Lab 1.1: GUI vs. Console Programming

1. What similarities do you see between the two programs?

The similarities that I see between the two programs are the way the answers are displayed. Both applications use a monitor. The monitor of a computer is an essential output device that allows you to understand all the tasks that a computer does. Without a monitor you can't see web pages, videos or work on a document.

2. What differences do you see between the two programs?

Console applications use text-based program output and keyboard entered user input. Console applications can be faster once the user has learned the system. Command-line interfaces are better for more complex actions, which you want to repeat (and possibly automate) and when you need to operate with many objects. A command line interface typically displays a prompt, and the user types a command, which is then executed. Ina text-based environment, such as a command line interface, programs determine the order in which things happen.

GUIs use a graphical window or windows that provide interaction with the user. GUI's accept input from both the keyboard and a mouse, and a variety of other input devices. GUIs are better for using direct manipulation, and for using the selected object to narrow down the range of possible actions. GUIs take more advantage of our ability to quickly perceive and interact with images. In a GUI environment the user determines the order in which things happen. Because GUI programs must respond to the actions of the user, it is said that they are event-driven. The user causes events to take place, such as the clicking of a button, and the program must respond to the…...

What differences do you see between the two programs? The differences I see are the box setup and themes. 3. What input devices are used in the GUI and console programs? GUI features Mouse pointers, icons, and menus to allow the user a point and click environment. The console programming will create console applications in order to focus on the programming logic behind coding. 4. What output devices are used in the GUI and console programs?  Device contexts, or simply DCs, provide a machine-independent view of various display and printer devices allowing an application to write data to a single "device" yet have that information appear properly on a multitude of different real-world devices....

...our world changed dramatically on September 11, 2001. Our sense of safety, security, and certainty were altered, perhaps for years to come, perhaps for the rest of our professional lives. Although it is clear that our personal, political, and business environments have all been altered, it is not immediately clear how they have been changed; this is, it is not clear what the details of these changes will be, or how we must respond. We now live in a period of greater strategic uncertainty. This brief paper summarizes the results of two workshops held by the Reginald H. Jones Center that attempted to provide some insight into the origins of the current conflict that the U.S. faces in the Middle East, as religious (Islam vs. the West) or economic (the developed West vs. the developing Middle East), or a clash of cultures, or some other form not as yet identified1. The hope was that by developing an understanding of the origins of the conflict, we would develop some insights into the form of the conflict and its duration; this in turn would lead to an understanding of the business implications that might result and strategies that might provide appropriate responses in different strategic contexts. We faced a high level of uncertainty about what had happened and what was likely to happen next, which determined the structure of our workshop. Recent events continue to underscore the importance of this analysis. Defeating the Taliban may not solve our problems with Al Qaeda.......

Wii Console

...can you find me now? How is a Nintendo Wii game console able to determine the location of a Wii Remote while a player interact with a game? The answer is triangulation, a process that determines the location of an object by measuring the angles from two or more fixed points. Surveyors often use triangulation to measure distance. Starting at a known location and elevation, surveyors measure a length to create a base line and then use a theodolite to measure an angle to an unknown point from each side of the base line (Jains 30-48). The length of the base line and the two known angles allow a computer or person to determine the location of a third point. Similarly, the Nintendo Wii game console uses triangulation to determine the location of a Wii Remote. A player places a sensor bar, which contains two infrared transmitters, near or on top of a television. While the player uses the Wii Remote, the Wii game console determines the remote’s location by calculation the distance and angles between the Wii remote and the two transmitters on the sensor bar. Determining the location of a Wii Remote is relatively simple because the sensor bar contains only two fixed points: the transmitters. A more complex application of triangulation occurs in a global positioning system (GPS). A GPS consists of one or more earth-based receivers that accept and analyze signals sent by satellites to determine a receiver’s geographic location. GPS receivers, found in handheld navigation devices and......

Pc Gaming vs. Console

...In 1972, the first gaming console named “Odyssey” was released by Magnavox. For the next 20 years, the battle between Pc and console gaming would be dominated by the console. Since then, the gaming universe has evolved in ways leaving the modern consumer confused on which platform is right for them. With the options available for gaming today, there are many factors to take under consideration. The cost of today’s console is $500; whereas, a decent gaming Pc can cost anywhere from $1,000 - $1,500. The cost of games are similar on both platforms, which is approximately $60. Pc games tend to go on sale more frequently than console games. Ease of use should also be considered. Consoles are for whom the gaming community calls “Lazy-Boy Gamer’s”; meaning, turn on the console, relax in a lazy-boy recliner and play games. This is made possible due to the use of a controller. Pc gaming uses a mouse and keyboard to play games, so the user will be sitting at a desk in an upright position which can be uncomfortable over long periods of time. When it comes to graphics, Pc’s have no competition. With more processing power with a Pc, most games run at 60-120FPS (frames per second) while consoles today only run at approximately 30FPS. Frames per second refers to how many frames is rendered onto a screen per second, the higher amount the better. With the graphics capabilities comes a price. The maintenance that is involved with sustaining performance can be challenging for some. Software......

...Unit 5 Exercise 1 security By Robert George From: Systems Admin To: Manager Internet security is important because Security Unauthorized Network Access or Hacking Unauthorized access is one of the major threats as far as Internet safety is concerned. Network security consists of the provisions made in an underlying computer network infrastructure, to protect the network and the network-accessible resources from unauthorized access. Windows Firewall is on by default in Windows 7, so you don't need to set it up—plus they have made it more flexible and easier to use. You may want to block all incoming connections. At the workstations, this might be overkill. Whatever level of protection you choose for your profiles, you'll be able to switch between them with ease. An easy way of protecting files from theft or hackers is Bitlocker for windows 7 Bitlocker protects your programs and passwords by encrypting the entire drive that windows and your data resides on. Another way is having parental control on your desktops to help keep viruses and Trojans off your pc. Also Using Microsoft Security Essentials helps guard against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software it provides real-time for your workstation p c’s it is also free and easy to use. Plus it won’t interrupt you work because it’s a quit program. Which brings us to windows defender witch is your first line of defense against spyware and other unwanted software. And in Windows 7, it's easier to use, with simpler...

...respectively the home consoles. With the big tech giants Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo out with their latest piece of hardware out in the market, there are some similarities and differences that each platform can provide to the gamer such as in features, games, and online experience. Physical and virtual features are a key factor in helping attract the attention of their respective fan base; however, each company applies different features to their respective consoles. In similarities, all three consoles have access to at least 2 USB ports and the ability to connect to the web Wi-Fi. Each platform also has a similar hardware content right out of the box: a main system, a handheld controller, and an HDMI port and cable to connect to the TV. All three devices also support 720p and 1080p resolution for an amazing graphical experience (IGN). There are some features that only two consoles may share or is exclusively on just one. Both Nintendo’s Wii U and Sony’s PS4 integrate Bluetooth connectivity between the main system and the handheld controller while Microsoft’s Xbox One uses infrared or IR. Wii U and Xbox One owners can insert an external storage device into the hardware as long as it meets certain specifications stated by the company. Both Xbox One and PS4 are able to use cloud storage, a service that allows gamers to store additional game data that would be too big to save in the hard drive. While the hard drives in both the Xbox and PlayStation consoles have a......

Gui vs Console

...Sam Strickland #12577467 Intro to Programming PT1420T Lab 1.1 GUI vs. Console When we look at GUI vs Console, we can see similarities as well as differences. These are usually found in the functionality of both types. Both of them run and execute programs that are installed on their OS. If you enter the command thru either GUI or console, you get the same result. The only difference between these two is the way we, as the user, see it. When using GUI (Graphic User Interface) you actually see some kind of icon or other visual. Usually there is a window or some other way of showing the user that they are in whatever program they execute. If you use the console, it feels like you are back in the 80’s. But if you know the right commands and the right syntax then the user is capable of executing the same programs as if they were using GUI. On the outside they look as different as they are. One has a window or some icon that lets you click a few times and you can execute your file. The “old school” command line is still a good input tool and is still used today in programming and other networking uses. They say it’s easier and faster to execute a command thru the command line but I believe that it’s easier thru GUI. Some people are more adept to learning thru GUI for executing certain commands. But I also think that some commands are better given at the command line. Only because that is how I was taught to view certain information when using a PC....

...LINUX GUI Roy Dean Jr CIS/255 12 JUL 15 Keagan Samuel Introduction What is a GUI exactly? A GUI is known as a graphical user interface that provides a way to interact with a computer system by choosing items from menus or manipulating pictures drawn on a display screen instead of typing command lines. (Sobell 2014) Now in this day and age we have many options of what we want our computers to do and with Linux there is also options of how we want them to look and run. Primary advantages of GUI over textual interface in Linux One of the primary advantages of GUI over textual interfaces is that, with a GUI you are not restricted to using just characters. A GUI is probably more an advantage for a new user and maybe easier to navigate than the more specific textual interface. Using a GUI is faster than textual interface and this helps people that need to get certain tasks done in a quicker manner. With pictures, menus, and etc. makes it a lot easier for people to see and comprehend than typing in lines of text to make things happen all the time. Fedora/Red Hat Enterprise Linux GUI desktop managers With options at with desktop managers, this gives a user a chance to get the feel of which one is right for them. ...Windows GUI In the present day, relatively each person in the urbanized world at some point interrelate with some type of computers. Computers are utilized at home and at work, for amusement, information source, and as apparatus to leverage comprehension and aptitude. It is understood whenever any person sits down to use a computer and/or workstation that it will function with some type of graphical user interface. It is expected to interact with it mainly by use of a mouse, initiates programs by clicking on icons, and controls an assortment of windows on the screen using graphical controls. But this was not always the case. Why did computers come to implement the GUI as their most important method of interaction in our day? According to TechTarget (2011), GUI is an acronym for Graphical User Interface, what mainframe types call the system of icons, taskbars, and other objects that computers used to exhibit and access information (p.1). Reminiscent of a lot of progress in regards to the history of computing, some of the thoughts for a GUI computer were thought way before the technology was even obtainable to fabricate such a device. One of the first people to express this thought was Vannevar Bush. In the 1930s, he wrote of a device called "Memex," which he visualized a desk with two touch screen graphical displays and a keyboard. It would permit the end-user to access the knowledge by means of a correlation that is very similar to how hyperlinks work. At......

Ps 3 vs Other Console

...In the time since the release Sony has made numerous attempts at turning around sales. One of the biggest moves was to drop the price drastically. This gave a lot of consumer’s confidence to spend their money on the system. Some consumers rationalize the purchase as a reasonably priced Blu-ray DVD player. Sony also introduced a new peripheral that emulates a lot of the functionality of the Nintendo Wii’s “Wii-mote”, which will most likely sway new buyers away from Wii. Sony has also built a library of very popular games that was a major weak point at the time around release. While many of these moves are a step in the right direction, they were almost expected. For Sony to truly bring back the following they once had with the Play Station 1 and 2, they need to go back to the fundamental mentality of game content. Many of the popular games are now released for all three systems (PS 3, Xbox, Wii), which makes the unique value of having PS3 limited. Sony needs to help developers create highly unique and innovative games that are exclusive to the Playstation 3. While there are a handful of name titles that are sole residents on the PS 3, they do not have the ability to build the brand loyalty in game products that PS 3 needs to convert consumers. Wii has also created opportunity in the market, as they have expanded the consumer market drastically. Sony needs to capitalize on this by creating an alternative brand image that caters to the family and casual gamers that the Wii...
