suddenly start enjoying everything around you and when you marvel at the beauty of nature that seems to have gotten so exotic ever since you fell in love. You feel inspired; nothing looks impossible. We usually study in ancient and modern literature that love is not always easy- it comes with great many difficulties. But true love is what motivates lovers to keep going and do anything for each other. Romance can’t be easily defined but only experienced. One who has never felt romantic will never understand about love. Lucky are those who fall in love because Love is Beautiful! I remember we had a family friend, Sara. She was a hard-working and smart person who always kept her friends and family (esp. Mum and Dad) as her foremost priority in life. She was a gifted artist and wanted to be a designer but she fulfilled her parents’ wish, did MBA and took responsibility of their family business. Sara never really got what she dreamed of, for she was just too scared to express her feelings in fear that the people around her might oppose. Even afterwards she never had time for her personal life. One day Sara dealt with a new...

Courtly Love and Mediieval Romance

...Lewis wrote the ‘the Allegory of love and further solidified courtly love ‘as a highly specialized type of love whose characteristics may be defined as humility, courtesy, adultery and the religion of love (Lewis). In essence, courtly love was an experience between erotic desire and spiritual attainment that now seems contradictory as "a love at once illicit and morally inspiring, passionate and disciplined, mortifying and exalting, human and inspirational" (Newman). History Many scholars who have believed that courtly love was a historical development rely on historical literature. Courtly love is believed to have begun in southern France in the ducal princely courts of Aquitaine, Provence, and Champagne, ducal Burgundy and the Norman Kingdom of Sicily, a sufficiently peaceful yet isolated region, that was perfect to birth and develop such a movement from around the time of the First Crusade in 1099. In fact, many literary giants (Avignon, Toulouse, Nimes under the domaine of Eleanor, Duchess of Aquitaine) retreated in this region. In addition, the leisure class, the wealthy, and the self-sufficient society discovered a new craze in this area. The areas courts attracted intellectuals from all over, as the South was more liberal and pluralistic, with Arabs, Jews and Byzantines being among the residents of the area. Perhaps, even the men outnumbered the women in South France. Eleanor of Aquitaine brought the ideals of courtly love from Aquitaine to the court of France......

The Kingdoms

...Cynthia Decker Bio-101 Andrew Walsh August 3, 2013 The Prokaryotic Kingdoms The first kingdom I would like to talk about in the Prokaryotic Evolution is the Bacteria Kingdom. There are many different bacteria in this world, some are bad which cause sickness and disease and some, surprisingly, can be beneficial in today’s world. First, let’s take a look at some bad bacteria, and what can happen when we come across it. There are bacteria and other organisms that cause disease, and they are called pathogens .Most of the time, our bodies can keep the pathogens that we are regularly exposed to in check. Our immune system is amazing at this. Once in a while our body’s defense system become compromised and will fail, maybe when we don’t get the vitamins and minerals that we need. Toxic overload (prescription medicines, cleaning fluids, insecticides, hairspray etc.),not enough sleep, too much stress, old age, too much exposure to the sun, too much physical exertion, or the wrong diet could all lower our immune system. ("A Weak, or Strong Immune System,” 2007) That is when bacteria could creep in and set up house in our bodies. Even some bacteria that we normally carry without causing us harm can gain strength and over run us if we are not careful. A bacterium makes us sick when they become too strong and secrete a poison called Exotoxins. An example of a Bacteria pathogen is too often see is Salmonella. A more common lay term for......

Three Kingdoms of Korea

...Three Kingdoms Period of Korea The Three Kingdoms period of Korea is an important part of world history. This research paper will describe the three kingdoms of Korea, from 57 Before Common Era until 688 Common Era into the Unified Silla Kingdom period. The history and art from these periods will be discussed in order to show the impact it has had on the Korean culture. This paper will show the Influence China had when the Koreans created their empire and works of art. The Three Kingdoms period of Korea began in 57 BCE due, in part, to the Chinese occupation of the western peninsula. There were many tribes in Korea, prior to 100 BCE, when the Chinese fought and gained control of the western peninsula. The strongest of all the Korean tribes were migratory hunters known as the Koguryo tribe. (Korean Enigma, 2004). The Koguryo tribe was a difficult adversary for the Chinese and made it difficult to for them to keep their stronghold. The Chinese were forced to leave their three outposts in Korea, giving the territory back to the Koguryo tribe. The Koguryo tribe overtook the Chinese, Okcho and Ye tribes, and incorporated them into their own. The powerful Koguryo tribe continued battling the Chinese and eventually conquered half of Manchuria. (Korean Enigma, 2004). The Han Tribes also occupied Korea during this period. With the defeat of the Chinese, the Hans branched out and formed two separate kingdoms, Paekche and Silla. The Three Kingdoms of Korea included Koguryo,......

Romance at Work

... Dr Dickerson Human Resources November 7, 2013 Workplace Romance Dating someone at your work site is nothing new. Work has always been a key place for persons to meet and learn about one another. Over the years the trend has increased, and because of increased litigation brought on by harassment and discrimination lawsuits, Workplace Romances have become dangerous to a Company environment. Perhaps the most effective way to limit your exposure to litigation is for a Company to develop policy's that address behavior, conduct, and performance issues associated with employee conduct involved in workplace dating. Being with someone over 40 hours a week gives you a chance to know them. You respect them by working on projects with them and a lasting bond is developed. Why then shouldn't a willing couple be granted the time and freedom to enjoy each others company in a workplace setting. After all, you don't get the chance to see and know someone over time which you met at a bar or some other place. The co-worker shares your success's, your Company goals and values, and if your on the same shift, time at and off work. You won't miss work because you want to see her/him on a regular basis, especially if your married and limited to seeing them away from work because of a suspecting husband or wife. After all, everyone is professional and a grown up and knows how to act, we can handle the office romance just fine. Another positive includes always being together. Being...

Romance Genre

...The Romance Genre One of the most common themes in films is love. In Bordwell and Thompson’s study The Classical Hollywood Cinema (1998), they calculated that 85 percent of Hollywood films has romance as their main plot. Which means in most Hollywood films, Romantic Love is a major concern. Contemporary American cinema still uses the same formal in romance films. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl and then boy gets girl in the end. Bellour a film critic, identifies this convention as pattern that constitutes classical Hollywood cinema as a whole (“Alternation” 88). This illustrates that Hollywood often portrays and idealized version of love. Hollywood’s emphasis on romantic love and courtship, is almost like a reflection of America’s commercial enterprise. Producing movies only for mass entertainment purposes. We happen to live in society in which the choice of partners and marriages completely free. Although Pierre Bourdieu (1990) has argued that our relationships and marriage patterns have been heavy influenced by cultural institutions. As Hollywood film is particularly addressed to young people, film can be seen as an institution that has influenced their formation of ‘habitus’ or their behaviour towards courtship. Popular romantic films are often provocative and complex. They tell us about ourselves as men and women. Sexual desire, love, relationships and our fallibilities and fears. They show us how our beliefs, what we should think and how we should behave.......

Romance in the Workplace

...what exactly do we mean? Besides going to work every day are employees also playing a corporate "Dating game"? By conducting a survey of employees at three major Calgary Corporations the answer would be "yes". At the very least the coupling process at work has become accepted, almost common. When asked "Have you ever been involved in an office romance?" 36% of men said yes, while 30% of women had a positive response. When asked, "What would you do if you found out about an office romance?" 60% of males and 72% of females answered "Nothing!" It would seem the new "club scene" takes place between nine to five. Are companies worried about their well-paid employees running around like rabbits on a brisk spring morning? They can not be very concerned seeing as 72% of males and 48% of females were not even aware if their offices had a policy on office romance while only 8% out of the hundred we surveyed knew for certain that there was a policy. Perhaps the policy makers are a little busy with the new clerk in accounting…. However, before you start "arranging" the seating plan at the next office soiree consider that only 4 of all surveyed actually married their romance. Two had lost credibility and three say it interfered with their work. Then again 9 people surveyed began a long-term romance. It would seem that office romance has become a romantic stomping ground, but is there situations that are seen as unacceptable? It appears that about 36% of the gals and 28% of......

The Kingdom of God

...A STUDY ON THE KINGDOM OF GOD A PROJECT SUBMITTED TO DR. JOEL AJAYI IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COURSE OBST 592 OLD TESTAMENT ORIENTATION II BY JAMES D. PERKINS Student ID: 3437129 jdperkins3@liberty.edu LOUISVILLE, KY 5 OCTOBER, 2012 08 Fall 08 Fall Introduction The angel Gabriel visited the Virgin Mary and heralded one of the most debated and controversial eschatological statements in all of Scripture. "With breathtaking brevity, in one vast, glorious, revelation Gabriel succinctly summarized the entire ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ". There was nothing theologically new in the angel's announcement for much of it had been the subject of the Old Testament prophets, yet there is little agreement among scholars regarding its fulfillment. Gabriel, having come from the presence and glory of God (Luke 1:19), no doubt relayed the words of God in precise detail: "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end" (Luke 1:30-33 ESV). These words would have rung with Messianic overtones to any Jewish person living at that time, and Mary probably understood this to mean the inauguration of the anticipated Jewish...

...employee satisfaction. The turnover rate of employees at Starbucks was 65% and the rate of managers was 25% a year However, the rates of other national chain retailers are 150% to 400% and 50% respectively. Compared with them, the turnover rate of Starbucks is much lower than other industries on average. As a result, Starbucks is one of the optimal business models for strategies of employee motivation, customer satisfaction and cooperation of teamwork. The history of Starbucks Starbucks began by three friends, Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker, who knew each other at the University of Seattle, in 1971. A sales representative, Howard Schultz, decided to be a part of Starbucks, as director of marketing and retail sales, after he realized the atmosphere and environment of the company. In 1985 Howard Schultz chose to establish a new coffee shop, named II Giornale, in Seattle. After the next two years, due to the successful strategy of Schultz, the original three owners of Starbucks decided to sell their corporation to Schultz. Then Schultz gathered other investors and changed the name of II Giornale to Starbucks. He sought to pursue his dream to make everyone taste his coffee, so he focused on the rate of expanding. At that time, he though that the most efficient way to grow the amount of branches was to set up new stores in other places. In I987, Starbucks had the first overseas store in Japan. Until the end of 2002, Starbucks has developed from 17......

Kingdom

...Kingdom of God Dr. Pat Francis Dustin William Hall September 8th 2011 Introduction In a kingdom there are kings and queens, princes and princess's and all kinds of other royalty figures. To the common person access to the royal people and the royal property is not allowed. To capture and take hold that we we're born with royalty in our spiritual bloodline and that the God that sent HIS only begotten son not only wanted us to receive the free gift of salvation but wanted us in his royal family is astonishing. God not only wants us to be blessed but he wants us to accept the benefits of being in the royal family. Kingdom of God I have the ability to be so attractive. The kingdom of God is something that when placed inside of our hearts makes us attractive to those around us. We posses the solutions to the modern day questions. We walk with something that all mankind will react too because God created all in HIS image and are allow subject to HIS creativity entity. With the kingdom of God reigning in our hearts we allow the invisible kingdom to take reign and allow an everlasting kingdom to begin to open up opportunities for us. Opportunities like establishing that which was rightfully the LORDS back to HIM. The world has established it's kingdom and is in pursuit of capturing the sons and daughters of light. When we realize that we have the kingdom of God within us, we can begin to take authority over the kingdoms that threaten God's. The......

Germanic Romance

...Germanic Romance as a Getaway from Medieval Society Erec and Enide, Parzival, and Tristran were all very popular Medieval Authurian Romances which have captivated many readers through the years. I too have found reading them to be very enjoyable experience. I particular liked the aspect of reading stories that were written centuries ago, which has given me some insight into the culture of medieval northern Europe. I have been able to realize the importance that medieval people placed on the ideas of being a knight, courtly love, and King Authur’s court. I believe I know why these works were so popular, it was because works like this allowed individuals of medieval societies to be taken away to a fantasy land where everyone was beautiful and those who acted in the right manner were rewarded for such actions. This fantastic other world was a major contradiction to what life in medieval times was actually like. I have read many articles describing medieval life as being hard, rough, unrelenting, a constant struggle for survival, routinely fighting off invading armies, and those who did live glorious lives were a select few. But when one would read one of these three stories they could visualize King Aurthur’s court which was full of brave knights who had beautiful wives, and one could only hope that somehow he would find himself in this wonderful place and everything would be just fine. This is why these stories were so popular because they could transport the reader from......

Romance

...Romance is a term that is described as a pleasurable feeling of excitement and wonder associated with love. With the coming of age for adolescents, it is normal to experience such emotions towards another individual. However, sometimes these feelings are misinterpreted or misdirected. In John Updike’s short story “A&P” and James Joyce “Araby”, both authors tell of a tale of teenagers and their struggles with young love. Updike allows reader’s to see through the eyes of a teenager in his story “A&P”. The story begins with Sammy, a young clerk who becomes fascinated with the arrival of three girls in his store. The girl that grabs his attention the most is Queenie, by carefully observing her walk through the aisles and talk to her friends, he goes through a tremendous change in his character. At first, Updike shows us the immature side of Sammy, he quotes “The one that caught my eye first was the one in the plaid green two-piece…where the sun never seems to hit, at the top of the backs of her legs” (pg. 835), this shows the reader that Sammy is immature concentrating on the girls instead of doing his job. However, as we go further into the story, his somewhat obsession for Queenie leads him to question his own life. His feelings become so powerful that he forms his own conclusions about Queenie and her life and wonders if he could be part of that life too. When the girls finally approach the register, they are embarrassed by Lengel. This angers Sammy and causes him to change......
