This chapter focused on self-awareness – what it is, why it’s important, and how to acquire and increase the degree to which you possess it. Other elements that comprise the self, including personality, attitude, and emotional intelligence, were also discussed. Complete the following worksheet upon completing all reading and experiential activities for this chapter. 1. The one or two areas in which I am most strong are:
Self-awareness is one of the key concept to boost self confidence in ourselves and also to encourage ourselves to face the outer world, person, situation and other things. The areas which I’m strong on when it comes to self-awareness would be attitudes and also personality. Attitude which I possess in my personal life and in professional life differs according to the surroundings. In my personal opinion attitude is an easiest way to judge a person. The way we perceive things and reflect towards certain issues, person, situation matters the most. Taking care of our attitude helps ourselves to improve the relationship built with others such as family, friends, colleagues, manager and so on.

This belief has now been shown to be false; several algorithms have been proposed that can reconstruct fingerprint images from minutiae templates. ...Journal Entry #1 Interpersonal communication involves eye contact. For me there is nothing worse then looking down or away when you’re having a discussion with someone and especially if you’re having a serious conversation. When I was younger I had a problem with looking people in their eyes when I was being talked to but realized how bad it was when it was being done to me in a more serious matter. Another thing that could effect a conversation is a clear speaking voice. This is not only to not interpret the message clearly but to make sure things don’t have to be repeated over and over again due to the person not hearing you and running the chance of not understanding you as well. 3-5 goals I have set for myself this semester are: 1. Complete all my classes-what I mean by this is that I’m scheduled to graduate in June 2010 but up until last year I have never dropped a course which I signed up for but I have dropped one last semester and two this semester, but have picked up several to replace them. 2. Become a better parent of my six year old daughter. Everyone tells me I’m a really good parent but for me I always thing I could be doing better. I have found a free parenting class to attend and out of the tow classes I have attended I’ve learned a lot so far. 3. Don’t procrastinate. Yusof Department of Economics, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Abstract Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the efficiency of selected conventional and Islamic unit trust companies in Malaysia during the period 2002 to 2005. Design/methodology/approach – The paper adopts Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to investigate efficiency, as measured by the Malmquist index, which is decomposed into two components: efficiency change and technical change indexes. Findings – The study indicates that technical efficiency is the main contributor to enhancing the efficiency of the Malaysian unit trust industry. In addition, the larger the size of the unit trust companies, the more inefficient the performance. In comparing the efficiency of unit trust companies, the study finds that some of the Islamic unit trust companies perform better than their conventional counterparts. Research limitations/implications – The study is limited to five Islamic unit trust companies. Moreover, people come to perceive institutionalised beliefs and rules as reality and thence take-them-for-granted (Meyer and Rowan, 1977, 91; Scott, 1987, 2001). Institutionalised prescriptions may be myths, enforced by laws, public opinion, education, and constituents’ views but organisations that conform are socially defined as successful, and thence are more likely to survive (Scott, 1987). Thus, organisations become isomorphic with institutional environments (DiMaggio and Powell, 1983, 91b). Isomorphism is a “constraining process that forces one unit in a population to resemble other units that face the same set of environmental conditions” (DiMaggio and Powell, 1991: 66). NIS scholars do not deny the possibility of competitive isomorphism (e.g. Hannan and Freeman, 1977) but they concentrate on institutional isomorphisms, namely coercive, mimetic and normative (DiMaggio and Powell, 1983, 91b). Coercive isomorphism stems from general expectations in the organisation’s domain. There are two forms - authority or coercive power (Scott 1987, 91). As there continues to exist a surge in the organization of sporting events coupled with the demand for volunteers, event organizers must concern themselves with utilizing the appropriate recruitment and retention strategies. In an effort to do this, one must understand the points of satisfaction for volunteers as well as factors influencing their future intentions to volunteer. While there exists a plethora of research to understand the motivation of volunteers, exploring the antecedents of volunteer satisfaction as well as intent to remain has been limited. This study investigates the factors influencing volunteer satisfaction as well as intentions to remain as a volunteer for future sporting events from an elite men’s golf event on the Professional Golf Association (PGA) circuit. Results indicated that overall volunteers were satisfied with their experience and willing to return yet were concerned with the level of communication between the organization and volunteers. Through hierarchical linear modeling we are able to control for firm-specific and issue-specific characteristics and test whether country-specific institutional characteristics add explanatory power to explain the level of underpricing. Our results show that about 10% of the variation in the level of underpricing is between countries. The quality of a country’s legal framework, as measured by its level of investor protection, the overall quality of its legal system and its level of legal enforcement, reduces the level of underpricing significantly. I will cites some examples and then summarize my input. The one person that readily comes to mind as an effective decision maker is one of my instructors, Mr. Randolph. I will share a few examples for my arriving at this conclusion. During the previous instruction quarter, Mr. Randolph was my instructor for IT221, Microsoft Operating Systems I. What impressed me mostly about Mr. Randolph was his display of absolute confidence. He was always dressed to the tee. He spoke with authority and complete competence. It was obvious that he was comfortable and in his element. He steered the group from one phase of learning to the next quite efficiently. When it was apparent that the class was veering off track, he would bring us back on line quickly. He accomplished this with the utmost of professional decorum. If a class member became disruptive, Mr. Randolph would diffuse the situation quickly and without apparent offense. When it can to determining the best learning path to take, He was not at all squeamish about making a decision. ...Reflection on the Concept of Leadership When I think of the concept of leadership I see someone whom has the desire and the willingness to lead a group of people, department or organization to success. Success is typically not a smooth nor an easy road. There are many ups, downs and bumps along the way to achieving success. Making a difference is what sets one apart as a leader. One must have courage and confidence in what they believe makes them a strong leader. Even if a leader has the above characteristics they can still be unsuccessful if they are not able to build trust and confidence among their team. One can be a great leader, but without credibility among those whom follow, leadership will not exists. Guarding and protecting ones credibility is essential in leadership. (DePree, M 1997) Inspiration is important as well and will assist in overcoming setbacks as well as solving problems. When a leader inspires people they assist them to see a better future. The concept of leadership is not something that is only learned. I believe that one is born with leadership qualities and has to work to attain the credibility to reach their potential. ...Weekly Journal Date: 12/15/14 Day: Monday Time: 3:40 pm I didn’t get anything done on the project this weekend. I hope the other team members fared better than I did. I did look over the project management reference guide. I better understanding of what’s expected for the capstone. The reason I didn’t get much done was because I was getting stuff ready for Christmas. Every time I thought I was finished, I’d get another call saying I need more help. I thought I’d only be busy on Thursday, but that didn’t work out. I got a call on Friday and Saturday as well. I should’ve got started yesterday but that wasn’t happening either, football Sunday. So I guess I’ll have to make it up this weekend. This project is going to be difficult. It entails a lot of work. We have to come up with a project name, which we haven’t done yet. We have to have a risk management plan, a change management plan, a quality management plan, and a project charter. All of which is going to take careful planning and a lot of research. Hopefully we will be able to come to the same conclusions on how this should be laid out, financed and implemented. I think we have a pretty good group of people, Clinton, Stephanie, I, and Said I think. I’m confident that Mr. Swope will give us all the help we’ll need. Looking back, it is clear now that hypnosis has been around for many centuries and the use of hypnotic states can be traced back to Shamans or Witch Doctors. In the 1700’s Franz Anton Mesmer produced his theory of “animal magnetism” in which he believed healing forces could be transferred through “cosmic fluid” there is no evidence to support the transfer of the healing energies devised by Mesmer but his success rate was high which lead to his patients being described as “mesmerized” and mesmerism is an early forerunner for modern day hypnosis. Many theories utilising a hypnotic state then followed but it was not until an English physician called James Braid (1795-1860) giving mesmerism a scientific explanation of a “nervous sleep” introducing the word hypnosis derived from the Greek word for sleep Hypnos. Many theories evolved from this view and hypnosis eventually gained acceptance as a naturally occurring phenomenon. In the 1950’s hypnosis began a renaissance as it became recognized for the therapeutic potential in the fields of behavior modification and healing.
