Film Viewer Opinion Paper

...Film Viewer Opinion Paper Introduction to Film Studies With all the movies that are made not all will make it to the top. I can see where low budget movies what make the cut like most main stream movies do. But Low budget can be better than some main stream movies as long as it has a good story line. This paper I will discuss how I decide on movies I watch. Than give my opinion on what makes a movie enjoyable/unenjoyable to me when I’m watching them? When deciding on a movie to watch or go to it is a hard one if more than one good movie is on TV or playing in the theater. Movies all the times come out and making a decision to watch one takes some reading or watching of the trailer. But I will also decide if the movie will make me laugh, bored with it, or sit at the edge of my chair if I will watch it or not. The final things that will help me decide to watch the movie or not are the actors/actresses that are playing in the movie. To give my opinion on what makes a movie enjoyable what does the movie have to offer? For me an enjoyable movie has to offer many things laughter, a good story line, and action. I enjoy movies with great actor/actresses, but they must have a role that fits them. Adam Sandler, Jim Carry these are a couple of actors that I enjoy watching their movies they can make me laugh from the start of the movie. A movie with good music, if music fits the movie it makes it enjoyable since music draws people in. But even though movies can be enjoyable they...

Film Viewer Opinion Paper

...Film Viewer Opinion Paper HUM/150 December 01, 2012 Film Viewer Opinion Paper In this paper I will talk about why I choose this film. With the Movie Schindler’s List your imagination has no limits while watching it. Schindler’s List might just be one of worst movies to watch because of the horrific events that happened to the Jewish people during World War Two. A businessman named Oskar Shindler goes to a new city in Nazi-occupied Poland with the dreams of making a lot of money off the Nazis by making products with Jewish slave labor. After starting the plant Oskar start to understand what the Nazis are doing to the Jewish people and then starts to help them save their lives. I would have to say I do not think there is nothing enjoyable about the movie but was a great movie. Even with the horrific and terror on the people it was meant to be done for the reason that to give it a documentary-style of cinematography and the timeless sense of the film (Wikipedia, 2012). It was the understanding of ones love of historical films which make it enjoyable to watch. This is one of the best films ever that conveyed the real horror of the Holocaust by the Nazis. “Schindler's List blends the abject horror of the Holocaust with Steven Spielberg's signature tender humanism to create the director's dramatic masterpiece” (Rotten Tomatoes 2012). The violence in Schindler’s List is unenjoyably, which makes a lasting impression on you after watching the movie. The violence in the......

Reaction Paper on Csr Film Viewing

...Leianne M. Jacinto September 24, 2012 ------------------------------------------------- MBA REACTION PAPER #1 Management, when studied and applied has a broad spectrum. Not only do we have to consider the profit of an organization, but we also have to consider whether an organization and their production of goods lead to meeting the needs of the common good efficiently and effectively. Based on Peter Drucker’s Agency theory, “Management is the organ of institutions; one which converts a mob into an organization, and human efforts into performance.” This basically speaks of the skills and competencies of the workers and their effectiveness and efficiency to give an output that meets the desired and quality accepted outcome. During our first meeting, we were asked which one between effectiveness and efficiency will we prioritize provided that circumstances come. Sure, both are significant in accomplishing a goal but in the event that we have to prioritize one, which one will be it? I remember answering efficiency because based on my experience as a nurse; we cannot achieve effectiveness without being efficient with a certain task. We were taught about being efficient in every nursing skill that we do because we are dealing with the lives of the people. In contrast to my nursing background, I further understood that in business, sometimes the priority is effectiveness because in an organization,......

Summer of Love - Film Paper

...“Summer of Love” Film Paper The documentary film Summer of Love is about the year of 1967 when the children from the baby boom generation had grown up and were now in their college years, but instead of going to school chose instead to change the world. These young people had grown up experiencing the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, men constantly being drafted into the Vietnam War which was killing more than one hundred soldiers per week, and the civil rights struggles. There continued to be a deep anxiety about communism taking over the United States and the threat of atomic weapon. A part of that generation came to be known as “hippies,” who thought that they could bring change to the world by spreading peace and love. The Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco, California was a small and low-income area for modern families to live, until January 14, 1967 when there was a “coming together” and the Haight-Ashbury district became the home of modern jazz, hippies, communal living, and turning to drugs as a new way of living. Music began to change, LSD and acid became a way of life, food was served free, furniture and clothes were being distributed at no cost to people, and money became the root of all evil. They thought they could make the world into what they wanted by acting it out, but the hippies were extremely unwelcomed by the long-time residents. When spring break came around people, especially kids, from all over the country were visiting......

Film History Paper Summary

...sensationalism, allowing him to make a name for himself in the film world as a source of artistic and technical innovations. Perhaps known best for his controversial film, Birth of a Nation, he has been applauded and crucified by modern historians and analysts regarding his creative practices and basically, spread of racial stereotypes to early film audiences. The denigration of his work by modern scholars lies mainly within the characters and racial tensions that were perpetuated on-screen as a result of his conceptual character options. However, in many of his early films that were produced at the Biograph Company, Griffith initiated exposure for gender, racial and ethnic groups that were largely ignored and propelled these issues to the forefront of the public eye. Griffith should be celebrated as a filmmaker that used controversy to provoke thought regarding issues of race, class and gender, and certainly his other films have the teaching capability that Birth of a Nation is commonly utilized for. There are several other pieces that were produced by Griffith that are symbolic of public attitudes and accurate representation of society near the turn of the twentieth century. These works should be celebrated as primary resource materials, and therefore used in classrooms to teach political, racial and social issues to students that wish to study such concepts. The evidence for this theory lies not only in his films, but in the behind-the-scenes production occurrences,......

...Film Elements EAT PRAY LOVE AND SHANE After watching the first 5 minutes of Eat Pray Love and Shane I would be able to guess what Shane concern would be. I wouldn’t be able to guess about Eat Pray and Love only because it starts off one way and seems to venture into a different direction. In the movie Shane, its music suggests that the movie would have a combination of different emotional qualities. The beginning music starts off as happy and then it becomes serious and adventures. It then goes back to serious and happy. There is also a touch of sadness in one part of the movie. The movie Eat Pray Love the music starts of upbeat and happy and that continues for awhile. It then turns into being serious and somewhat happy at the same time. The characters that was introduced in the beginning of Eat Pray Love tells us that the theme of the movie is going to be based on them trying to figure out what they should do in life. It seems as though the main character Liz have issues with things that are going on in her life and starts to analyze her life on what the doctor told her at the beginning of the movie. The main characters husband and her publisher would be two characters that we will be viewed more in a distance. In the movie Shane there were four characters introduced in the beginning, Mr. & Mrs. Starks, their son Joey and Shane. There also were the Riders. I believe that Shane would be the main characters whose eyes we will view the movie through. The Starks are......

Film Analysis-Final Paper

...Biographical Films Jenna Nelson December 12, 2014 JASS 248 Professor Erik Marshall Analysis Essay-The Five Heartbeats; The Film Genre of Biopics The Five Heartbeats (1991), directed by Robert Townsend, is a movie that I know all too well. This film effectively portrays the highs and the lows of the music industry and how it affects the members of a group. In this essay, I will analyze the cinematography, mis-en-scéne and the importance of music in films such as this one. I will also expound upon the genre of biographical films and how they contribute to society. Biographical films, or “biopics” represents the life history of an actual person or group. Unlike documentary film, biopics employ actors to play the roles of these individuals: they are dramatized, fictional films. Biopics are often marketed as being “inspired by” or “based on” the lives of famous people including entertainers, royalty, scientists and even criminals. Dennis Bingham conducted a study on biographical films and discusses and history of the biography. He also looks at the various forms of the biopic, including theatrical releases, made-for-television movies and short films. Bingham argues that biopics of women are structured so differently from male biopics as to constitute their own genre. The conventions of the female biopic have proven much more intractable than the male biopic. This is due to society’s difficulty with the very issue of women in the public sphere. The difficulty kept...

Reflection Paper: Film "Heneral Luna"

...Reflection Paper: Film “Heneral Luna” #KM2015 The film, “Heneral Luna”, 2015 is a Filipino historical biopic film about General Antonio Luna. It is indeed one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever seen. The cinematography, cast, writing is really wonderful and realistic, although the language used is not what I expected because it looks too modern. The film shows the point of view of Gen. Antonio Luna in the system of the Philippines in the American invasion period. Furthermore, the movie carries joy, laughter, sorrow, grief, conflicts, and realizations especially when it became an eye opener for me. As an ‘International Studies’ student, it’s typical for us to have some interest in different culture other than us although I never actually detest our culture. However, with this film I observe a lot of admirable actions as well as a lot of flaws in our country all the way from the late 18th century. I also noticed that the Philippine government in the past greatly resembles the government issues in the present, just like how the cabinet members prefers to be under the power of United States to aim more money and superiority in their own state. Gen. Antonio Luna deserves to be one of our heroes. He showed great bravery, intelligence and he also became an inspiration to our fellow men during and even after the war. He really holds superior power and can lead people to follow him. The general also believes that no one is above the law even the highest ranking official or......

Film and Politics: Term Paper Salaam Bombay!

...Film and Politics: Term Paper Salaam Bombay! Directed by Mira Nair in 1988, “Salaam Bombay!” is a fine piece of cinematic art that portrays the unfortunate reality of how life is for street children in Bombay, India. The film makes a brave jump from the typical, happy-go-lucky, capitalist representation of life on the streets, to a more convincing one. Following the daily struggles of children living on the streets of Bombay, this film sheds light on the socio-economic realities of their lives. In this paper, I will analyze “Salaam Bombay!” in terms of its ability to provide a near accurate depiction of urban poverty in India, and the lives of its street children. “Salaam Bombay!” follows the story of a young boy, around the age of twelve, named Krishna. Shortly into the movie we find Krishna living on the streets of the largest city in India, Bombay, surrounded by drug addicts, prostitutes, pimps, and other homeless children like him. Through a conversation Krishna has with a drug addict he befriends, we discover that Krishna was abandoned by his mother at an Apollo Circus where she tells him that he can only come back home once he raises five hundred rupees to pay his brother back for destroying his bicycle. Krishna, named Chaipau by those around him, starts working as a tea deliverer for a local teashop so he can earn enough money to go back home. As the film traces Krishna’s struggles to earn enough money and survive on the streets of Bombay, his story clashes......

Film View Opinion Paper

...In deciding what film to watch depends on the previews or trailers they advertise. This if it catches the eye and looks like it will be entertaining throughout the movie. Going off the reviews of how many stars it has does not always mean it is the best movie to watch. For example how many emmys it has won. This definitely does not mean this movie is a great one to watch. Most of the time they are long and boring. It never really keeps the audience involved thourghout the entire movie. In keeping a audience enjoyable in the film that they are watching, it needs to have a flow to it. The story line to the film has to stay on point on what they are trying to tell someone. If you lose that, then the film ends up being long drawn out and the audience is no longer interested in the film. Keeping the audience on it’s toes will keep them asking fo more through the film. This will help keep the audience involved and easier for the them to follow what is being told to them. The suspense in a film is what keeps the audience asking what’s next and pushing their imagination to the limit. It is making your audience think while watching makes the audience feel they are apart of the film. What makes a film not enjoyable is taking forever to the next point in a film. When the audience is trying to understand the the film and can not make out what the film is truly about. The film maker does not want to drag out the film to the point that the audience has forgotten what the......

Film Adaptation Research Paper

...Kiana Price Professor Healey Research in the Disciplines (From Print to Film) 13 February 2016 Reading The Crucible by Arthur Miller was a thrilling and mesmerizing experience. Every aspect of the play was entertaining. The story of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is less about the tale of the witch hunt and trials. Subsequently, it is more about how the witch hunt and trials take an effect on the communities. Throughout the course of time, when a situation that causes a mass hysteria, people will force themselves to conform in order to place themselves in a safe spot. For instance, during the Salem witch trials, people admitted to “crimes” that they never actually committed, or began accusing others who were once allies (ex. neighbors, friends, etc.) in order to keep themselves in the clear and safe from being hanged or jailed. If one was doing what they could in order to maintain the safety of the community, they earned themselves a safe spot. It was the individuals who were not pointing fingers in order to help out the “witches” that were soon assumed to be subject to the Devil’s influence and were eventually either jailed or hanged (sometimes both). Arthur Miller utilizes John Proctor’s protagonist character in order to show not just what he believed was the right thing to do in a situation such as this one, but to show how difficult it is to sometimes play the role of a nonconformist tackling a much larger group of people. Also, The Crucible shows how mass hysteria...

...Film Critique: INSIDIOUS Intro to Film 225 Vera Baber Instructor: BradWaltman February 12, 2012 If you are looking for a good horror film to sit down and cuddle up with, and you aren’t bent on happy or predictable endings, Insidious is a gem that will not only scare and surprise you, but keep you thinking and without all the blood and gore that most horror films rely on these days. INSIDIOUS is a film about a family who moves into a new home and begins to experience some very strange phenomenon, such as items being moved from one place to another without any explanation. The setting is an old creepy house; with an attic full of items from the past, and which seems to draw people in; first the mother, then the son. The son Dalton ends up falling off of a ladder while playing in the attic. He seems to receive only a minor bump from the fall, but during the night while asleep in his bed, he mysteriously drifts off into a coma and is unresponsive when his parent try to wake him for school. He is then rushed to the hospital emergency room where his condition baffles doctors. They cannot understand why there is no brain damage which is usually accompanied with a coma, but they have no idea what else to call it. He is ultimately sent home to be cared for by his mother with the help of a part-time nurse. It is during this time that the paranormal activity really kicks off in the story. Most of the paranormal occurrences seem to take place during the day while the mother is......
