Eric Employee Eric Employee has worked as a Receiver for Eggsellent Eggs, Inc., a local grocery store chain in Alabama with 200 employees.

He has worked for the company since 2002. His job description is attached below. In 2010, Eric was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a degenerative movement disorder that causes difficulty with walking and muscle weakness. It can also make speech soft and slurred, and can cause “masking,” a condition in which the person’s facial expression appears frozen, as if it were a mask. In its more advanced stages, Parkinson’s Disease can also cause cognitive decline.

In 2012, Eric took FMLA leave to have a surgical procedure that his doctors hoped would alleviate some of his symptoms. He returned to work in June, 2012. Eric’s performance reviews, including his review in June, 2013, have always been satisfactory, and he has exhibited no signs of cognitive decline. However, since Eric’s return from leave, his colleagues have complained to Marvin Manager, the General Manager of Eric’s store, several times about Eric’s “slowness” in moving around at work. Customers and suppliers have also complained that it is difficult to understand Eric both in person and on the phone. Manager did not investigate any of these complaints and did not inform Eric about them. Instead, trying to be kind to Eric, who had been a loyal employee for so long, in September, 2013, Manager gave the responsibility of communicating with customers and suppliers to a stock boy. He gave the responsibility of generating reports and troubleshooting equipment to the Assistant General Manager. Manager did not discuss these decisions with Eric or inform him of them.

In November, 2013, Eric approaches you, the Director of Human Resources, to request “light duty” because he is having difficulty carrying heavy boxes because of his illness. Using what we have learned in class and through the reading materials, as well as Eric’s job description, which is on the next page, please answer the questions below (remember that maximum credit is given for identifying all potential issues, defining all applicable legal rules and applying specific facts to those rules to draw your conclusions): 1. What should you do in response to Eric’s request for “light duty”? Would you grant his request? Why/why not? Please be specific about the factors you would consider and the potential solutions. (50 points) 2. Assume that Eric remains working for Eggsellent Eggs while your supervisors are reviewing your recommendations about Eric’s request. In December, 2013, Manager approaches you to tell you that he would like to terminate Eric because he cannot lift heavy items, does not troubleshoot equipment, generate reports or communicate well with customers. Can Manager legally terminate Eric for any or all of these reasons? Please be specific about the factors you must consider when advising Manager. Why/why not? (50 points)

The female workers range from recent high school graduates in their first job to middle age housewives. After being shown what the tasks of the clerks were when the salesmen called in to request product information and how this information was located and relayed to the salesmen, Eric was soon fascinated by both the efficiency of the operation and the pleasantness of the surroundings. Eric soon realized how mistaken he was about the smooth running of the firm’s operations. The numerous complaints he was receiving from the salesmen in the field about the product information service showed him there were big problems within the organization. He recognized three general problems which were frequent and serious enough to command immediate attention and action. First, salesmen were unable to get through quickly to the information clerks, errors were excessive and clerks were often abrupt and unfriendly to salesmen when they called. As Eric attempted to find the reasons for these problems, he discovered more problems. Absenteeism and turn over were extremely high and when this occurred, temporary......

Eric Foner Freedom

...Eric Foner Second Summary In his chapter ‘Sixties Freedom’ Eric Foner argues about people’s transition of freedom from collective demands towards a more personal value beyond the public spectrum. Besides that, the human rights movement have expanded to different demographics such as white children, women and other minorities. For instance, Martin Luther King’s freedom movement centralizes on integration between races for the benefit of the nation in achieving the same national values. However, Malcolm X insisted black people to be independent and determine to fight for their rights, relying on one’s effort. Secondly, the War Poverty introduced by the Johnson Administration differs from the New Deal as it displayed interventions on a personal level. The denial of direct aid in eradicating poverty is replaced by long terms initiatives such as providing people with new skills, motivating through job training, education and giving access to community programs. Furthermore, the emergence of middle class white people known as The New Left narrowed its concerns regarding the institution from a psychological aspect; powerlessness. The Port Huron Statement emphasized, despite the democratic structure, we are powerless in determining the country’s direction. Eric Birling

...Eric Birling What do you think is the importance of Eric and how does Priestley present him? How does he change throughout the play? At the start of the play we see Eric as a naïve alcoholic who seems to want to follow his father into his rich and successful business. We see Eric as immature and at the start of the play we see his anxiety, as if he knows that something will go wrong that night. As Eric and his family learn more about his shocking relationship with Eva, he seems to undergo a dramatic change in which he accepts responsibility for his vile treatment of Eva and breaks away from the capitalist limitations that his parents have set him. Towards the end of the play we see Eric agree with the inspector, who seems to be the righteous view of morality and also agree with Sheila who has undergone the most dramatic change and has accepted social responsibility forever. In order for us to recognise Eric’s change, his flaws first have to made abundant to the audience. Priestly obliges through the stage directions he set for Eric. He describes him as “not quite at ease” showing that he could be uncomfortable at the prospect of an evening with his mother and father or more likely that he is worried, that events with regards to Eva will be revealed. Priestly also describes Eric as “half shy, half assertive”. This seemingly duel personality, could highlight Eric’s drinking problems, which through drunkenness, has left him unsure of himself and without a set personality.......
