Take What Is Yours

...Take What is Yours At the present time I am no longer employed but previously when I worked for a large conglomerate the evaluation system we implemented after we merged all our companies was based on several key areas. The Human Resources Manager and myself put together a system after gathering what was bring used at each division we purchased and felt what was best and most contusive to the review process for the individual and the companies and made one standard form. I was involved because I was in the operations department and was highly involved in all the companies and dealt with every employee and knew their needs and concerns and addressed them as needed. We made sure that each employee was able to voice their opinions, their accomplishments, needs, concerns and what they wanted to see for the growing family of companies that were uniting and what areas could be implemented. First we thought it would be helpful to have the employee and the supervisor each fill out an evaluation report. The employees on themselves, which is why it is so critical to keep copies of their work, email, and milestones to use as examples during there review process. We asked them what types of teamwork they participated in, what initiative it took and how they participated in the team projects and what type of work they did outside of their job scope, if they added to their job description and learned anything more and contributed more knowledge to the position and......

Humen Resource Management

...1. What do you think is causing some of the problems in the bank’s home office and branches? There is clearly a problem with communication, and the effects are felt in the area of employee commitment.   Additional contributing factors include the lack of   consistency in the policies and procedures of various locations.   There is no cohesiveness to the staffing activities of this Organization. Clearly the absence of an HR department in the main office is behind many of if not all of these problems. What do you think is causing some of the problems in the bank’s home office? 1. Ruth Johnson who has been working at the bank’s head office for last two months did not know what the machine she is using is called or what is does. That shows that the bank did not give her sufficient training to familiarize herself with the name and the function of the machine. However, she did know how the machine works, but this doesn’t mean that she has been trained properly. A huge problem in the bank’s home office is the lack of a proper Training program. It can be an in-house training program especially designed for the new employees at the bank or a practical on-the-job training program. This will give new employees the change to practice, observe others, ask questions, learn from mistakes and familiarize themselves with the equipment that they are using. It is very important for the bank to utilize its available resources. In this case the supervisor could have given her proper,......

What Is Politics and Why Is It Important?

...What is politics and why is it important? “Politics” is a word that poses a multitude of meanings because of its international character. It originated from ancient Greece from the greek word for a city state which in terms originates from the word for community. It meant the “matters of the city”. Through the years and into the different languages its meaning drifted apart to some extent. In general this word is associated with the governing process. The way society is being ruled and the way people are being influenced and molded to believe in their representatives and their ideals and goals. This idea explains politics more as a tool for a one-way communication between the governor, whether he is the president of the republic or of the company or any other executive member that has power over a collective, and said collective. Being a one-way channel, this leads to the easy abuse of the method and the present day “bad ring” to the word. Even so this does not diminish the importance of “Politics”. Politicians and politics serve a vital role in society because, love them or hate them, in the current state of the international, or at least, local, community no other alternatives exist for the healthy life of a civilizations. Leaders and their one way communication will always exist at least for now. This is why politics is so important for us. The mentioned abuse of the system only occurs due to its reliance on trust. This explains why it so easily corruptible. It......

What Makes a Team Click

...What Makes a Team Click? SOC110 May 14, 2014 What Makes a Team Click? * Teams assemble with the interest of obtaining a particular goal. Whatever that goal may be, there are motives as to why we choose to join a team. To stay in a team and also choose to leave the team. As Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs suggest, there are motivating factors that move members to work together in groups, and they categorize into two groups. Satisfiers' and Motivators. The authors, Engelberg & Wynn, state that satisfiers' have the most basic needs like physiological and safety needs. Motivators are higher-level needs such as self- actualization, belongingness, and esteem needs (2011). For members with belongingness needs, a group provides a sense of belonging, by providing friendship opportunities and members find that they identify with others. Groups can also satisfy members with esteem needs, these needs are met through success and member satisfaction. Working in groups gives these members a sense of worthiness and that their contribution matters. Therefore, member motivation is necessary to fuel group performance and achieve successful collaboration. On the other hand, sometimes motives can also have a negative effect on collaboration. When individual motives such as esteem, belongingness, and self-actualization needs are not met they eventually create affective conflict. Within our group, it seems that these motives aren’t existent. Being that were so new to becoming a team......

Showing Your Team What Urgent Looks Like

...Case Study: Showing Your Team What Urgent Looks 1. What issues got addressed in the key steps? The first issue was the adhering to the schedule. The team had a review and analysis session and came to the conclusion that deadlines and deliverables weren’t viewed with a sense of urgency and triggered a delayed chain of action. They also analyzed the impact this had on sales. The next issue the team noticed was management’s testing was out-of-date and undisciplined. Consulting seasoned employees, the team created a new comprehensive template for a weekly schedule that listed test cases and documented completion criteria. The “we’ll just finished tomorrow” attitude changed to “no one goes home until we’re finished”. Another issue was lack of leadership or a specific person who made sure that anything and everything was done or in place to keep on schedule. Our text asserts that a schedule “enables a project manager to monitor and control progress as work proceeds (p.14).” However, a project needs to be monitored on all levels. There was no such appointed person, someone was accountable and made sure that anything and everything was done or in place to keep on schedule. This project used a tip our text refers to a in its list of elements of a realistic schedule as “Provide clear visibility of the projects key deliverables (p. 24).” The team had a quite literal take and created a 4 x 8 whiteboard that to create a clear and very noticeable schedule to be reviewed......

Learning History Is Important. What Is Your Opinion?

...Learning history is important. What is your opinion? “History shows native culture of every country” said by Charles Darwin. Thus, many governments make history to be required subject in school. Therefore, it is firmly agreed that learning history is dominant as it enhance the spirit of nationalism and knowledge of people in that country. History is essential to be learned because it makes citizens respect their nationality. Learning history shows how the ancestors struggled to protect the country. For instance, in the time of the fifth king of Thailand, England and France had been threatening Malaya island such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippine. The King negotiated with England and France that Thailand would be buffer state between England and France. However, Thailand still lost many things to them such as Samui Island and three million baht which was too much at that time. therefore, the citizens who learn that story shall feel respect to their nationality. Learning history is important to make one to be knowledgeable while protecting and improving oneselves. To identify, learning about economic crisis which happened in the past can protect one from mistakes which may happen again. In addition, learning history can improve the ability to learn how the ancestors saved their companies from being bankrupt and adjust that method appropriate with the present time. When the one have more historical knowledge it is not only help one in the work place but also help one in......

Get Your Team to Do What It Says It’s Going to Do

...Get Your Team to Do What It Says It’s Going to Do by Heidi Grant Halvorson Say you’re in the early stages of planning your department’s budget for the next fiscal year. Your management team meets to establish short-term priorities and starts to think about longer-term resource allocation. You identify next steps and decide to reconvene in a week—but when you do, you find that very little progress has been made. What’s the holdup? Your to-dos probably look something like this: Step 1: Develop a tentative budget for continuing operations. Step 2: Clarify the department’s role in upcoming corporate initiatives. Those steps may be logical, but they’re ineffective because they omit essential details. Even the first one, which is relatively straightforward, raises more questions than it answers. What data must the team gather to estimate requirements for continuing operations? Who will run the reports, and when? Which managers can shed additional light on resource needs? Who will talk to them and reconcile their feedback with what the numbers say? When will that happen? Who will assess competing priorities and decide which trade-offs to make? When? Creating goals that teams and organizations will actually accomplish isn’t just a matter of defining what needs doing; you also have to spell out the specifics of getting it done, because you can’t assume that everyone involved will know how to move from concept to delivery. By using what motivational scientists call if-then......

To What Extent Are Domestic Energy Resources Important in Determining the Energy Security of Countries?

...(b) To what extent are domestic energy resources important in determining the energy security of countries? (15) To have energy security means to have access to reliable and affordable energy sources. E.g. Russia and their natural gas reserves. Countries/regions/localities that do not haver this are said to be energy insecure. E.g. Rural communities in Zimbabwe or the UK winter fuel allowance for the elderly is a recognition of fuel poverty. Domestic energy resources refers to the energy produced from a primary product, within the country. It may be seen that domestic energy resources are important in determining the energy security of the country. This may be because countries that rely on exported energy from other countries are more vulnerable to political issues. An example of this is the Russia-Ukraine dispute over prices of gas. On 31st December 2008, Russia and Ukraine hadn't come to an agreement on the price Russia would pay for transit through Ukraine, and the price Russia would charge Ukraine for the gas. This led to a halt in gas transit, when Russia decided to cut supplies off on New Year's Day, 2009. EU depends on Russia for a quarter of its gas supplies, in which 80% is pumped through Ukraine. When supplies were cut off, many countries down the line were affected. A country particularly affected was Bulgaria, who relies on some 80% of their gas imports. Bulgaria said, at the time of the incident, that they only had sufficient supplies ‘for a few days’. It......

What Mechanisms Do You Use to Protect Your Limited Attention Resources?

...What mechanisms do you use to protect your limited attention resources? Our mechanisms that we use to control attention are unconscious processes. An example would be a person can ignore many aspects of stimuli that aren’t important (this is selective attention). People also learn to divide (this is divided attention) between tasks that are being done at the same time such as listening to music and talking on the phone. How do you solve problems with limited attention? When a person is trying to solve a problem his or her attention will be given to reaching a solution or a goal. During problem solving a person’s attention will be focused on the representation of the problem at hand (Sternberg, 2003). According to Sternberg, problems are represented in a number of ways that include spatial, mathematical, as well as verbal. If the problem is mathematical, it might me in the form of flowcharts, facts, equations, graphs, number and so on. People will solve problems by selective heuristics (this is mental shortcut) by basing the likelihood of the event being similar to another event. What role do schemas play in attention? A schema is a cognitive framework that helps a person to organize and interpret information (Sternberg, 2003). When there is a mental activity, schema relates to attention that is associated to the way a person perceives, thinks, interprets, and focuses on information. An example of this would be Brown & Dittmar (2005) studied the results of varied...

What Is Really Important to America

...Phoenix Comm 215 Dr. Thomas Chamberlain What’s really important to America oil or our future? In today’s world, trying to remember exactly what is important is more of a challenge then it sounds. With the consent changes in the economy for good and bad, environmental issues and the ever so important war on terror as a result the leadership in this country is constantly of scrutiny and being told its not doing the jog we elected them to do. We never really stop and ask ourselves what is really important to us as a country and a people, and what can we do to help the government get those tasks done. The economy is not in the best of shape and unemployment is at a high like never before and the leadership is busy pointing the finger and off putting blame on the adjacent dept. or political party. And yet we can only focus on the oil spills and the cleanup. With the recent hike in crime in the nation due mainly to the unemployment that has plagued America for the last couple of years, and the threat of families losing their homes, who is at fault is at very least not important or relevant at all. Public perception about the economy is of great importance in politics and how it is conducted. Take for instance what is stated on the option and attitude forming factor of perception over reality the American public uses to form a decision about the economy.......
