Aims

Qualitative research needs to answer questions set by the researcher (there is no hypothesis). The intended aim(s) of the research should therefore be stated and the questions the research seeks to address should be identified. The problem which initiated the research should be clearly described early in the report (Ryan Wenger 1992). In order to evaluate the value of the research it is important for the hypothesis, aims and objectives to be clearly and unambiguously stated as too many questions may indicate that too much is being attempted (Parahoo and Reid 1988).

Research Design

“Designing and producing research is a complex activity” (Brockopp
& Hastings-Tolsma, 2003, p. 59). A well-thought-out design allows for assurance that the evidence has practicality.

Literature Review

A thorough literature review allows for credibility of the study. The literature review provides the foundation for the study’s significance and relationship to practice.
The literature review is generally summarised in the introductory section or under a specific heading such as a review of the literature (Polit and Hungler 1997).
Reference to original sources is important as information can be taken out of context and used inappropriately therefore an abundance of secondary sources should be viewed with caution as they may not provide sufficient detail or possibly distort some aspects of the original research (Polit and Hungler 1997; Burns and Grove 1993).
The purpose of the literature review is to discuss what is known, identify gaps in knowledge, establish the significance of the study and situate the study within the current body of knowledge (Polit and Hungler 1997). This is supported by Burns and Grove (2001), who consider the primary purpose of reviewing the literature is to gain a broad background or understanding of the available information…...

...ROPER-LOGAN-TIERNEY TUESDAY, JUNE 26, 2012 THEORY GROUP A PRESENTS One draw of the field of nursing is the ability for nurses to individualize their care plans for their patients. In order to ensure that unique patients are able to get healthy, they need nursing care plans as unique as they are. This means assessment and evaluation of each patient before and during care. Nancy Roper's desire to become a nurse started in childhood, and as a result of her experiences and education, she, along with two of her colleagues, developed the Roper-Logan-Tierney Model of Nursing to assess patients' level of independence and provide the best individualized care for them. COMPONENTS/CONCEPTS OF THE MODEL Living is a complex process which we undertake using a number of activities that ensure our survival. The current model seeks to define 'what living means, and categorizes these discoveries into Activities of Daily Living (ADL).  According to Roper, in a given circumstance, people are able to perform daily activities of living independently but when disease or hindrances occur, the nurse can use these activities of living to be able to assess the patient and identify interventions that can support independence in areas that may prove difficult or impossible for the individual on their own. The model assesses the individual's relative independence and potential for independence in ADLs,(considering their lifespan, development, and the five key factors on a continuum ranging......

Individual: Critiquing Philosophical Approaches to Ethical Decision Making

...Week 4 Individual Paper Angela Tai ACC 260 May 10, 2013 Douglas Kildsig Critiquing Philosophical Approaches to Ethical Decision Making Three philosophical approaches are taken when ethical decisions are being made. These approaches include consequentialism, deontology, and virtue ethics. Consequentialism focus on the consequences associated with the decision that was made. When an individual uses this approach, that individual should ensure that they are fully knowledgeable of the problem in order to make an ethical decision. It is crucial that the person has the ability to examine the affects both negative and positive that will occur because of the decision. When using the deontology approach, one focuses on if it was a right decision or not instead of focusing on the consequences. With this method, all of the questions about ethics and principles arise. The last method is called the virtue ethic approach. This method strives on keeping the morals and integrity of both the community and the individuals. By keeping the morals and integrity of a community when making decisions, it ensures that the decision will be made using the personality traits of the individual. These traits include honest, generosity, wisdom, intuition, and common sense. Is the course of action really the most ethical choice? Scenario One The mayor made the most ethical choice by refusing the proposal and scarifying the development of hundred jobs and million dollars to be able to......

Critiquing Child Advocacy Plans.

...Critiquing Child Advocacy Plans Child, Family, Community and Culture-ECH-325 July 3. 2013 Critiquing Child Advocacy Plans While talking to the local school district administrator of the elementary school and the director of the pre-k in the Arizona school system, I was informed that anyone that has reason to believe that a child is being harmed in any way, such as physically, mentally or affected by neglect or abuse must report these cases to the local law enforcement agency and to the Department of Protective Services. It is the responsibility of ever member of the school staff to report any suspected abuse to their superiors at the school district office. It doesn’t matter how small the problem may be to the staff member it is part of their responsibility to provide their students with a safe environment and protection. If the staff doesn’t report any suspected abuse they can be sent to jail or fined. If a student comes to any staff member and reports sexual abuse that has taken place, it is not considered hearsay, and it is considered admissible in court. This will only hold up in court if I am the first adult the child has told this story to. If a report is made in good faith, any member of the staff will have legal protection and their identity will be kept confidential. This means that I have taken actions without intending to hurt anyone. The district administrator and director has informed me that they have had experienced where they had to call CPS. They...

Critiquing the Literature

...Occupational Therapy: Political Engagement and Social Transformation Occupational Therapy: Political Engagement and Social Transformation An international occupational therapy movement that embraces political engagement and social transformation has been forming (Frank & Zemke, 2009). There has been a shift away from the medical model in the last 30 years (Frank et al, 2009). The political factors and societal factors that play a role in this shift strongly stem from the human rights movement (Andrews, 2013). Andrews (2013) categorizes the human rights movement in three categories: 1) proliferations of human rights, 2) growing human rights culture, and 3) human rights violations by nations and private sector. Andrews (2013) outlines defining historical events that contributed to the human rights movement as the aftermath of WWII, the end of the Cold War, the 1993 Vienna Declaration of Human Rights that defined woman’s rights, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and the recent global economic crisis. The world has developed a growing negative attitude towards those who discriminate against race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and disability. According to Lang (2001), the social transformation model arouse out of critique of the medical model that focuses on the individuals’ physiological and functional abilities. This is now a shift towards a focus on society’s ability to integrate individuals successfully. Incompatible......

Evaluating whether or not the reasoning for the course of action listed makes sense. While working on the evaluation of the philosophical approaches we will discuss if the course of action is the most ethical, the best reasons for making the choices, and the reasons for believing this alternative is ethical. Consequentialism is the intent to maximize the usefulness of a decision. For this the relevance of this act depends on its consequences. For this approach it is essential to have a good ethical decisions and perception of it. With this it is important for students to analyze a decision in how the harmful and/or the benefits. This many philosophers’ debate ht consequences should count Deontology is different because it focuses on the obligation or duty in motivating the decision or the actions of the consequences. Critiquing Gandhi

...After coming across various critiques of Gandhi and by Gandhi in the past few weeks, the mind wonders if I could unlearn what I have learnt till now. Should I change my perspective altogether or accept the existence of multiple perspectives or simply give into the simplicity of ignorance and indifference towards the so called father of the nation. I feel perplexed and drained by the amount of literature that has been written by Gandhi and even larger amounts that have been written as criticism to the former. Finally, I choose to interrogate my own learning and perspective from whatever history of the country I have been taught till now. One cannot close a speech on Gandhi without highlighting his efforts to abolish untouchability from the Hindu society. Living in a city, I do not come across this abhorring practice on a day to day basis. At the same time I am aware of its prevalence in the interiors of India even today. I am curious to know whether the efforts of Gandhi have actually affected the practice of untouchability and reduced it to an extent in modern India or it is a byproduct of globalization. On this discourse, I would refer to the differences in the approach of the other pioneer of Dalit rights and the drafter of our constitution, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. It is important to study and highlight the different approaches followed by Gandhi and Ambedkar and their motives behind them on the issue of caste system in India. After reading D.R. Nagraj’s essay – ‘Self-......

The department’s cost control report is given below: “I just can’t understand all the red ink,” Weston complained to the supervisor of another department. “When the boss called me in, I thought he was going to give me a pat on the back because I know for a fact that my department worked more efficiently last month than it has ever worked before, instead, he tore me apart. I thought for a minute that it might be over the supplies that were stolen out of our warehouse last month. But they only amounted to a couple of hundred dollars, and just look at this report. Everything is unfavorable.” Direct labor wages and supplies are variable costs; supervision and depreciation are fixed costs; and maintenance and utilities are mixed costs. Critiquing Analysis on Work Energy

...AB1601 Organizational Behavior Human energy management is lacking in many companies, despite how it affects the overall performance in employees. Energy seems to be constantly drained, before, during and after work. It is affected by one’s relational, mental, physical and spiritual welfare. To find a way to retain or increase energy levels in the workplace, the frequency and correlation of micro-breaks (non-work and work related) taken by a group of knowledge workers with vitality and fatigue was investigated. Firstly, the methodology in using subjective vitality was largely accurate in measuring the complicated term. The accuracy of the seven-item subjective vitality scale used has been proven in a validation paper by Bostic, McGartland and Hood (2000). Results showed high factor loadings (>0.60), indicative that scale was consistent and reliable. However, the relationship between vitality and fatigue was not explained. If vitality is the enthusiasm that an employee has, the lack of it is due to fatigue – indication that they are merely flip sides. Improvements to data collection can be to use observational research by monitoring employees through a camera or to obtain colleagues’ assessment. While there is high cost in doing so, representative data can be obtained, eliminating the problem of inaccurate self-evaluation. The paper’s focus on strategies and breaks targeted at the individual may not be effective in boosting energies. The individual’s work is...
