What Would You Do

...What Would You Do? Scenario 1- Della the Delinquent Cat Lady As the president of the board of directors of the cat shelter, I am faced with rather or not Ms. Della should remain as part of the staff at the cat shelter. There are several problems that have been brought to my attention and I feel that now is the time to figure out exactly what should be done regarding the matter. After, evaluating the situation and giving it a great deal of consideration, I have come up several solutions to the problem. One of the easier solutions would be to just let Della go. I have considered retraining Della as manager of the cat shelter, or having a sit down with Ms. Della and asking her how she thinks she is performing as manager. Also, I think that asking Ms. Della to step down as the manager and giving her a position that she can handle. Although, these may seem like the best solution to resolve the situation, I have to look at the pros and cons of any decision that I make. If I decide to let Della go, it might benefit the company in the sense that we can find someone that is really dedicated and committed to for fulfilling their position. On the hand, Della is already going through a tough time, and firing her will not only affect her, but affect her children as well whom she is trying to provide for. Retraining Della could really help her gain a better understanding as what is expected from her as a manger, and she could gain more knowledge that may help her excel as a......

What Would You Do

...Emma Finney November 9, 2012 Mrs. Likin English 095 Summary: Today we watched video clips from ABC’s show “What would you do?” one of situations in the video was a woman with OCD with a condition of germ phobia. She had dropped her groceries on the floor and could not purchase them for she felt they were “dirty”. The cashier was playing a roll of a not so very understanding person. He kept implying that they were not dirty and that the food was fine, one customer in line tried to explain to that OCD is Obsession Compulsive Disorder and that once something isn’t right they mentally cannot handle it. In the second situation there was a man in a liquor store with his son purchasing alcohol for a party that his son was going to have. You could tell that the son was very uncomfortable with the whole thing and that the father was pressuring him. A bunch of people disagreed with the actions the father was taking. In the final scenario a woman was breast feeding her child that was at the age of four in a coffee shop. One of the actors was playing the role as a disgusted costumer in the coffee shop and was making a big scene asking the woman to do that elsewhere. A lot of customer didn’t seem to have an issue with the woman breast feeding her child in the open public. Critique: All the scenarios had good points to them, if I was the person in line at the grocery store I would have done the same thing that the woman had done while she was in line. Some people have...

What Do You Understand by the Term ‘Counter-Urbanisation’, and What Kinds of Implications Can This Have for Rural Communities?

...Urbanisation is the term given to the process of people establishing themselves in locations as a large urban community, building the characteristics of bigger towns and cities for example the cities of; London, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. From this we can deduce that Counter-urbanisation is the process of people migrating away from the big crowded cities into less densely packed areas in the countryside or smaller settlements than the environments they came from. One of the main causes of counter - urbanisation is the perception of a better quality of life, they want to be able to live in a clean and quiet area without air and noise pollution, busy traffic, dirt and the crime of urban environments. Another attraction of moving to a rural environment is that employers have also started to move to rural areas, adding to the cause of counter- Between 1981 and 1996 rural areas gained more than 1 million jobs. The use of high speed internet connections has allowed people to work at home, even establishing their own internet businesses this has allowed them to move away from the towns and cities. One of the major effects of counter- urbanisation is that the majority of the services in the area are forced to close. This is because the majority of people moving into the areas commute to work every day so instead of using the small village shops for their goods they use the large supermarkets in the urban areas in which they work. Businesses in rural areas then have to......

What You Can Relate to

...Writing/21292 What can you relate to that Neil has experienced? I know how it feels to lose everything. I know how it feels to come from nothing struggling and fighting to get my dreams and have them taken away. I know how it feels to go through so many trials and tribulations and still be able to look at things the way he does in this matter. I have also because of everything I have gone through been able to come to the same conclusions he has. I firmly believe that everyone needs to take a step back all the time and take a look at things because he was right when he said that we all have that inner child in us. We all have that three year old in us. Most people don’t recognize that. Honestly I feel more people should take a look at that inner child and see what it sees. Life would be more rewarding. What impressed you? The fact that he was willing to share what he has gone through. Sharing his emotions. The fact that he was able to step back and come up with the steps and things he needed to do in order to make the changes in his life that was needed to be made. The fact that he was able to discuss the inner child concept. Not many people in this world really sit back and see that part of who they are or even the fact that part even exists in people let alone in themselves. The fact that he talks about how people basically go through trial and error to get to where they are today in life. Life is like a puzzle. If you keep working at it. Someday you will get to where......

...hospitals will not hire a nurse with just an associate degree, if they do then they give you a time frame in which to obtain a BSN. As I embark on this new journey I am looking forward to expanding my vocabulary and expressing myself in a better way. A higher degree opens doors for me in my profession and will definitely make me more marketable. My greatest fear was not being able to obtain my degree. I attempted to start my degree a few months ago. I paid for a credentials evaluation and transcripts and mailed in all of what was required. After waiting a few months I finally called the school and was told that my evaluation was not accepted. I was heart broken and frustrated, this required and additional three hundred plus dollars, so I threw in the towel. I gave up because it had become mentally exhausting. After receiving a phone call from GCU I decided that I would give it another try. It started to get frustrating again ,as I am a foreign student I then had to find someone to obtain a transcript for me and mail it off to the school. My sister came to my rescue, and here I am persuing my dreams. As I reflect on the days when I was in nursing school, during a final exam in pathophysiology I became very afraid. During the exam I started to have a panic attack. I forgo everything and started to become afraid in the exam. I completed the exam and immediately went to the teacher and explained to her what had happened. The teacher encouraged me by letting me know......

Love What You Do

...stuck, unhappy, and have no idea what to do about it, except move to another job. Mary Lyn Miller, veteran career consultant and founder of the Life and Career Clinic, says that when most people are unhappy about their work, their first thought is to get a different job. Instead, Miller suggests looking at the possibility of a different life. Through her book, "8 Myths of Making a Living," as well as workshops, seminars and personal coaching and consulting, she has helped thousand of dissatisfied workers re-assess life and work. Like the way of Zen, which includes understanding of oneself as one really is, Miller encourages job seekers and those dissatisfied with work or life to examine their beliefs about work and recognize that, "in many cases your beliefs are what brought you to where you are today." You may have been raised to think that women were best at nurturing and caring and, therefore, should be teachers and nurses. So that's what you did. Or, perhaps you were brought up to believe that you should do what your father did, so you have taken over the family business, or become a dentist "just like dad." If this sounds familiar, it's probably time to look at the new possibilities for your future. Miller developed a 7-step process to help potential job seekers assess their current situation and beliefs, identify their real passion, and start on a journey that allows them pursue their passion through work. Step 1: Willingness to do something......

Trade Is the Only Way a Country Can Develop. to What Extent Do You Agree with This Statement

...Trade is the only way a country can develop. To what extent do you agree with this statement? Trade involves the transfer of the ownership of goods or services from one person or entity to another in exchange for other goods or services or for money. Trade is seen by many as a way to promote economic and development, with the future aim of increasing the Human Development Index (HDI- composite statistic of life expectancy, education, and income, indices used to rank countries into four tiers of human development) and thus moving further along the development continuum. With expert leg-growth has been the main approach to development, trade may not be the only panacea for development. Other approaches to development such as aid and political avenues also have to be explored. However, the main process to development is industrialisation (manufactured goods create more income than raw materials/primary products) with this we see countries moving through the Clark Fisher model; moving from primary through to tertiary sectors. This increased revenue would promote wealth and improving living standards. In turn, this would make way for the 'trickling down' effect, the increased wealth means surplus money would be available for new industry to be established. Furthermore, this surplus of money may be reinvested into vital infrastructure and increasing the indices needed to value the HDI. Exploring and analysing approaches to development will form the basis of my......

What Do You Expect

...Courtney Gaylor GS1145 Charles Bozeman January 6, 2015 Most people have no clue as to what they're going to do with their lives and a lot of them do indeed turn out to be software engineers. Most software engineers do their jobs very poorly, many are average and a few are actually good, but everyone has a place in the industry. I am pursuing a degree at ITT Technical Institute in hopes of falling in the category of “actually good”. I feel that what I need to be successful is hands on learning. At ITT I plan to achieve a career, not just to float through life one “job” after another. A goal that I started to attain before leaving high school is developing the ability to see the value in maintaining a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances. When I include my goal in the curriculum, I have a better understanding on how positive words, positive character traits and positive thinking can impact life immediately now and in the future. Another goal of mine is to be happy. To be happy is the most important thing there is because you only have one life and if you go through it fighting, competing and struggling you have wasted your one life. Being a human on this planet is like winning the lotto and if people would act that way we could all help each other and try to make the time we have not be a waste. I think that's my ultimate goal... I don't know that it's everyone's, if it's THE ultimate goal or even if there is a THE ultimate goal. Also I was thinking that......

Global Warming and What You Can Do to Help

...We hear the term “greenhouse gas” a lot—but what is it? Humans add various gases to the earth’s atmosphere every day; these gases (known as “greenhouse gases”) consist primarily of carbon dioxide, ozone, chlorofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide, and methane, and tend to warm the earth. Trees help counter greenhouse gas production during photosynthesis, by taking in carbon dioxide as waste material and producing oxygen, which of course we all need to survive. Scientists predict that the daily addition of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, combined with daily removal of large portions of the world’s forests, will raise the earth’s average temperature by several degrees in the next century. This in turn will raise the level of the sea and potentially create significant changes in weather patterns on a global scale. As we move into the future, many climatologists expect that most of the United States will warm. What we do not know yet is how to scientifically predict which parts of the nation will become wetter or drier. We do know there is likely to be an overall trend toward increased precipitation and evaporation, and more intense weather systems, in the form of violent rainstorms, blizzards and sun-baked, drier soils. The Facts—What Do We Already Know About Changing Global Conditions (Global Warming)? Global temperatures are rising. Observations collected over the last century suggest that the average land surface temperature has risen 0.45-0.6°C (0.8-1.0°F) in the last...

What Makes Your Tired and What You Can Do About It

...ESSAY: What Makes You Tired-and What You Can Do About It Here is an astounding and significant fact: Mental work alone can't make you tired. Sounds absurd. But a few years ago, scientists tried to find out how long the human brain could labour without reaching "a diminished capacity for work", the scientific definition of fatigue. To the amazement of these scientists, they discovered that blood passing through the brain, when it is active, shows no fatigue at all! If you took blood from the veins of a day labourer while he was working, you would find it full of "fatigue toxins" and fatigue products. But if you took a drop of blood from the brain of an Albert Einstein, it would show no fatigue toxins whatever at the end of the day. So far as the brain is concerned, it can work "as well and as swiftly at the end of eight or even twelve hours of effort as at the beginning". The brain is utterly tireless. ... So what makes you tired? Psychiatrists declare that most of our fatigue derives from our mental and emotional attitudes. One of England's most distinguished psychiatrists, J.A. Hadfield, says in his book The Psychology of Power: "the greater part of the fatigue from which we suffer is of mental origin; in fact exhaustion of purely physical origin is rare." One of America's most distinguished psychiatrists, Dr. A.A. Brill, goes even further. He declares: "One hundred per cent of the fatigue of the sedentary worker in good health is due to psychological factors...

...hackers seek. Internet intruders can come from down the street or abroad. Protecting patient’s pertinent data is becoming more and more complicated. Patients enjoy the freedom of being able to access all their pertinent medical information from all over the world. Yet, they don’t realize that many eyes are constantly watching their every move. With the freedom comes the threat of identity theft. No matter how secure a system is someone is always ahead of the game finding ways to slip through the cracks. According to Alan Paller, “there are at least 100 countries actively doing cyber-espionage (M, 2010).” In the healthcare environment you have many people accessing and using the intranet system. The IT department has the job of monitoring and blocking excess from internet sites without security clearance or certificates out of date. Unknown to the IT department is that the staff can be trying to access these sites which are not allowed. This would put the healthcare organization at risk of scripts slipping in (M, 2010). these scripts are security breaches which are used to steal patient’s personal information. Anti-virus software programs are not looking for these scripts they are looking for files. These scripts can come from social media networks which staff may be accessing. According to Dave Meilek, “most of today’s threats are blended attacks propagated on legitimate sites like Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, and many others.” (M, 2010) Attacks can come through emails which......

If You Can Dream It, You Do It

...IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, YOU CAN DO IT...!! In childhood, we all have had many crazy dreams. But how many of us would really go behind those dreams and pursue them?? Time changes everything. And very few follow their dreams. It’s not that they forget their dreams, but the fear in them, pulls them back from pursuing their dreams. The courage they had in their childhood to do anything and everything is lost, the innocence is lost forever. They forget to think how much happiness it would bring into their life rather they are more concerned with what others would think if they follow their dreams. Even I have a dream, dream to be different. To stand out from the crowd, and to do things which no one ever had thought about. I always wanted to try those things which no one ever dared to do, because that helps me to know more and better of myself. I never followed anyone, because I never wanted to do the exact things what others did in their life. I wanted to be different, different from what others do and think. For me doing things differently, always means discovering myself, knowing more about myself, because what I always believe is, “if we want to do something different, we have to do that one thing which we feel we can’t do. Sometimes we may fail, but then we can proudly say, I’M DIFFERENT.” And for me the most daring thing is to be myself and to do exactly what I want to do at that point in time and not to be worried with what other people think or are doing. Yes I know......
