Corporate Scandal Analysis – Samsung Group

...unethical practices Lee Kun Hee, Chairman of Samsung Group, owned $4.5 billion worth of stock in Samsung Life and Samsung Electronics that were hidden in 1,200 brokerage accounts in the name of former and current executives (3). Such holdings were kept secret to avoid paying hefty taxes. This example of unethical practice is related to conflict of interest that is one of the four related sources of unethical decision making (Mahzarin R. BanajiMax, 2003). Assessing poor internal control The powerful Samsung’s Strategic Planning Office (SPO) arranged an illegal transaction to give the junior Lee and his sister a combined 64% stake in Samsung Everland, which was made a holding company of Samsung Group. Lee Jae Yong and his three sisters paid $9.9 million to exercise warrants converting bonds they held into shares of Samsung Everland at just one-eleventh of the market value. This illegal transaction was caused by the lack of control system to support the code of ethics. The SPO’s employees were not trained to recognize moral issues and to apply the rules or ethical principles in the organization’s code of ethics (CMA). Assessing the dysfunctional behaviours of corporate managers Lee family’s near-absolute control of Samsung’s 59 affiliates ranging from insurance and credit-card services to shipbuilding is one of the main issues in Samsung’s governance system. Lee family’s control via tangled cross-shareholdings of affiliates pushed SPO’s corporate managers to......

...Nattharucha Piamsawat Student No: 5303640576 Reaction paper on Gender Studies Gender and happily ever after Ever since I was little, I have been observing cartoon and fairytale, as it is soothing and full of joy. Mother would read me a bedtime story about Everland, the giant, the witches, and the princess. I have grown along all this beautiful dream within me, yet, being reminded regularly when I watched movies emphasizing how important love is to the existence of human beings. The worse thing is, I do not let this stay as childhood thinking. I grow older but I myself try to consume even more movies and literatures about the same old concept of happiness without realizing that these were poison for me to live in reality. To most of the young girl all over the world as well, I assumed, do not care about how time and way of life has changed so much since the first fairytale was written since the same story is told over and over. The new plots and characters may changed but the concept stays the same. The most well known fairy tale for young girls of all time is, of course, the Walt Disney princesses. Disney is one of the largest media companies which was established by Walt Disney back in 1923. The basic elements of Walt Disney are victory of the good over the evil and to finally find true love equals happily ever after. Despite how long time has passed, one of the originals that was created, which is Cinderella, is still being consume moreover influencing......

The shop was 5 minutes away from the Ski Resort. And there we go, the ski resort. I had fun skiing because I even tried to go up to the 2nd level of the hill. It’s a success for me skiing perfectly for the first time. I can say that this was my favourite part in the itinerary. After skiing, we went to Everland Resort. There, we had our lunch. I really loved the foods in here. We ate Kalbi, which is the Korean barbeque and Bibimbap, mixed rice and vegetables. Within the Everland Resort is the Everland Theme Park. The theme park is huge compared in the theme parks here in the Philippines. I was able to ride three rides and then took pictures afterwards. It was really big that we have to walk very long for us to get to the places we wanted to be. We bought soft ice cream eventhough it’s cold, just to experience it. Meal coupon was given for the dinner. We chose the Oriental restaurant. Though we had a short time in there, I really felt tired because the activities that day involved a lot of energy. We went back to the hotel, enjoy the bath tub again then rested. The next day was a Sunday morning. And as Catholic, we are used of going......
