Organizations have thrived on competition for centuries. Healthy competition has evolved the world to what it is today, with organizations always wanting to do better than their competition. In the real estate world competition is cut-throat, not only among other real estate companies, but amongst the real estate agents themselves. Real estate agents do not make money unless a real estate deal is closed. Due to this simple fact, competition is fierce. As far as my teammate’s organizations, Loren works for an Insurance Agency. There is a high level of competition within this realm of business. There are many insurance agencies, besides the one the Loren is employed by, so if her company does not do a good job or give a good insurance quote, the client can go down the street to another insurance agency. The organization that Jean is employed by is a non-profit organization. The competition within this realm might not be as severe as in a for-profit organization. Her organization has already expanded globally which aids in the decrease in competition. The economy affects our way of life and the way organizations conduct business. If the economy is doing well than businesses typically spend more money by hiring additional employees, paying higher salaries, purchasing additional equipment, or training their employees. On the other hand, if the economy is going poorly, companies do not hire more employees or purchase any additional equipment. Whether the organization is based on real estate, insurance, or helping the disabled the economy affects all types of businesses. In real estate when the economy is in a lull, individuals do not want to purchase a new home, secondary home or business. When the economy is booming, individuals will have a tendency to spend more money. In the insurance world, with the economy doing well there will be more purchased policies for homes, cars, life, or health. With a downfall in the economy, customers will not be making additional purchases of material goods or insurance policies. With a non-profit organization business will also be down, because organizations will not be making as many donations. With a stable economy, non-profit organizations are able to achieve more sizeable donations and are able to help more people. No matter what type of business, the economy has a huge impact on how they forecast the future. Customer demand has a tremendous impact on whether an organization will be successful or not. Supply and demand is a basic concept companies have learned to use. If the general public demands a specific product, organizations provide it. This includes, but is not limited to real estate, insurance, and non-profit organizations. As the demand changes, so do the aspects of an organization to be able to supply the public with what they want. Real estate changes based on what season it is, for example in the summer time we advertise more waterfront cottages, where in the fall advertisement is aimed towards the hunter, and in the winter homes located near ski lodges are the focal point. Insurance is primarily the same, if a new term life insurance policy comes out, the business will advertise this new product over an already existing one. Non-profit organizations have a high customer demand. There are many people who look to these organizations for help, guidance, and advice.…...

...The Use of Police Force Police officers in today’s society are given a significant amount of discretion simply due to the nature of the job. These officers are often faced with many threatening situations forcing them to react quickly and properly. They have the power to infringe upon any citizen's rights to freedom and therefore they must use this power within the limits of the law. One major concern with the amount of discretion an officer has is their ability to decide when to or not to use lethal force while apprehending a subject. Manning (1997:295) argues that it is generally accepted that police should be allowed to use force when necessary. He also goes on to explain that there is an uncertainty amongst citizens as to what constitutes excessive force. The link between what is necessary and what is extreme is very marginal. The use of force is no doubt one widely debated aspect in policing; however, excessive force should also be used with great discretion.  If officers do not use force on every suspect they encounter, then they may be creating a negative environment for the community.
