Senator Rubio, a possible contender in the 2016 Republican presidential race, gave the following answer: “I’m not a scientist, man. I can tell you what recorded history says, I can tell you what the Bible says, but I think that’s a dispute amongst theologians.”

He went on: “At the end of the day, I think there are multiple theories out there on how the universe was created, and I think this is a country where people should have the opportunity to teach them all. I think parents should be able to teach their kids what their faith says, what science says.

“Whether the earth was created in seven days, or seven actual eras, I’m not sure we’ll ever be able to answer that. It’s one of the great mysteries.”

It may have been a mystery back in the 17th century, when Archbishop James Ussher calculated from the age of the patriarchs and other sources that Earth was created on Oct. 22, 4004 B.C. Today’s best estimate for the age of Earth, based on the radiometric dating of meteorites, is 4.54 billion years. The real mystery is how a highly intelligent politician got himself into the position of suggesting that the two estimates are of equal value, or that theologians are still the best interpreters of the physical world.

Catholics and Jews have always emphasized their priests’ interpretations of the Bible, not the text itself; Protestants, starting with Martin Luther, insisted the Bible was the literal truth and the sole dependable source of divine knowledge, a belief the Puritans implanted firmly in American soil. Then, in the 19th century, German textual critics like Julius Wellhausen showed that the Bible was not the inerrant product of divine inspiration but had been cobbled together by many hands whose editing was all too evident.

At that point most Protestants decided to join Catholics in interpreting the Bible metaphorically and avoiding embarrassing…...

Earth

...The Bible says that this beautiful Earth on which we live was created by God for Adam and Eve to live in and those we are the descendants of Adam and Eve. For centuries many philosophers in the East and in the West including the Greek philosopher Aristotle believed that earth is the centre of this universe. It was left to Galileo, a prominent mathematician of Padua University to announce his discovery on January 17, 1610 that the Earth is a planet just like other planets revolving round the Sun, which is a star. It was also established that the sun due to its gravitational pull attracts all these planets which revolve round it. Apart from the Earth there are some other planets which go round the sun. These planets, however, vary in size and also in their distance from the sun. They have their own orbits, and the period of rotation also varies in each case. Some of these planets have satellites called moons, varying in number. Some do not have any satellites. Normally, if they do not have a counter pull, they should have been dragged into the sun by the gravitational pull. These gravitation pulls of the sun and the counter pulls of the planets are called centrifugal forces. The planets revolve round the sun in their own specific orbits. These planets could be arranged in an order based on their distance from the sun. The nearest to the sun is Mercury and the next is Venus. Third comes the Earth. Later in the same order come Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and......

The Creation

...THE CREATION by: James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) ND God stepped out on space, And He looked around and said, "I'm lonely -- I'll make me a world."   And far as the eye of God could see Darkness covered everything, Blacker than a hundred midnights Down in a cypress swamp.   Then God smiled, And the light broke, And the darkness rolled up on one side, And the light stood shining on the other, And God said, "That's good!"   Then God reached out and took the light in His hands, And God rolled the light around in His hands Until He made the sun; And He set that sun a-blazing in the heavens. And the light that was left from making the sun God gathered it up in a shining ball And flung it against the darkness, Spangling the night with the moon and stars. Then down between The darkness and the light He hurled the world; And God said, "That's good!"   Then God himself stepped down -- And the sun was on His right hand, And the moon was on His left; The stars were clustered about His head, And the earth was under His feet. And God walked, and where He trod His footsteps hollowed the valleys out And bulged the mountains up.   Then He stopped and looked and saw That the earth was hot and barren. So God stepped over to the edge of the world And He spat out the seven seas; He batted His eyes, and the lightnings flashed; He clapped His hands, and the thunders rolled; And the waters above the earth came down, The cooling waters came......

Original Creation of Earth

...Original Creation of the Earth (The Big Bang vs. Six-Day Creation) TANITKA C. SMITH PHSC210_A24_201240 Debora Ladner December 3, 2012 INTRODUCTION The Big-Bang Theory, accepted widely by atheists and many scientists, simply says this: between 10 and 20 billion years ago a “bang” or explosion occurred from a single point in nothingness and with the scattering of googles of atoms, the earth came into being. An eruption of sorts occurred, haphazardly distributing the smallest particles of matter that miraculously adjoined themselves to create living, breathing organisms and every other object on the earth. Every word of the Bible is true. Every day, creation scientists are finding more and more evidence to support the six days of creation. There is nothing wrong with science, but in the end it is the fallible word of man. YOUNG EARTH At its simplest, evolution is a hypothesis which claims that all life has descended with modification from a primitive single celled organism in the remote past. The development has been one of increasing complexity. Originally, the first cell evolved from a preexisting organic “soup” in a primeval ocean, which in turn developed from chance conglomerations of inorganic chemicals. Ultimately, these chemicals themselves were produced by the “Big Bang” origin of the actual universe. Against overwhelming evidence it is said that the Big Bang happened billions of years ago, and gives argument that the earth and the universe......

Comparative Essay: “Original Creation of the Earth (the Big Bang vs. Sis Day Creation)” Phsc 210

...Contents I. Introduction II. Old - Earth View III. Young - Earth View IV. Compare and Contrast V. Conclusion Introduction Christians today have a biblical principle and opinion of the universe existence. Christians believe that God created earth and that he accomplished that in only six days. Genesis 1 explains the creation and the interpretation is so utterly clear and one writer states “Thus, any interpretation that goes beyond a clear plain meaning of the text is considered to compromise Biblical authority and capitulate to evolutionary theories”. One look at the Young Earth View is said to be formed from the Modern English Bible. Jon W Greene also writes that “Two Christian apologists state this problem well: “When the ‘young earth’ creationist insists that the biblical evidence indicates an earth only six to ten thousand years old, all communication bridges to the secular science community break down. The communication gap widens and such reactionary creationist views are labeled as ‘folk science.’ The scriptures and the gospel are consequently dismissed as meaningless.” And, “Many non-Christians are driven away from the God of the Bible by the young-earth claims which are, frankly, ridiculous to most people who love science. It is a shame that people who love science, who would like to know the One who created the universe, reject, out of hand the Christian God, because they see Christianity as so unscientific. The Creation

...heavens and the earth.” which indicates that God is the source of the entire natural world. From this creation, we have day and night, land and water, heaven and earth. All the stars, moons, and planets are His design. Everything we see today is a result of that creation. All these things He created for His own pleasure. God desired to populate the earth. He did this with animals and humans. This means God also created man (and woman). All was flawless in the world. There was no death, no sin. Adam and Eve had a perfect relationship with each other, and with God. He had created them in His own image. He walked and talked with them frequently. He gave Adam complete control of everything in the garden, allowing them to eat “of every tree of the garden” (Gen.2:16, NKJV) except for “the tree of knowledge and evil” (Gen. 2:17, NKJV). As long as Adam followed this one rule, he and eve were welcome in the garden. This all changed when Eve allowed herself to be tempted by Satan while Adam stood idly by. At this point, all perfection came to an end. Death, both physical and spiritual, had entered the world. Adam and Eve had disobeyed God’s one commandment. They were thrown out of Eden, and separated from God. This one act has had massive impact on the entire population of the world ever since. The next generation, and all generations that followed, wasn’t immune from sin. The story of Cain and Abel (Gen. 5, NKJV) is one of jealousy and murder. God’s once perfect creation continued to......

Politician

...The politician, in any country is a class apart from all others but, the Indian politician is a class apart even from the politicians of the world. It would be very interesting to study why this class is a class by itself. In most cases, the reason is not far or difficult to seek. The reason is simple and straight. He is the person who at one time was on some lower strata of the hierarchy of the social set up and, once he becomes a politician, he has a magical rise to the highest rung of the same hierarchy - as, now it is he who rules the country. So, this individual who was once a part of the general public having attained the top slot in society is bound to develop a sort of a web around himself. Through this web people may be able to see him but they will not be able to touch him. This web is created by him and, is added to by his cronies who wish to take advantage of him and his position. This situation of a politician being someone high and mighty exists everywhere in the world but the position in India achieves a higher rank than politicians of the world because he is also there to wind up the work for the people and start looking after his own interests as, he may lose the position any time and any day. The special characteristic of the Indian politician is that, though he is on the highest rung of the social order but, unlike other politicians of the world, he is also on the lowest rung of discipline and character. It is this feature of the Indian......

Politics and Politicians

...either to you or to myself." Since then, however, politics has pervaded every sphere of life, and the number of politicians has grown beyond measure. There is politics everywhere, in government generally, in the administration, in schools, colleges, universities, art, literature, and even in sports and games. In fact, there is hardly any sphere of life and activity, male of female, which is free from politics and the insidious influences of the fast-growing tribe of politicians of various hues and types sincere ones (their number is indeed small), insincere ones and downright hypocrites (their tribe is fast growing), and others who fall mid-way and share the traits of both the good and the bad. Of course, it would be unfair to paint them all with the same brush. The lament of Aristotle and Plato has become pointless in modern society, despite the advance of civilisation and the remarkable progress of education and general enlightenment. Politics and politicians have not only grown amazingly, but have also prospered without let or hindrance. This may indeed be described as the age of politics; politicians are supreme everywhere. The gates of politics are wide open; anyone (preferably people with some means and a mastery of rhetoric but there is no bar on others who can, and do, acquire wealth as the years pass) can join the vast society of politicians, learn their devious ways, especially their oratory, deceitful tactics and hypocrisy and thus become......

Protecting God’s Creation

...Protecting God’s Creation Liberty University Interdisciplinary Studies APA Introduction “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1, NIV). The first verse of the Bible clearly states the earth and all of its inhabitants are God’s creation; therefore we are merely tenants of what is rightfully His. God has created mankind above all else and entrusted us with ruling over the land, seas, and skies, while caring for all living things. To understand our roles, we must understand the inherent responsibility of a ruler and a tenant. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary (2014) defines a Ruler as someone responsible for commanding a certain area, group, or people; and a Tenant as “one who has the occupation or temporary possession of lands or tenements of another.” Not unlike a landlord as we know them today, if we fail to care for the property and lives God has entrusted us to keep, we will likely face permeant eviction. As Christians we should pride ourselves in caring for God’s creation, using each and every resource wisely, and not to meaninglessly waste, kill, poison, and destroy. Over the course of our existence, we have prospered from every intricate detail God has bestowed, and often times we have abused His generosity and trust; vulgarly displayed by Adam and Eve. In the book of Genesis (2:15, NIV) it states “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” God’s intent has remained the same......

Creation

...Jerri Shirley Turabian Theo 201 B14 Creation “Is God actively involved?” “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” (Gen 1:1-2) God has been involved with creation since inception and He continues His involvement today in each and every one of us, whether we recognize Him or not. Without God humans, plants, animals and the things that crawl upon the earth would not exist. The cosmos would not exist. The sun, moon and the stars would not exist. Nothing would exist if God did not have His hand directly in it, through it, and actively taking part in it. God is all knowing –Omniscient- meaning he “has full knowledge of events before they happen.” (Towns, pg. 141) God alone created all life simply by speaking what He wanted into existence. “And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place and let dry ground appear.” (Gen 1:9). This belief is the root of every Christian’s doctrine and serves as the glue that holds us together. In truth it is the foundation by which we build our families, the manner in which we conduct ourselves while at work ,and how we interact with others, Christian and non-Christian. “In the beginning,” God carefully calculated and worked out every intricate detail of creation before speaking everything we see today into existence. God cared so much for all living......

Comparative Essay Original Creation of the Earth

...Elements of Earth Science Comparative Essay Original Creation of the Earth Rhonda L. Carter 9 March 2014 PHSC 210-B13 LOU | | Introduction It should be easy to say that the Earth was created by a higher power. For a Christian this higher power is God. The Bible gives us the six day creation of the heavens and the Earth and all that dwell upon it. For anyone else, the higher power is some unknown power that science is still trying to figure out. There are a lot of theories in science about how the Earth was created. One of these theories is the big bang theory. The essay will compare the two theories and show how different they are. Old Earth View In the old Earth view of the original creation of Earth we are told about the big bang theory. In order to explain this theory one must understand what science says that it is. “According to the big bang theory, the universe began by expanding from an infinitesimal volume with extremely high density and temperature. The universe was initially significantly smaller than even a pore on your skin. With the big bang, the fabric of space itself began expanding like the surface of an inflating balloon – matter simply rode along the stretching space like dust on a balloon’s surface.” (Takahashi, 2000) When dealing with science, one can see that scientists do not believe in a divine power such as God. They deal with their theories and will tell you that they believe something was created, but not that it was created by God.......

Young Earth vs Old Earth

...Young Earth –vs- Old Earth Here is my take on the young earth- vs- old earth debate. I am extremely confident that the Universe and everything that lives on the Earth was created by God. This miraculous process took place as stated in Genesis chapter one. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Holy Bible). The oppositions to old earth is young earth. For me, it is just like the life of a Christian. If you live for God then you oppose the way of the devil. Old earth perspective can be added up to two main issues. Issue number one is the meaning of the word Yom. Young-earth followers will say with no hesitation, that Yom equals a 24-hour day in the creation account. “God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” “And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day” (Holy Bible). Old earth counter this argument because the definition in the Hebrew, “gives Yom more than one meaning”. “It can be 24 hour period, or an unspecified longer period of time” (Along with other meanings). The second issue, says that life on earth developed “over a process of time” (Morris, 1994). My perspective has not nor will it ever change. As I always say, “if you can explain your God, then He is too little”. This definitely takes faith to believe the creation and the account of the flood. Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding“(Holy Bible). Let us take the big bang theory. “This theory...

...advantages. The major coast of corruption is increasing poverty and social and economic disparity because some officials take the control of the country resources and exploit public instead of distributing on society and creating job opportunity to their people. Because of corruption, Child mortality and hunger endangered the life of millions. In Angola, 1 out of 5 children die before they reach their fifth birthday and more than half of population lives with $1.5 a day. Hence, corruptions create social class and widen the gap between wealthy and poor and it causes further problem. For instance, the corrupted people send their sons and daughters to the world best universities, and other cannot even support their children to complete primary education. So, not only in terms of finance, but corruption creates disparity in education and other aspects of life. Moreover, corruption distorted the economic growth in developing countries and decelerates the paces of reconstruction and rebuilding. It’s the main obstacle of investment and discourages business. Resource curse is another cost of corruption. Most of the developing countries have massive oil reserve and other natural resources, but that oil created more problem and conflict rather than bringing prosperity for people. For instance, in Angola and Nigeria, oil is the main source for conflict, plus corrupted politicians monopolized oil industry and misappropriate public funds which created bourgeoisie and widespread......

Cosmic Creation

... Cosmic Creation Myths Across Culture Kaydiann A. Davis Hum/105 October 15, 2015 Leif Olson Cosmic Creation Myths Across Culture Creation and cosmic myths have been active across different cultures for many years, and from the beginning of time; they were created to help humankind comprehend and explain the dimensions and connections to the sky, earth, or underworld. All three worlds are considered imperative to the sustenance and maintenance of human existence within the universe. Although there are many myths existing in today's world; the Vishnu myth from the Hindu creation, and the Egyptian myth of Osiris, Isis, and Horus which created hope for Egyptians assuring them, that if they live well with one another on earth they will live a life of peace and tranquility after death. To understand these myths we have first to identify the worlds and the element embedded in those worlds, define the creators, describe what they created, and the process of creation. Then compare these components, and analyze the role of cosmic occurrence, and the elements presented in both myths. Finally assessing the importance of creation and cosmic myths, and the core values they represent in our existence today. The Vishnu creation myth is represented by earth and sky worlds, with Vishnu having a direct correlation to the sun, which represents the sky world. Then there is the earth world that is represented by Rudha, the destructive side of Vishnu that erects storms and create floods......

The Creation

... Fleur The Creation The creation of the world has been told in many ways and through the cultures has significant differences. The concept of creation that I’m most familiar with come from the bible, Genesis: Chapter 1-3. However during my recent studies on creation myths, I’ve learned many others. A common theory of the earth started is reflected in the bible and occurred within six days. Creation myths are beliefs and stories on the earliest beginnings of the world. Oral traditions throughout the different cultures are regarded as truth for the “creation” and served as the historical reference we know today. Common element s of creation myths begin with a birth, a supreme being, human and animals and instructions from the creator. Almost all cultures have at least if not all these elements in the creation myths but vary to some degree. Every revolving culture has developed creation myths centered on historical interpretation, factual events and cultural influence however the African Bushmen and the Egyptian’s are similar on morals however different in the creation. All creation myths consist of a supreme being of some kind or form. The being is not always represent but is importance is just as equal. The Greek and the Japanese show gods and goddesses, whereas the Aborigines had to supreme beings: Father of All Spirits and the Sun Mother.(Murtagh). The Japense also has two gods Izanagi and Izanami which served as the creators of earths and the offspring......

...universe. It tells us how the earth came to be and how God has a person and plan for everything in the world he created. However, the bible is much more than a history book. It is a written inspiration of God. Since God is the one that created the Earth, then he is the only one that knows how old the earth really is, therefore, instead of listening to human( evolutionist) who is imperfect and makes many mistakes, I put my faith in God and his word and take the creationist view. Although its been said that the bible isn’t a science book, it is a good thing because all the science books that I have read are based on human knowledge and ideas. These ideas have been changed over and over again because people discover new evidence and realize that they have been wrong before. That is why a new science or history book has to be written again. For example, in old history books and in the days of Columbus people thought the world was flat and people where afraid of falling off the earth. It wasn’t until an explorer traveled around the world to prove it was round. (Siegel, 2011) However, if they would have turned to the bible, Isaiah 40:22 states “circle of the Earth” proving that the Earth was round. It could have saved a whole lot of time and money. Looking at the bible, it never changes or has been proven wrong. It doesn’t need to because God created it and wrote it and he is right the first time. Evolutionists believe that the earth is billions of years old......
