If you consider affirmative action for its intentional purposes than Affirmative Action is very just, its purpose being to equalize the education and economic gap between minorities and whites. Although it is not a perfect method to achieving equality in this country, it is essential to accept it for why it’s been put into place and that it is all part of a process. Of course affirmative action is far from perfect and has a fair deal of problems, like promoting reverse discrimination while backing up negative stereotypes. I researched all of these aspects while pondering the question “is affirmative action still needed in today’s society?” In this paper I will be explaining what affirmative action is.The history behind affirmative action like how it all unfolded, who made it, and the history as to why it is in effect now. I will also list some pros and cons of affirmative action, how the United States could better affirmative action for the future and finally a conclusion, which is my opinion on the topic.

But what exactly is affirmative action? Born of the civil rights movement three decades ago, affirmative action calls for minorities and women to be given special consideration in employment and education acceptance decisions. Universities with affirmative action policies generally set goals to increase diversity. Affirmative action decisions are generally not supposed to be based on quotas, nor are they supposed to give any preference to unqualified candidates. And by no means is affirmative action supposed to harm anyone through "reverse discrimination."

The purpose was to create equal opportunity for the people who had been unjustly treated in the past. It was set out to correct this wrong, and make it right. But at the same time too often is Affirmative action is looked upon…...

...Describe the Major Issues in Fraudulent Orders Perpetrated Against Online Merchants. What Measures Should Be Implemented to Combat These Issues? 1. What types of e-payment systems should B2C merchants support? As there are still many consumers who are still quite cautious in regards to the perceived security concerns of n Online Payment systems , I think merchants should support various types of processes in order to facilitate the buying process for those who may not have or don’t want to use credit cards . E-Cheques,Virtual credit cards, Gift cards, and Paypal are very user friendly and easily accessible. I know that from my own experiences, I have made many purchases using Paypal and have never had a security issue or concern, If I had I think it may have limited my willingness to continue with online purchases and I’m sure other new Web purchasers would feel the same. For me, Paypal built that trust by being used by many, advertising as well as being now owned by Ebay, another well respected E-Auction presence on the web. 2. Describe the major issues in fraudulent orders perpetrated against online merchants. What measures should be implemented to combat these issues? One of the major issues facing online merchants is that should they accept the transaction, they are then responsible for the associated costs of the processing from the Credit card companies as well as the lost goods and shipping charges. Analyzing a Sociological Issue

...Modernization of indigenous culture is nothing uncommon and happens on a daily basis. Time is the only variation between subjects. Depending on many factors, a culture can be transformed over a long period of time or just overnight. The modernization of North America and Western Europe occurred during the 18th and 19th centuries and has since spread to many Eastern European and Asian countries (Macionis, 2011). Modernization is a combination of sorts, including industrialization and urbanization and is defined as the transformation of a society or culture from a rural and agrarian condition to a secular, urban, and industrial one (Macionis, 2011). Modernization is not necessarily modern in the general sense or a revolutionary view; it is simply the understanding that over time every society evolves into something greater. As time progresses, modernization allows that change to thrive and therefore, people of the society are able to enjoy a greater freedom and understanding of the world around them. These advances in culture and society have affected the world on a global scale. There are still vast amounts of different cultures and tribes throughout the world. The ones that have not yet abandoned their traditional values and ways of living are considered to be indigenous (Adamson, 1996). According to “Macionis” (2011), Indigenous cultures are defined as "having originated in and being produced, growing, living, or occurring naturally in a particular region or environment.”...

Analyzing Ethical Issues in Marketing

...Analyzing Ethical Issues in Marketing Kari Bertrand MKT/554 November 11, 2013 Sandra Payne Analyzing Ethical Issues in Marketing There are three areas of ethical concerns for marketing flavored cigarettes. The first concern is the marketing to younger consumers or minors, that are not legally able to purchase tobacco products, (Layton, 2010). The second is the ban on favored cigarettes other than menthol, but there is no ban in regard to flavored cigars or blunts. The third and final concern is the marketing company’s responsibility to their contractual obligations with The Exotic Smokes Company. These three concerns are essential to the success of the marketing strategy and plan. The Target Market There is a ban that prohibits the advertising and selling of tobacco products to minors. The Exotic Smokes Company wants to reach a demographic that is perilously close to the ban of advertising to minors. The marketing has to be specific targeting the college age consumer or young business professionals to avoid costly litigation. Ban on Flavored Cigarettes The marketing company must advise the Exotic Smokes Company as to the ban on flavored cigarettes. The marketing company must not advertise a banned tobacco product. With full knowledge that the product is in direct violation and continuing to market the product is unethical and will potentially open the marketing company up to litigation. The marketing company is ethically obligated to discuss the Exotic......

Analyzing a Major Issue Bullying

...A Analyzing a Major Issue: Bullying Starts at Home Week 8 Assignment 2 Submission Alexandria DeAngelo June 15, 2014 People argue that bullying starts in the home, but what if it’s bigger than that? Some cultures are known for their hierarchy of the family model. The man is at the head of the family; he and his sons are of the most importance, and the mother and children are secondary. This type of hierarchy often leads to bullying that begins in the home, and leaks out into the community, sometimes even an entire culture. What evidence the literature available to date demonstrates ethnic groups, or culturally identified customs that promote bullying behaviors in men? When someone thinks of bullying, a typical image that comes to mind is a school hallway, a bigger kid throwing a smaller kid into a locker, and some belittling phrases. However, bullying can occur in many different forms, and on different levels of severity. In some cultures, men are taught growing up that they are dominant over females. “Many have debated the definition of culture. Overall, most agree with the definition that culture is an acquired and transmitted pattern of shared meaning, feeling, and behavior that constitutes a distinctive human group” (Ayman & Korabik, 2010). As these young boys grow up, become husbands and fathers, these men begin to treat their wives poorly, often bullying them verbally, mentally, or even physically. This bullying can lead to violence. When young......

Major Issues Concernig Saarc Countries & Its Solutions

...• The biggest problem faced by any SAARC country is poverty. Poverty has a wide spectrum of causes which vary from country to country. Issues like Naxalism in India, Civil wars in Sri Lanka, Terrorism in Pakistan have a direct link to poverty. Illiteracy and ignorance have resulted in an unbridled rise in population in many under developed nations. This is one of the alarming problems faced by the world considering its impact on global food and commodity market. The impact is so severe that, India which once was an exporter of food grains became an importer. The literacy rate of a country is dependent on socio-economic status of the people. This problem can be viewed from the other side in a different way. Though the land under cultivation in India is more than that of China, Indian agriculture can't feed its own people, while the Chinese could feed themselves. 60% people in India rely on agriculture directly, but its contribution towards GDP is just around 20% to 30% .Lack of implementation of modern technology in the field of agriculture, fragmented land holdings, low irrigation potential, unviable returns etc can be shown as the causes here. Considering the GDP as the bench mark for development of a country, India registered a growth rate around 9% only after globalization in 1991. This clearly indicates that market based economy with minimum regulations encourage entrepreneurship. Survival of small scale and micro level industries is one of the key aspects in the......

Major Issues in Business Ethics

...Major Ethical Issues in Business An ethical issue is a problem or a situation that requires an individual, group or organization to choose among several actions that must be evaluated as right or wrong, ethical or unethical. The ethical issues in business are in most cases abusive or intimidating behavior. examples are like lying, conflicts of interest, bribery, discrimination and sexual harassment among others. They are each discussed briefly below. 1. Lying Lying can broadly be defined as lack of integrity, incomplete disclosure and unwillingness to tell the truth. There are three types of lying, one of which is joking without malice. The other two types can become very troublesome, for example commission lying and omission lying. The causes of lying are complex and relate to both individual and organizational pressures. Commission lying is when you create a perception or belief by words that intentionally deceive the receiver of the message. For example, lying about being at work, expense reports or carrying out assignments. It involves intentionally creating “noise” within communication that knowingly confuses or deceives the communicator. Lying by commission can also be of complex forms, procedures, contacts, words that are spelled the same but with different meanings or better still refuting the truth by telling a false statement. These forms are very common especially in commercial advertising, where for instance, saying that the product is homemade yet in real......

Even with security checks and balances, there is also the possibility of rejecting valid orders which of course results in additional lost revenue. Measures used to combat these issues are: Address Verification System (AVS) – Simply having the client type in their address. Should the address match the one on file, the process continues, if not the transaction is stalled. The risk with this is that there many not be anything wrong at all and the sale could be lost as it may be......

Major Issues

...From my Point of View.... I have a major problem, one of which I feel like has taken over my life. I have been torn in my way of thinking lately. I don't want to go, but I can't stay. Which leads me to this, since we don't talk I thought I would write you a letter. I feel like I have screaming for help from everyone and anyone. And of all of the important people in my life you are the only one that is not listening. So I don't know if you just haven't noticed or you don't care. Right now your life revolves around your games, I think that that is part of problem but that is for another letter. I want to escape, but I can't help feeling guilty if I do. One, the parent people will be pissed, the house will be lost and the kids will probably end up in foster care (tom's words) or with my parents. All of which I am ok with this until people start asking how long will that last. Do I want to be gone for a year, a month, or a week? Truth is I don't want to go, but I can not live like this anymore. I feel as though you have already checked out of this relationship. But for some reason just won't either admit it to yourself (and leave) or work to change it. If you really want this to work then you need to step it up, because I need you as much as you need me. And not just financially, we need each other emotionally, and mentally. I am just so tired of fighting with you, I'm tired of the house, the kids, the responsibility, the thinking, the cleaning, the dog, the......

...MAJOR ISSUES AND TRENDS IN OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT I. COMPUTER AIDED MANUFACTURING/COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN * It is the use of computer software to control machine tools and related machinery in the manufacturing of workpieces. * It also refers to the use of a computer to assist in all operations of a manufacturing plant, including planning, management, transportation and storage. * Its primary purpose is to create a faster production process and components and tooling with more precise dimensions and material consistency, which in some cases, uses only the required amount of raw material (thus minimizing waste), while simultaneously reducing energy consumption. * It is a subsequent computer-aided process after computer-aided design (CAD) and sometimes computer-aided engineering (CAE), as the model generated in CAD and verified in CAE can be input into CAM software, which then controls the machine tool CAD / Computer-Aided Design Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer programs to create two- or three-dimensional (2D or 3D) graphical representations of physical objects. CAD software may be specialized for specific applications. CAD is widely used for computer animation and special effects in movies, advertising, and other applications where the graphic design itself is the finished product. CAD is also used to design physical products in a wide range of industries, where the software performs calculations for determining an optimum shape...
