Database Concepts Research Paper

...Database concepts research assignment week 9 Don't use Personal Identifiable Information (PII) in your password such as, Name, User name, Birthday, Pet’s name or Child's name. Don't use any word that can be found in the dictionary as your full password. Don’t use the same password for online banking that you use for social networking or email. Don’t give your password to someone over the phone. Try to use special characters such as non-alphabetic characters. Try to create passwords at with at least eight characters. Try to use a password vault application to protect and help manage your many passwords. Try to change your most critical passwords on a regular basis. The Windows operating system already has authentication functionality built-in. It has to do so. And if you're in a domain environment, there are special computers, called Domain Controllers, where authentication actually takes place. Those systems tend to be treated more security than regular servers, even SQL Servers. And therefore, if the username/password combinations are going to be stored on the most secure systems in the domain, that would be on the domain controllers (as a side note, a hash is what is actually stored there, not the password itself). If you let Windows do the authentication, then SQL Server doesn't have to store anything related to a username/password combination. And it's up to Windows to check the security. In other words, SQL Server is handing off this sort of authentication to processes......

Research Database

...Research Database Assignment Form Describe briefly your topic of interest (15 possible points): According to the American Diabetes Association (2013), "There are 25.8 million people in the United States, or 8.3% of the population, who have diabetes". The amount of cases of adolescents with Type 1 diabetes, previously known as juvenile diabetes is multiplying. Lack of compliance in diabetes can lead to serious complications, such as blindness, kidney damage, cardiovascular disease, neuropathy and foot ulcers, but people with diabetes can lower the occurrence of these and other diabetes complications by controlling blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood lipids by eating properly, exercising, and following the treatment regimen. My topic is on compliance issues with the adolescent with Type 1 Diabetes; parental support and involvement and influences from peers. #1 Database (or collection) (30 possible points): Title of source: Academic Search Complete Location of source (URL): http://www.ebscohost.com/academic/academic-search-complete Owner or publisher: EBSCO Host Describe (in your own words) the research database or collection of research including the purpose and the subject matter it covers: This database is the world's most comprehensive, scholarly full-text academic journals for multidisciplinary research that is offered by most institutions, which grants free access. ...capability, Collection type enhancements, non-enforced table constraints, and window enhancements. With SQL:2011 replacing SQL:2008 as the standard in December of 2011, there were also some new DDL features that improved the usability of generated and identity columns. 2. SQL Express allows certain features that are available in the regular edition. The following are major features that are supported in SQL Express: Stored Procedures, Views, Triggers, Cursors, sqlcmd and osql utilities, Snapshot Isolation levels, Native XML support (including XQuery and XML Schemas) Transact-SQL language support, and dedicated administrator connection. In Oracle Express, you are able to use a browser-based interface to administer the database, create tables, views, and other database objects, import, export, and view table data, run queries and SQL scripts, and generate reports. DB2 Express is a no-charge community edition of DB2 data server and is ideal for small businesses and multi-branch companies. It includes self-managing capabilities and includes all of the core features of the larger DB2 editions which include Data Studio, Time Travel Query, PureXML and compression backup. After looking over all of the specs of each of these programs, I believe that SQL and Oracle are the top two. When we look into the finer details of things, my personal preference would be to go with SQL Express as there are many reviews that support it. Bibliography IBM. (2012). DB2 Express. Database Concepts Research Assignment

...Addison Huggins Unit 4 Research assignment 1 July 24, 2014 The definition of Functional dependency is when one attribute in a relation uniquely determines another attribute. This can be written A -> B which would be the same as stating "B is functionally dependent upon A." While I was looking online for a good example of Functional dependency I came across one, the example comes from the website. http://databases.about.com/cs/specificproducts/g/functdep.htm in this example and I quote ” In a table listing employee characteristics including Social Security Number (SSN) and name, it can be said that name is functionally dependent upon SSN (or SSN -> name) because an employee's name can be uniquely determined from their SSN. However, the reverse statement (name -> SSN) is not true because more than one employee can have the same name but different SSNs.” Transitive dependency occurs when there is an indirect relationship that causes a functional dependency. While looking this up on the internet, it is hard to find a good example but in time I did. The example comes from http://databases.about.com/od/specificproducts/g/transitive-dependency.htm and from the website the example is and I quote “”A -> C” is a transitive dependency when it is true only because both “A -> B” and “B -> C” are true.” Demoralization is a strategy that database managers use to increase performance in their database. This is used to reduce certain types of problems that might......

Online Research Methods

...Online Research Methods Online marketing research is the process by which companies use the Internet to gather data to evaluate how well a product or service is selling to consumers. The information provided by a careful market analysis conducted online can also identify popular trends that can assist a company in creating a strategy that will get better results. When used properly, online marketing research can be an effective tool that a company can use to experience higher revenues. In addition to identifying potential areas for growth, online market research can help a company learn more about its target consumers. For example, if consumers purchase a certain type of product and then return to purchase accessories, that is a specific type of consumer behavior that can be measured. The information gathered from doing an online market research study is helpful to track this type of behavior. An online marketing research study can be conducted by the company itself, or the company may choose to hire an outside company to manage this. How and by what method a company decides to conduct a market research plan is dependent upon how objective or anonymous the company wishes to remain. An online marketing research program can include any number of methodologies. Some companies may use a direct method, by which a survey is sent out to existing customers to determine satisfaction levels and gather feedback. A company may also contact consumers and gather information from a......

Research Database Assignment Form

...Research Database Assignment Form Describe briefly your topic of interest (15 possible points): The area that was chosen for this assignment is alarm fatigue. Alarm fatigue has been described as the process that occurs when nurses are desensitized due to too many alarms that are sounding constantly. Often times, there is no clinical indication for alarms that are sounding. This leads nurses to make the assumption that certain alarms are not important or the alarms very simply become background noise. Alarm fatigue has become nationally recognized and is the National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) that was implemented by JCAHO for 2014.  Medical alarms that are supposed to make nurses aware that something is wrong with the patient and prevent sentinel events have resulted in sentinel events. Some research has been done to show that alarms that were ignored is what led to the sentinel event occurring.  I chose to research this area as I have witnessed this in the workplace over the years. I am reluctant to see what the outcomes of research on this subject will lead to and what protocol implementations will occur to meet the 2016 JCAHO deadline for this problem to be addressed. #1 Database (or collection) (30 possible points): Title of source: Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Location of source (URL): http://www.aami.org/htsi/alarms/library.html Owner or publisher: Healthcare Technology Safety Institute (HTSI) Describe (in......

Online Research

...Checkpoint: Online Research I was very impressed on how fast and efficient it was to locate information just by using keywords whether it was an article in a magazine, newspaper, and/or journal. I was particularly interested when we typed in “ Microsoft” and you could find out anything you wanted about company; history, financial standing, and new products. I could not believe all the information it supplied with a touch of a button. In the traditional setting it would of took a lot longer to find the information and may have had to go through many different sources to obtain all the information that was on that particular web site. Also in the traditional setting if you needed assistance from the librarian you might have to wait your turn to speak to her or him and could direct to other resources. But online all you have to do is fill in the appropriate information exactly what you are looking for and submit it. It does state that it could take up to 48 hours to get an answer but according to the web site it has taken no hours for an immediate response. When doing research online you also have what they call a “wild card” which can help you to narrow your search. I remember when I was in college back in the 1980’s and had to spend a lot of time in the library and had to stop because it was time to pick up the kids and go fix supper and some of the information or resource could not leave the library. Online you can save it to favorites and come back to it and......

Evaluate Library Databases and Resources for Use in Research

...Library Databases Search Both of the XXX Universitiy library databases and the websites were useful for searching information, but each of them was helpful in a different way. The library databases were only efficient when searched by keywords although their outputs could be controlled by using limiters to narrow down to the topics of interest. The websites, on the other hand, were useful for searching phrases and broad ideas, but their search results could not be filtered. When I first started the library search, I had no idea what to search for. Hence, I began exploring the Harvard Business School website instead. I scanned through tens of their journal articles in Research & Ideas section and spotted an interesting journal of Asian and American leadership styles (Mills, 2005). I used these keywords to search in the library databases. Surprisingly, it returned over 46,800 entries, and there were a few topics about South-East Asia. I changed the search keywords to South-East Asia Leadership Styles and "AND" Management. Then, I set other the limiters to Scholarly/Peer Reviewed Journals, Academic Journals, and 2005-to-2015. This time, the databases returned only 2,316 entries. Out of these articles, I found three academic journals relevant to my search criteria. Other topics such as Academic Transformational Leadership also appeared in the search results. I feel confident that that the library databases are an excellent resource for searching information for my......

...Name Kaplan University Practicing Online Research PA201 – Unit 2 Assignment November 22, 2014 1. Give the proper Bluebook citation for the source and also one paragraph summary of its contents: a. Case: 393 U.S. 503 [the case came out in 1969] In December 1965, students of public schools in Des Moines, Iowa wore a black armband to school to show their objections to the hostilities in Vietnam. The principals of these three schools became aware of the student’s plan to wear the armbands on December 16, 1965, and adopted a policy forbidding students to wear the armbands two days prior. Any student wearing an armband would be asked to remove it, or would be suspended for refusal until after New Year’s Day. Though the petitioners, Mary Beth and John Tinker and Christopher Eckhardt, were aware of the regulation that the school authorities adopted, they still wore their armbands to school as planned and were suspended when they refused to remove them. Tinker v. Des Moines Sch. Dist. 393 U.S. 503 (1969) b. Case: 655 S.E.2d 232 Leilani Capp, Grandmother and guardian of Brian Hunter Sykes, filed a suit against Carlito’s Mexican Bar and Grill to recover compensatory and punitive damages when an incident occurred that resulted in Sykes obtaining injuries from a car crash. Sykes’ mother took him to Carlito’s bar, where she drank heavily, drove herself and this child home intoxicated, and then crashed her vehicle on the way home. Capp alleges that a......
