New Computers

...Minich & Sons Insurance Co. From the desk of Chris Minich Jr. Re: Purchase of new computers Three of the desktop computers that are currently being used by our clerical workers are getting to the point where they are slow, have reached internal storage capacity and are generally out of date. To continue to be competitive in the marketplace they will need to be replaced. These three computers all have internal hard disks with 50GB of storage capacity or less, have processors running at speeds of less than 2GHz, have less than 2GB of RAM, have CD drives, and n more than 2 USB ports. I want each to have at least 100GB of storage capacity, run at speeds of more than 2GHz, have at least 3GB of RAM, have at least one of the laptops with a DVD drive, and at least 3 USB ports each. I would also like our new computers to all have a Windows 7 operating system and to have some sort of built-in memory card reader. There have been several instances where it would have been helpful if these clerical workers were onsite with clients so I recommend replacing these three desktops with laptops. These three laptops will still be connected to our local network but done so wirelessly. I have done some research and here are my purchase recommendations: • Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System • 2.4GHz Intel i3 Dual-Core CPU • 6GB of RAM • 500GB Hard Drive • 8x DVDRW Drive • N 2230 WLAN • 3 USB 2.0 Ports • 8-in-1 Memory Card Reader 1 – Dell Inspiron 15R with 15.6” screen - $469.99......

Atlantic Computer Case Assignment

...Atlantic Computer: A Bundle of Pricing Options Case Assignment Benjamin Athens, Alayna Boyd, Amanda Ferguson, Jessica Harper, & Emily Wagman MKT370W 11:00 a.m. Introduction. Atlantic Computer, a large manufacturer of servers and other high-tech products, is currently feeling the pressure of developing a pricing strategy for their product offering the “Atlantic Bundle”.  Two markets exist in the server selling industry: traditional and basic.  Atlantic is already a market leader in the traditional market with its product Radia, a price premium product.  Atlantic is now looking to enter the basic market with its bundle offering.  The basic market is new and fast growing- an opportunity that Jason Jowers, product manager of the Atlantic Bundle, knows he cannot miss.  For the basic market, Atlantic has specifically developed a new server, Tronn.  While Tronn is expected to be a success for mass sales in the basic market, Atlantic believes the key to marketing Tronn will be in bundling the server with a new software tool.  PESA, Performance Enhancing Serving Accelerator, is proven to enhance Tronn’s server speed by four times.  Atlantic however faces a bit of a moral dilemma with bringing PESA to market.  Traditionally, Atlantic Computer has offered all software tools for free when sold in conjunction with their servers.  In this case, the value of PESA is too great for Atlantic to not charge for its capabilities.  The Atlantic Bundle will feature these two new......

Buying a Computer Today

...Buying a computer today is a very important thing. Computers are used by many people every day for a variety of reasons. Some use them for work and others for recreation such as gaming. As computers are becoming more widely used, the variety and quality of certain companies varies. Some companies are better than others and every model of computer is different. The important part is finding one to suit the buyer’s purpose. Without a doubt, buying a computer focuses on deciding what kind of computer to buy, doing research on the best, and finally actually buying the computer. To start off, decide on what the primary use of the computer is going to be. Throughout the years since the computers birth, its capabilities have grown exponentially. There is something for everything nowadays. Once that is decided and the purpose is determined the buyer needs to decide if a more portable one is more suitable. Laptops are more mobile, but they are typically more expensive. The hardware in desktops is usually better. This is the primary trade-off that one needs to decide on. Next, research is an important part to determine which computer to purchase. Something important to watch out for is biased sources of information. Typically the company’s website is good for finding the hardware specifics but not very accurate consumer reviews. A magazine can be a good source if it compares many different brands. A good tip is to look at as many sources, reviews and testimonies as possible. The......

Assignment 4 Computer Forensics Tools

...Assignment 4 Computer Forensic Tools Derek Jackson Computer Crime Investigation Professor: Dr. Jessica Chisholm 03/06/2016 When purchasing computer forensics tools and resources for a company, you always want to make sure you are doing the necessary research and determining which of these programs are the best options for the company. This is very important job in any company as you are in charge of not only protecting the company’s data with these tools, but also recovering any information that may have been lost or deleted. There are many programs that are available that can be used to recover deleted files. Two of the programs that you could use are the MiniTool Partition Recovery and PC Inspector File Recovery. The MiniTool Partition Recovery is a free program that has a wizard-based interface which makes it very easy and straightforward to use and understand. You can point the MiniTool Partition Recovery at the problem drive, specify the area to be searched, and it will scan for the missing partition. Then a report will generate that will let you know what the program has found, and you can then recover that partition in a few seconds typically. The only downfall is that you won’t get a bootable recovery disk, so if the partition is damaged then the MiniTool Recovery program won’t be able to recover the deleted partition. The PC Inspector File Recovery allows you to be able to recover a full set of missing files on both FAT and NTFS drives. They are......

Assignment 1: Computer Memory Hacking

...Assignment 1: Computer Memory Hacking Professor Carl Brown CIS 106 Technology continues to evolve exponentially. However these technological advancements continue to pose a threat to both individuals and information resources of companies and governments. There is therefore the need to protect one’s data and information due to the emerging threats and risks. Hacking is where third parties create a backdoor version of a hardware and software so as to manipulate or unlock hidden functionalities on a machine. Most of these hacks are open source and free soft wares. These hacks manipulate the firmware update option on many devices to run and install themselves. Many researchers have found out that breaking into a computer’s encrypted hard drive is very easy with the help of the right tools. A research by Princeton University revealed how low tech hackers access even the most well protected computers (Jordan Robertson 2008). This paper details how encryption was coveted for a long time as a vital shield against hackers, but can be manipulated by altering the operations of the memory chips. This paper outlines just how vulnerable the data we store on our computers and laptops is to possible hacking. Through freezing the Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) chip, which is the most frequently used memory chip in personal gadgets. Freezing DRAM makes it retain data for many hours way after the machine loses its power. This data includes the keys used to unlock encryptions. If......

Computer Networking Assignment 1

...Unit 1 Assignment Dan SItkowski 1. Cell phones uses both voice and data networks. It uses data to get information and to also be allowed to access the internet. It also uses voice when you make a call. 2. Land phones use both networks. It uses data for caller ID and to send the information to find out where the call will be going. It also uses voice to transmit back and forth so that you can have a convocation. 3. SMS/Text messaging uses data networks. It only uses data networks because you are sending a message to another person. And in that message you can have files attached to the message as well. 4. Fax machines uses a data network. It uses this network because you put a document or photo threw the machine and it takes the image of that and creates a file. It then takes that file and sends it to another location. Then that location opens and prints or views the file. 5. Pagers use only data networks. It only uses data networks because when you send a file containing only text and then send it to a pager. The pager then takes that file and opens it showing the text for that person to read. 6. VOIP (voice over IP) uses data networks. VOIP uses data networks only because It uses the internet to talk to people instead of the traditional voice network. This allows someone to bypass the phone company. It works by taking the conversation and converts it to a file that is sent to the other location where it is opened. The problem with this is that if......

Risks and Benefits of Buying a New Home

...Risk and Benefit of a New House The Federal Reserve is one government body that has an effect on the housing market. The Federal Reserve is in charge of monitoring the economy and has the ability to rise and lower interest rates on loans and mortgages to keep the economy balanced. When interest rates are high, the total purchase of a home is higher because more interest is being paid on the mortgage. Interest rates have to be considered because they are included in the mortgage payments which makes payments higher and raises the total investment in a home. Federal banks can affect mortgage rates and housing prices because they have the opportunity to also determine interest rates that will affect mortgage rates. Congress also has the authority to make policies such as the $8,000 tax break for buyers purchasing a home to help assist in the financial burden of a new home purchase. There are also other discounts for first time home buyers and assistance when you buy a home through HUD (Housing and Urban Development) or FHA (Federal Housing Administration.) With the economy the way it stands today, there is a good supply of homes at low prices to be purchased and interest rates are lower and it would be a good time to consider purchasing a home if your employment is stable enough to withstand the time frame for the economy to pull back into shape. A mortgage is a long term commitment and one has to take careful consideration of housing cost and interest rates and making sure......

Buying a New Car

...Buying a New Car XECO/212 Principles of Economics April 1, 2012 Buying a new car is fun and exciting but there are many factors in today’s market that are affecting those who want to purchase a new car. Not only are fuel prices incredibly high and expected to go higher based on tensions in the Middle East, employment is looking up but many are still without jobs or enough income to purchase a new vehicle. There are a few car makers that understand those looking for an economic vehicle that gets great gas mileage. Some of the factors that could cause possible changes in the supply and demand of a new car are again unemployment. This affects demand more than anything. If you do not have income to pay for a new vehicle the demand is down and probably the supply as well. High fuel prices are also affecting the supply and demand of new cars. The demand for fuel efficient vehicles is on the rise again. When gas prices increased a few years ago, people started trading in or selling their gas guzzling SUV’s. People still wanted to drive SUV’s but didn’t want to pay the price at the pump. This lead car manufacturers to develop fuel efficient SUV’s to counteract the effects of the high per gallon price of gasoline. Also the price of competitor’s vehicles for similar types of cars can affect the supply and demand of a particular vehicle. If I were looking to buy a new Buick Enclave knowing the average MPG for city is 17 and highway is 24 www.fueleconomy.gov , I......

Buying My New Car

...Buying My First Sports Car Joel Wood Communications 170 03/19/2012 Rhonda Herb Going fast has been something I have loved all my life. All thru out my child hood I dreamed of getting myself a brand-new sports car. Both the GM Corvette and the Dodge Viper are both absolutely awesome options for such a decision. Even with both being so great it still took me doing a lot of research of both my personal situations and the different options that each vehicle offers to allow me to narrow it down to one. They both offer such a precision vehicle that it literally took going into much greater detail with the vehicles just to make the final decision. With all that being said I will further this story by elaborating why the GM Corvette is an all-around better buy for one in a similar condition as myself. The biggest thing I took into consideration was the overall performance of the vehicles, especially since we are talking sports cars. The Dodge Viper comes with and engine that uses ten cylinders which equals massive performance but it is also a whole lot more maintenance and up keep. The GM Corvette only offers 8 cylinders in which is obviously two less but, even with only eight cylinders it still offers massive amounts of horse power. Obviously the added two cylinders of the Dodge Viper will offer more performance but with more performance also comes a lot more money spent. The added price variation just for a little......
