...DRIVERS OF GLOBALIZATION PROCESS The key factors seem to underlie the trend towards the increasing globalization of markets and production: 1. The decline of barriers to trade and investment: Decline in Trade barriers: Many of the barriers to international trade took the form of high tariffs on imports of manufactured goods. However, this depressed world demand and contributed to the great depression of the 1930’s. After World War II, the industrialized countries of the West started a process of removing barriers to the free flow of goods, services, and capital between nations. Under GATT, over 140 nations negotiated even further to decrease tariffs and made significant progress on a number of non-tariff issues (e.g. intellectual property, trade in services). The most recent round of negotiations known as Uruguay round was competed in December 1993. The Uruguay round further reduced trade barriers, covering services as well as manufactured goods provided enhanced protection for patents, trade marks and copyrights and established WTO to police the international trading system. With the establishment of the WTO, a mechanism now exists for dispute resolution and the enforcement of trade laws. Average tariff rates have fallen significantly since 1950’s, and under the Uruguay agreement, they have approached 3.9 % by 2000. This removal of barriers to trade has taken place in conjunction with increased trade, world output, and foreign direct investment. Decline in......

...Advice a G2 driver would give a G1 Driver Some advice I would give a G1 driver would have to be, just because you have your licence does not make you a good driver, writing a test does not make you an experienced driver. You will become experienced after years of driving, even then you aren’t perfect.. so be careful! Make sure you fallow all laws and regulations of the road and always be cautious and alert. You are not the only one you should be concerned about while driving, there are other dangerous cars on the road! Other advice that id give a G1 driver (that probably wasn’t on the G1 test) would be when driving stay at least 4 seconds (a few vehicle lengths) behind each car in case you have to stop suddenly you need that time for your car to stop fully, especially if you have a bigger vehicle as it takes 2x the amount of time to stop. If it’s raining you should stay EVEN further back as it takes a lot longer for you to slow down since the road will be slippery. You should also watch for people who are fallowing to close to you, you should flash your lights to warn the driver to back up or if this doesn’t work switch lanes. Also, I suggest going to a driving school to gain the experience you need and to be a safe driver. When driving if others are going faster then the speed limit & fallow the rules and go slower if you feel more comfortable. Keep your eyes on the road at all time for pedestrians as they can sometimes come out of nowhere! When entering an intersection...

Elderly Drivers

...Elderly Drivers on the Road Elderly Drivers on the Road One thing that’s just as dangerous as a young and jittery, under-aged driver without any previous driving experience or perhaps even an intoxicated driver raging aggressively through numerous traffic lights is the thought of a vision impaired, elderly man or woman cruising nonchalantly through the wrong lane of traffic or driving 50 mph on a major highway. Due to the continuous trend of our older generation engaging in traffic accidents that could have been prevented if the proper precautionary actions were taken, I feel that it is only right those citizens who are driving at or above 70 years of age to be required to pass an annual test for eyesight and physical ability before they can renew their driver’s license. Though they stand at the most experienced end of the driving spectrum, it’s a contradictory fact that elderly folks are involved in far more crashes and highway fatalities than any other age group, after teenage drivers. It’s even more shocking to realize that drivers 80 years of age and above are actually engaged in almost 6 times as many fatal car crashes per miles driven as that of middle-aged drivers. “Although elderly drivers only consist of 9 percent of the population, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics, senior drivers account for roughly 14 percent of all traffic fatalities and 17 percent of all pedestrian fatalities” (ABC News Internet Ventures, 2014, p. 1).......

Drivers

...Drivers Drivers come in many different types, and each has their own characteristics. When driving on the road, one can experience several different kinds of drivers which can be divided into three major categories: bad drivers, good drivers and ugly drivers. Most drivers want to reach their destination as fast as they can. However, not all drivers get there the same way. How they get there depends on which category they fall into. First of all, the bad drivers can be described as the morning mad-honker. These drivers are only experienced in a busy town in the morning. They are characterized by hollering, blowing of the horn, and anger. It is believed that their anger is derived from their procrastination in the morning as they prepare for work. Because they typically run late, they tend to speed and often cut off other drivers in the mornings. They can be observed swerving in and out of lanes in order to get back the time they wasted. In bumper to bumper traffic, they often honk and yell, as if these noises will make the vehicles in front of them move faster. People are not accepting of these kind of drivers because they believe that these bad drivers could cause a possible car accident. Secondly, in contrast to bad drivers are good drivers, who make up the majority of drivers. These drivers can be seen in all places. Because they always obey all the driving laws, they will get to their destination with the least amount of trouble. For example, a good driver is usually......

...transportation will make the roads a safer place. As Anastasia Niedrich states in her article on elderly drivers “Department of transportation statistics report that drivers over seventy-five have the highest rate of pedestrian deaths of any age group”. The death of innocents is an unacceptable price to pay for the transportation freedom of a small group of people. I myself was hit by an elderly drive while ride my bike and was very luck to survive. That being said I don’t think every person over seventy is incapable of driving. But there should be a system in place to separate the capable from incapable. A simple yearly cognitive and visual test to insure the individual still has the necessary skills to competently operate a vehicle. Katherine Siggerud states that “no state uses a screening tool to evaluate physical or mental function”. I think the government needs to change that’s. An alternative for those deemed unfit would be public transportation. But by making it cheaper and more accommodating to the elderly I feel there won’t be as much of an outcry over revoking driving privileges. Larry Lipman say “Losing driving privileges is traumatic” but it doesn’t have to be if you make the alternative a more appeling option. In conclusion I feel that that the elderly show be watched with a closer eye when behind the wheel. By imposing simple age restrictions and yearly test we can prevent many possible fatal car accidents. But instead of just taking away......

...well; the trait approach has been able to provide a deeper understanding of how individual traits are related to the leadership process. Finally, the trait approach has provided benchmarks for what organizations need to look for in their search for leaders (Zaleznick, 1977). In spite of strengths, there are several weaknesses. For instance, searches for leaders can fixate on individuals who possess specific characteristics, which tend to discriminate against physical appearance—height, weight, age, and sex. The greatest weakness according to this writer is that focusing on traits has the potential to ignore developing followers who possess the greatest potential to lead, but just have not achieved the “status quo” yet. In addition, tests are subjective and tend to generate long lists of leadership candidates (Williams and Huber, 1986, pp. 466 – 467). “More than 100 different traits of successful leaders in various leadership positions have been identified (Zaleznick, 1977). Although there are significant weaknesses, this process works well in military applications. Battlefield administration and logistics must be expedient. Without effective leadership, water, food, and fuel can go missing from strategic points of necessity. For example, during the Persian Gulf War (2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991), infantry soldiers fought without interruption because squads—basic military operational units—strategically place leadership succession in place through trait review......

...show that though the absolute number of crashed, where drivers aged over 72 are involved, is not high, this category of drivers has a high rate of incidents per mile. Moreover, the threat of fatal outcome in this category is very high. This group of researchers emphasized the medical aspect of aging. Their investigation showed that adverse events for drivers of the age group are related to cognitive impairment, low physical activity (particularly, the amount of walking per day has been examined) and foot abnormalities (like left-knee flexion). Those results are particularly interesting, as they show how risk factors can hide not only in obvious age changes, but also in those less predictable. This study also shows that there is much to discover about the issue. Among other reasons, which are associated with increased risk of crashes among senior drivers are visual field loss, visual attention, dementia, stroke, Parkinson disease, cardiac disease and other age-related disorders (Marottoli et. all). Another research, conducted in Canada showed that drivers aged over 65 have a high risk of fatal motor vehicle traffic crashes. Among risk factors the following have been indicated: medical and physical conditions, inattention and little experience, wrong actions (such as wrong turning). Authors of the research argue that preventive age-specific strategies could improve the current situation and make driving safer for senior drivers, as well as for other participants of the traffic......
