Of the two scenarios presented in Task 1 I focused on scenario 2 in a second grade classroom. A typical second grade classroom will have children ranging in age from 6 to 8. Per the scenario, at the beginning of the year Mr Collet verbally explains his homework policy and gives his students handouts for themselves and their parents with all of the information. If you do not have a consistent late work policy, your students will notice. Students who turn their work in on time will be upset and those who are consistently late will take advantage of you. The key to an effective late work and make up work policy is your daily enforcement. Once you pick what you want for you policy, then stick to it. Only by your consistent actions will this become one less worry in your school day. If so, did Robert half “breach that duty?” Why or Why not? According to the law of negligence, temporary agencies should follow the duty policy on background check on pre-employment, in order not to satisfy an element of negligence. In case of Robert Half International Inc., and Fox Associates, Inc., I don’t think, that duty was breached, the company trusted to provided information by Ms. Ross about herself, and she got good recommendations from her former employers. It should have a purpose with a goal. And as I mentioned in the Behavioral Approach to Learning, homework should NEVER be given as punishment. The kid will associate homework with punishment. This may interest you. Harris Cooper (1998) analyzed more than 100 research studies on homework in American schools. He found that homework had a very small connection with test scores at the elementary level. If anything, the more homework an elementary school student had, the more negative their attitude was toward school. Kids need to have down time too! Why does homework have such a small effect at the elementary level? One reason is that young children have limited attention spans and are very distractible. ...Homework is an issue that affects both students and teachers on a daily basis. As teachers we must expect great things from our students and for our students to achieve great things, we need them to study and do work at home to help emphasize new information and concepts being taught in the classroom. Teachers must teach self- motivation and actively engage their students to do homework and study on a nightly basis. For students as well as their families homework can often be seen as chore that they must find time for between afterschool activities, their parents work schedules, and just wanting to play. Teachers must find just the right balance of homework to help reinforce what is being taught in the classroom while allowing for family time as well as accommodating the busy schedules many American’s face. Ms. Zalogwe has a zero-tolerance homework policy due to problems with students and homework in the past. She clearly lays out the policy at the beginning of the year and sends parents a handout so that they are also informed of her policies. It is important as a teacher to clearly explain to students as well as their parents exactly what is expected from them. I do believe a teacher should allow for some flexibility in their homework policies, while at the same time teaching self-motivation.
