SAMPLE FORMAT FOR TASK 1 PART A
*Course Mentor Note on the interpretation/application of the Taskstream Instructions: According to the instructions in Taskstream, you may conclude the task is asking you to include 3 components for Part A of Task 1 which are: 1. Six of seven characteristics 2. Advantages and disadvantages for each business organization 3. Brief description for each business organization

Thus, regarding the format for Task 1 Part A for LIT1, the Bullet/Listing approach (mentioned in the Task 1 Instructions) is below, which basically is you’ll describe each characteristic in usually about 1-2 sentences then move on. Example of how to apply this format:

SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP:
• LIABILITY – (1-2 Sentence Description)
• INCOME TAXES – (1-2 Sentence Description)
• LONGEVITY/CONTINUITY – (1-2 Sentence Description)
• CONTROL – (1-2 Sentence Description)
• PROFIT RETENTION – (1-2 Sentence Description)
• LOCATION – (1-2 Sentence Description)
• CONVENIENCE/BURDEN – (1-2 Sentence Description)

As you will note, the subheading is the business form/organization and the bullets are the characteristics you need to describe. Once you’ve done this for Sole Proprietorship then you move on and do the same for the rest of the business organizations as well, which are:

• GENERAL PARTNERSHIP
• LIMITED PARTNERSHIP (NOT LIMITED LIABILITY PARTNERSHIP)
• REGULAR C CORPORATION (NOT CLOSED/CLOSELY HELD CORPORTION)
• S-CORPORATION
• LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY

Six of seven characteristics 2. Advantages and disadvantages for each business organization 3. Brief description for each business organization But to clarify what is actually required, you only need to describe the 6 of 7 characteristics; you don’t need to list Disadvantages/Advantages nor a brief description. The reason: 1) the info for your advantages/disadvantages/brief description and bullet list essentially is the same so you'd see redundant work and 2) if you look at the rubric for Task 1, the only metric is that you have 6 of 7 characteristics for each business organization - there is no metric for brief description nor advantages/disadvantages. Thus, regarding the format for Task 1 Part A for LIT1, the Bullet/Listing approach (mentioned in the Task 1 Instructions) is below, which basically is you’ll describe each characteristic in usually about 1-2 sentences then move on. ...LIT1 Task 1 Part A SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP: A business that is owned by one person and is not incorporated. Sole proprietorships are easy to start. You don’t need a lawyer and you don’t need to register with the government except to obtain a business license or permit where required. * Liability: The owner is liable for all debts incurred by the business. His personal property can be attached. He is also responsible for any damage an employee may cause while working for him. * Income Taxes: The owner pays ordinary income tax on all profits. This can be an advantage because most of the time personal tax rates are lower than corporate rates. But, a sole proprietor will have to pay self-employment tax at a rate of 13.3% for the first $106,800 of income and 2.9% after that. The owner needs to register for an EIN (Employer Identification Number) if he will have employees. Payroll taxes need to be paid on employees.   * Longevity/ Continuity: The business exists as long as it is financially solvent, the owner is alive, and the owner continues running the business. If the owner brings in another investor it becomes a partnership.   * Control: The owner is solely responsible for all decisions concerning the management of the business. If they want to expand the business or end the business it's totally up to them.   * Profit Retention: The owner keeps all profits and he also takes all losses.   * Location:......

The Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in 1990 and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975 was also passed to help provide more guidelines for each employer and employee. The Family Medical Leave Act allows the employees of those covered to take unpaid, job-protected leave for a specified family or medical reasoning with the continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee has not taken leave. Those who are eligible is someone who has been working with the company for at least one year, the medical reasoning is the birth of a child in the immediate family or another medical emergency for immediate family. There are 26 workweeks of leave during a one year period that is covered for serious illness or injury. Because of the length of employment that Employee A has been with the company his leave was allowed. However, the Family Medical Leave Act allows for an unpaid leave of up to 26 weeks, so the manager was right to deny the request for the withheld salary. Here the conclusion is derived as there is a clear link between emotional reactivity of investors and trading performance. 3. Do you think that the results of Sam’s study are generalizable to other organizations? Why (not)? This study is lack in generalizability. For the purpose of this study Sam has chosen 50 traders form a training programme. But the question is whether the 50 samples represent the real situation. Therefore, if this research is to be generalized to some other organization or industry then the samples should contain the representatives those of industries. 4. Sam explains to Akrisious that even though he has tried to meet all the hallmarks of scientific investigation, he has not included all the variables that influence the financial performance of traders. Using vocabulary Akrisious has never heard of (such as omitted variable bias and biased and inconsistent parameter estimates) Sam argues that his study may lack rigor and that therefore his study is probably not 100% scientific. a. What is rigor? Means carefulness, scrupulousness and the degree of exactitude in research investigation. A good theoretical base and around methodological design......

...LIT1- Task #1 Provisions of FMLA: In 1993, congress passed the Family and Medical Leave Act, they developed this bill to assist employees that needed to be out for extenuating, planned, or unforeseen medical circumstances. To remove the fear and worry of losing one’s current place of employment. The creation of this bill gives, employees the ability to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave, although they do have the option of using all of their calendar year given vacation time to compensate themselves while on FMLA. Because employee A, fell into several of the major FMLA provisions, he had been granted the ability to take leave. How FMLA Applies: I do believe that the Family Medical Leave Act applies to employee A. As I have found, several areas that favor his rights to take FMLA. The birth of his children, the health of his children as they were born prematurely, and lastly he has the right as a spouse to take care of his wife and children. Although, he has the right to take leave, through the Act, this still does not require us as the employer to pay wages for the 11 weeks he did not work. We have followed the law, and the law says that we must hold his job, and continue to treat him as an employee that is on leave. Did we violate FMLA? I have found that no violation has occurred between us and Employee A. We have allowed employee A to take leave as he requested, we allowed him the full 12 weeks, although he wants to come back after......

...quality of particular interest. It is the basis of payment in most coal supply contracts. In the United States, the heating value of coal is measured in British thermal units per pound (BTU/lb), by using a national standard test procedure (ASTM D-2015). ASTM standards also indicate that repeated measurements should give values within 100 BTU/lb. Normally, the only way to determine heating value is to send a carefully prepared sample off to a laboratory and wait for the results. This can lead to disputes, if the customer and the supplier don’t agree on which lab to use or if the results from different laboratories give drastically different results. In an effort to determine the extent of any intra- or inter-laboratory variation in heating value measurements, one coal company prepared 50 samples of coal from a common area (so that results were expected to be very close). They shipped the samples in two batches to five reputable laboratories. Each batch consisted of five samples sent to each lab; the two batches were sent at different times. The samples were drawn randomly, packed in water (to minimize oxidation effects) and sent in sealed plastic containers. The labs were not aware that an experiment was being run, and the coal company hoped that the results would thus reflect the labs’ normal operating procedures. DATA SET The labs made several measurements, but only those for heating value are given below. What do you think the coal company should conclude about the......
